Personally, I think all the start of their ranges are from around our pick 26.

Someone like Mraz could really slide because of his injury (navicular foot injury) but he's 199cm athletic beast with good skills. Could be around where Dennis goes.

O'Farrell had his injuries but just a high quality footballer and think he'll go in the 30s.

Barrat likely go earliest, 20 to 35.

So with that in mind, at our pick 26 I'm going to use the old take best available at 26 as I think there will still be some real talent on the board at that pick. Hynes, Moraes, Gross, Oliver I'd have top 20 in other draft years.

Then use some future picks on one of the above if they go past 35. Mraz I'd hold off on until past 42, just worry about his injury but a pick past there is definitely worth the risk.

I had thought he was a likely miss, until one of his efforts earlier in the season.
I reckon there's an outside chance he pulls off a Jake Waterman-esque surprising resurgence. Just a gut feel after watching him train and in games.

I'm glad we traded to get Kelly then missed out on Warner

I hope we trade out of next year's draft to get Warner instead of going hard at the draft and developing our own players

I would rather pay overs for players that want a cushy contract

I very much hope he is retired/delisted before the draft. If that’s the case we’ll have six main list spots and one rookie spot. I hope we can generate two more national draft picks in the 2R, one with Essendon and one with Richmond. Maric may be moved to the main list to make it 5 and 2 spots respectively.

Hutchingtonson is the one I'm most excited about as well. In his first game you could see he was gassed and his disposal was lesser because of it and he was just one step off the pace but you could see he was making almost good position a tonne of the time and putting all his effort he had into every contest.

That performance with no AFL pre-season was super impressive and he only got better. With a proper pre-season or two I think we're going to have a serious player if we can retain him.

The draft board is put together and an overall rankings as well as later draft pick plans for types of players are put together. The whole recruiting team has input and the list manager has no say.

I'll purely be there to look at things from a data analysis perspective in regards to live trades and the cost of potential buy in if a player that is highly rated by the club slides or if the club is in a position whereby they are happy with any of 3-4 players at a pick they have and another team wants to climb.

In the event that a top prospect slides down the 1st round to our pick 12, what sort of deal would WC look at to trade that pick yet stay in the current draft. Sydney's pick 19 & 44?

If TT and Lindsay are gone by our 1st pick, I would be okay sliding back to add another pick in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Thoughts?

Let's consider a glass half full approach:

1. We take 4 picks in 2024 and bring in 2x DFAs (e.g. Carroll and DGB)
2. We medically retire L.Edwards

That would leave us with 27 players on the list aged 23 and under - plenty of young players to get games and development into. Looking at these numbers makes me feel a little better about bringing in Graham, Baker and Owies.

Given how obsessed the clubs are with the depth of this draft, I see a lot of potential live trades happening on draft night. I think WC would be well placed to slide their first 2 picks back a few spots if there's an opportunity to bring in additional future picks. The Clay Hall example comes to mind with Richmond getting a F3 to move back a couple of spots.

The 2025 draft is predicted to be the most compromised by NGA/FS in recent memory. The corresponding value changes of draft picks is going to make 2nd and 3rd round picks even more valuable to clubs looking to match bids of their NGA talent.

Sydney may get excited seeing our range of picks, and we can be as easily excited by the thought of A.Sheldrick and the Warner Bros. all being OOC and wanting to come to WC.

Also nicely placed to land Starcevich as a FA next year - another big bodied Def/Mid
