I don't think we were shithouse. We played with a lot of pressure and won a lot of clearances which was a big improvement over recent weeks. But it seems clear we are running an inexperienced team that is also not fit enough to run out games. The young guys in this game gave me hope that perhaps the cliff isn't as close as I thought - we ain't winning a flag soon, and probably miss finals the next couple of years, but there is some hope there.
We kicked 1 goal in the first and 2 in the 3rd. Tiredness wasn't an issue its a horrible game plan designed to keep the ball moving slow around the ground. The youngsters we are playing don't give me hope for anything yet. Just cause you play kids doesn't mean they'll take you to the top 4. We have Rivers and Koz and then there's still question marks over the rest. Plus it's gonna get alot worse before it gets better. May Gawn Viney still carried us.

Putting a defender forward like that they need to be given a year I would suggest. This year has turned into ramping up for 2025
And I don't mind that. Clearly not winning the flag. So try some things. We seem to have a core group of under 24s who are proving they are capable. I don't think we're a chance in 2025 either, but who knows. Need a lot to go right and probably a new coaching staff.

Get McVee in their next. Watching him reminds me of the way Sheezel operates. He looks a natural mid to me.
Ill even go further, sort of reminds me of a young Andrew McLeod when he started back. Not saying hes ever going to be that good, just stylistically, hes a smooth mover and never panics. Absolutely he should be getting games in the midfield.

Effort was great, doesnt mean we played well and its sustainable.
I beg to differ. I thought we played well for most of the game besides another last quarter fade out, which is inevitable with such a young team. To be in a position to win(and really should have) with less than a minute to go was a bloody ripping effort. Oliver would back the clock for a fair chunk of the game. Viney too. Riv played exciting footy. Our forwards had good opportunity. Our backs kept arguably the best forwardline to a reasonable score. Matched their inside 50s, beat them at contested possession and clearance. I'm not sure what people were expecting? I for one expected a massive loss, yet walk away disappointed we lost, but overall really happy with the way we played with such an inexperienced side.

I don't think it's so gloom and doom for the future.

We have Verral coming along nicely to replace Gawn (who is one in a generation, can't be replaced).

We have Petty to take over from May (who I'm worried about leaving at the end of the year)

We have no one to replace Viney and Oliver. Sparrow isn't it. We need 1 decent young inside mid - outside is covered well with the likes of Rivers.

Yep. And keep Kozzy forward. I didn't mind the idea of him as a mid, but he looks cooked when he goes forward..last night he stayed forward and looked really dangerous. I think if we put McVee and Riv in the guts, then Trac and Koz can play forward of centre. You're right, McVee just looks silky af. Need the ball in his hands more, not use him as a stopper in defence.

A young team had nothing to do with the last quarter fade out. Its a shit game plan the revolves around pressure being the best in the league which isnt sustainable. We still cant find ways to score outside it.

You can pick up inside mids at any time. Oliver still only 26 btw. Not sure if he stays around or if we trade him, but get Riv and McVee around him and that trio could be fn hot.

Hmm. I agree. But the last two weeks final quarters were identical in many ways. And when you have Windsor, Woey, AMW, Tholstrup, Petty who can't run, Fritta who doesn't chase, and a tall af line up, then a fade out is probably inevitable. Oliver runs out of steam too this season. I think fitness and run in the legs of a young team is a reason.

Why would north thrash us in the last if it was a young team, so stupid.

I forgot Chin played. Been invisible for weeks now.
He had a decent 2nd quarter. But agree. He had a red hot start to last season, but has been poor since midway last year. He does get some tackle numbers which shows effort and willing to pressure. But yeah, hardly scores as a small forward, compare him.to like an Owies from Carlton and Owies doubles most of his forward stats. The only thing Chandler is doing well in,is tackle numbers. He and Sparrow really don't seem to do much at all. Could be coaching, but Chandler rarely has games where he kicks multiple goals and Sparrow rarely has games where he kicks a goal. Both should be doing way more offensively. Goofy and his gameplan restricting what a lot of our players could do possibly. Or just that we have several players that really aren't good.

Yeah exactly. Which is why I'm not so gloom and doom about it when our stars hang up the boots. The kids have shown enough to see there is light at the end of the tunnel.
There is no light until the coach is gone.

Yeah, I meant in the terms of talent. Goody and his weird selections and outdated game plan is like a noose around our necks.
Kind of agree. We played more kids than Norf last week. Possibly rebuilding on the run. Probably had no choice with our list and injuries. Don't let the doom and gloom squad get you down. Yeah, we need a new coach and a few holes filled on the ground, but some really encouraging signs this year from the kids. JVR and Riv really impressed last night tbh. Probably need both to be pushing AA squads in a couple of years but both are heading in the right direction. Tholstrup last 2 weeks really impressed. Windsor looks tired but has shown he's capable. AMW, Howes, McVee all have impressed. Hopefully we see Jeffe, Verrall and Sestan get games soon.

Hilarious that putting Riv into the middle instantly makes us better. Everyone has been calling for it for ages but simple Simon only does it after nearly killing Petracca.
Goofy is a little slow. Not sure he has the best coaches around him either..the whole coaching regime really needs to be shook up tbh. Stafford and Goody need to be escorted off the MCG premises first. At least he's handing out some debuts this season. And Riv mid, Koz forward is a no brainer

Reading this thread many are complaining of actually how well you did! Yesterday people thought youd lose by 100! Last night you very nearly won! Steven May was robbed of a mark that would have seen him drive the ball into your forward 50. Instead he was denied the make and 10 seconds later Brisbane scored a match winner. Fks me.
