There has been several attacks on draft watchers here by some over the northern academies

Considering they all started around the same time I’m suspicious.

Definitely an agenda.

from what i can understand, the northern academy fans believe that players from NSW/QLD are not drafted because they have less coverage and hype, they also believe that playing a few nableague games and having results against those teams legitimises their claims, the problem they had this year was the week they played nableague teams was the same week that half or more than half of the players in each nableague team left for school football or trials and so they beat very under represented nableague sides + some losses to very weakened nableague teams btw, inflating their belief that they have high quality players and that they are being ignored? ect and they wanted people like me and others to cover these games and give feedback positive or negative, but when no-one did or judged their players the way they did, a good example is Sydney and Brisbane where few rated their academies talent unlike other areas that have a talent or 2 that people liked, Tas - O'Neill, GWS - Green/Delahunty, GCS - Budarick, NT - not many people from that area, i can guarantee if people were raving about Josh Rayner we wouldnt even hear from some of these guys, the reason some Brisbane academy fans are ok is Will Martyn is liked by a few.

they cant take the harsh reality of people watching games, watching all their young talent and coming to the conclusion MAYBE none of them are good enough for AFL, they cant seem to wrap their mind around the idea that maybe their team is coached very well or has good but average players and they have decent depth of non AFL players, because they win a few games they MUST have the next Isaac Heeney or Callum Mills, they just cant wrap their small minds around that possibility.

look i like a few players from the academy series ect, but a lot of them are in that category of late/rookie or wont be drafted, it comes down to the clubs and the work their recruiters do on whether they like the kid or not and they will have more info on them and interviews and test results ect to make a more informed decision.

Glad that's what you have drawn out of this.
Seems like you understand all that has been addressed.

Dont think that dude deserves as much leeway as you've given him Lore to be honest.

People are on here giving up there time and energy to guys who either cbf or dont have the time themselves. No one is pretending to be a recruiter, they are clearly giving their observations and opinion on what they see. Sometimes from limited vision

If you dont agree,
a) Make your own thread
b) Dont be a complete asshat with condescending language when someone is providing a completely free service that benefits a broader community.

Asshats like that dude are the quickest way we lose access to the generous people who spend so much of their time on these boards so we dont have to
Fair enough comment, appreciate the feedback. I prefer not to hand out cards and bans without giving people a chance first, and haven't got a lot of background information or context to go on with this particular issue.

Thanks to those who reported as well, this helps to bring it to our attention so we can deal with it more quickly. :)

I completely understand your standpoint and it has merit, I just think there should maybe be some kind of rule change for these draft watcher threads where being respectful on their personnel board should be a thing. Its just so rude to come on here and attack guys because you dont like their opinion and no one is forcing you here when they commit so much time and have a lot of patience with peoples questions.

I think from his additional posts, he clearly hasnt taken your initial post to heart either...

Sorry for highjacking your thread Davo-27 but as someone said above, there seems to be more of these people coming on these threads of late and talking down these very valuable members of bigfooty and I dont want to see a situation where we lose people like yourself

its fine, when i answered him i expected some hostility, but i wanted to put my view of Sydney Academy players out there.

While I agree with most of what you’re saying, I’m not comfortable with you sort of lumping the Brisbane and Sydney fans all together.

As far as I’m aware, it’s been one Brisbane and two Sydney posters, but the Brisbane posters comments aren’t in the same vein as the two Sydney posters.

I’ve wanted to comment on this discussion, but haven’t had the time.

At the end of the day it’s the clubs that decide on the talent they want to see and draft.

Clubs aren’t going to skip on talent just because they’re from a northern academy.

I for one don’t believe our academies are as strong as the NAB league sides. Our northern teams might have a couple of genuine draftable kids, but after that, the talent falls away and our teams, certainly not Brisbane’s, don’t have the depth of the Vic teams.

Maybe Sydney have an academy side that is well structured, well coached and as team performs better than the sum of its parts.

But the people who put together the Allies squad and eventual team, aren’t trying to put together a team to win the U18 championships. They’re putting together a team with kids who might have AFL traits, and might get drafted.

Watching the academy series last year, Brisbane’s Connor McFadyen didn’t stand out or appear to be a draftable talent. But he obviously showed an AFL trait or skill, and when he got to the U18 Championships he was moved to the midfield and his performances made people take notice.

If you’re a parent here and your boy hasn’t made the Allies squad, tell him to head to the NEAFL or sign up as an U19 academy kid and show the clubs they were wrong in overlooking your boy.

Keiden Coleman was overlooked last year, but his performances as an U19 academy kid in our NEAFL team this year should see him drafted.

At the end of the day, all the kids who were in the Allies academy get automatic selection to the Allies squad, it’s up to the other kids to perform well enough to force the selectors to include them in the final Allies team.

I think you’re jumping to some far fetched conclusion if you honestly believe there’s an agenda.

My opinion is that it’s more likely a couple of parents (and it’s only 3 posters from what I can tell), where one has made a comment, and the other two have jumped in with similar comments.

I believe some of their points have merit, but at the same time, they have little understanding of how some of the draft watchers “work” and put together their lists.

And there’s some anger towards the Allies set up and NAB league involvement and they appear to be taking that anger out on the wrong people here.

Finally I’ll add, there’s a lot of Northern fans who still feel it’s very much a VFL competition and we get screwed over or ignored, and there aren’t the same rules in play for every team.

This often comes through in some people’s posts.

that perception is wrong and if you feel that way you're wrong, face reality, im not gonna sugar coat it, FACE REALITY... grow up

neither of my nephews got drafted from the Western Jets, you dont see me yelling at draft watchers a few years ago.

And it continues - Get it through your head that these draft watchers watch far more under age footy than most of us who read and contribute to these threads - They know far more than some who may have an intimate knowledge of a small cohort of players - To be frank, the draft watchers assessment of players has no relationship to Academies - To think otherwise is delusional thinking.

On this board, having your knowledge and viewing habits questioned means you’ve made it. Almost a rite of passage. So congratulations to Davo-27

I don’t think anyone who posts here claims to be an expert. Everyone just knows a little about a lot. And any views or info are better than nothing. If anyone feels they’re better placed to comment, then please start a thread on your area of expertise.

But that’s enough derailing of Davo’s thread.

If you're referring to my discussion with Davo-27, then you've misread my posts. If you're not referring to my posts, then carry on.

I've been pretty active on the draft board for three and half years, and have a pretty good grasp of all the main draft watchers and how things work here on the BF draft board.

very skillful, talented player, can play midfield and forw, good size, not great speed but good agility and moves with purpose, i need to see more of him at the Championships, but he is a talent from what i have seen of him.

Top 50 and no Will Martyn or Keiden Coleman. What are your thoughts on both players.

Purely from a draft cost perspective, Brisbane fans would be happy if they were both bid on outside the first two rounds. We've got two third round picks, if we keep them through trade period.

my view on Will Martyn is that he has good physical attributes, gets a lot of poss, but i feel like his poss isnt as good as it could be and reminds me of Keays from a few years ago, good player without anything to put him apart from his peers, Keiden Coleman is an x-factor forw who can kick a lovely goal, but i've found he goes missing for large periods and usually needs to be fed the ball instead of winning his own poss or winning 1 on 1's, both have a chance to be drafted though, thats my view of them, do you think that Brisbane will take them in the draft?

Coleman has been playing between half forward and half back so far this season. I’m not sure what NEAFL games you’ve watched this year, but Coleman has been finding and winning his own ball when it’s there.

I know he has impressed everyone this year. We have some pretty rusted on supporters who go to each NEAFL game, and commentary on the Lions board is that he’s probably impressed more than any of our 2018 draftees.

I’m not even going to pretend I know what our club will come the end of the season, trade and draft period.

We have a serious list squeeze coming at the end of the season. There’s a number of rookie players that need to be upgraded or delisted, as well as some proper depth players who are out of contract at the end of the year.

At this stage I don’t see how we take the 5 picks we currently have in the first three rounds to the draft.

It’s also worth noting he’s the only U19 academy player who has played every NEAFL game, and wasn’t sent to play in the academy series or NAB league.

ive got a different view than many, i like Wischnat, Reville and Coleman for various reasons, yet others like Martyn and Griffiths i hear, so i kindve agree that Coleman would be the better choice as he does have x-factor and the ability to kick accurately that can get you far at AFL level if you have a good year.
