Right across the industry Im surprised at the lack of love for Zak Johnson. Admittedly he had a quieter championships playing across HB, but his Coates League games and stats have been as good as most of the top 20. He is reasonably quick, good over head and uses the ball well I cant see why he hasnt featured in any top 30?

nearly caught up on the u18 championships, i will do a top 75 by tomorrow? as theres a lot of depth, a new number 1 which might surprise a few, im a bit disappointed at the top group of players this year so far, seems theres 0 elite talents, so pick 1 isnt as valuable as it has been in recent years, in fact a lot of the projected top 10 have cruised during this years champs and have not taken the competition by storm which is disappointing.

I do wonder if it’s because there were so many decent mids going through and it has meant there’s no standout (rather than lack of talent at the top end). We won’t know until they are tried at the top level but Jagga at Richmond was promising and gives something of a benchmark of whether they (top group) will perform.

I agree totally.

The National Championship games are as close as these kids are going to get to playing AFL footy (physicallity/speed). Some players attributes shine under the added pressure and some dont. Smillie was the obvious No #1 leading into the champs, but he played so badly and wasnt up to the speed of the games it really has taken the shine off him. He has gone back to the Coates League and is starting to get to the form he was in earlier, but his limited games at the next level raises a lot of questions.

Some under done players like O'Sullivan & Lalor did themselves a disservice by playing at all, but the interested clubs will know their situations.

Its bizarre. Reminds me of Rory Sloane in his draft year where he slipped and slipped. High quality player and ended up as an AFL star. I think Johnson is a future star. Rate him in the top 25.

I look at it as

Elite - 0
Top Tier - approx 35
AFL Potential - approx 30+

It's the first time since i started in 2018 that there's no elite talent at the very top. Yet there's depth, it's a strange year.

I don't get how FOS could be that underdone given he had a hand injury. No reason at all why he couldn't have gotten good km's into his legs & entered the champs feeling fresh

But every year there are elite talents that surprise I think Smith Lalor and Travaglia plus some of the KP like Faull and Gerryn could be elite. Even if no elite players come from it, flags aren’t won with 22 elite players. I'm very excited about this draft hoping we have a few top 30 picks.

If this also includes a 2025 update, looking forward to it.

2026 and 2027 can wait a few weeks.

It’s a good question and one I’ve had in the back of my mind for a few weeks now.
He still has time though to show us what he’s potentially got.

AFL Clubs love a KPF and he is the most dynamic and consistent, he also single handedly beat a rampaging Vic Country team in the decider with 5 goals and some big grabs, i know its a big call but the mids didnt take their chance to grab pick 1 fame imo

also by my system Harvey Langford was by far the best player of the champs, he really boosted his value, it just depends on the combine for him.

He has an unorthodox way of holding the ball in his goalkicking routine but, by god, he's impressive with his long kicks.

The VM vs VC game won me over.

Ludowyke has been killing it this year, he was already a top 10 prospect, he also looked good in his small appearance at the u18s champs and Dyson Sharp is coming back to the pack a little imo

Looking like next year's got an interesting battle here.

Ludo vs Sharp vs Greeves vs Uwland vs possibly Duursma.

How good was Fred Rodriguez for WA this champs? he bolted into the top 5 for next year too and Onley was big bodied mid for VC, he is improving quickly

Gonna have to find a way of watching these replays.

Have seen Fred's name spoken about in glowing terms every game he played.

Probably shouldn't've dismissed his possible No. 1 credentials.

Not bad for a guy who, in his Auskick days, was an auskicker of the round in 2014 (incidentally, same year Matt Whitlock was) which meant they got to present your Hawks with premiership medals.
