Review Dees v Lions - the Good, Bad & Fugly

Frustrating loss.

-dominated in clearances
-Easy goal misses
-The mark/point review, the goal umpire said “I thought it was a mark”
-Hannan’s kick to the boundary
-Fritsch give the ball back for crying out loud

You'd be pretty pleased as Chris Fagan - Lions played like crap for most of the night but you'll always find a way to fall over the line against the Dees.
Agreed. Lions were poor by their standards. But we lost it at the clearances. Gawn tapped it to their advantage so many times it was like he was doing it on purpose! Wtf?! Defence was great considering our mids got smashed at the coalface. Forwards were awful again. Harmes and Brayshaw in the gun as well as Bennell purely for that miss alone. Cost us the game ultimately..

I'm 'captain glass half empty' but I'm choosing to take a positive view of the bookend quarters.
can't complain about the short quarters when you start as slowly as we do, and we still manage to find ways to concede scores late (McCarthy at the end of the second, Cameron at the end of the third after Bennell missed).

Gus Brayshaw - 9 touches, 2 tackles. Um what

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

That doesn't tell half the story, absolutely shithouse posssions too.

Harmes can't even tag anymore. Just smiles like a pleb after his **** ups.

Good: Viney's determination. Weid's first quarter. Jackson's creative handballs.

Bad: Midfield's inability to rove a tap from the best ruckmam in the comp. The "red mist" descended again.

Ugly: How the game is officiated. I've never been more filthy at the collective performance of the umps than tonight. "Dangerous tackle" get ****ed campaigners. The only person who is happy with the way the game is being played at the moment is who ever is in charge of increasing Auskick participation. Bennell's missed goals

One of Harmes or Brayshaw needs to be dropped - horribly out of form and with Oliver, Petracca and Viney finding the ball for fun they're not needed at the stoppages. Get someone else who's going to crack in for the full game while those two hopefully find form or find out where they're going wrong. Brayshaw's disposal surely wasn't this bad in 2018. Jones looks well past it, and hard to judge a small defender on TV but Jetta seems out of touch, and those repeated head knocks all came from his own lack of pace.

This holding the ball rule has lost me, the game is being over officiated.

Did anyone else feel like there was a return to ye olde 'bomb it long' game plan?

I feel we need a compilation of long bombs set to a revised version of this:

Bomb it like its hot.

I don't really blame Hannan for the kick to the boundary, looked as tho Fritsch had heaps of room to lead up the middle and for whatever he decides to go to the pocket to make it an near impossible kick.

Would need to see a wider view but on first glance looked a shit tone of space 20ms out directly in front.

Fritsch has been doing dumb shit like this all year.

The Hannan kick was a beauty if anything, threaded the needle and hit Fritsch on the chest. Didn’t seem like there were many other options. Not like we didn’t blow a million other chances late.

Rant
Went to the pub to watch this with ****wit eagles supporters (my mates) should of been well up at quarter time. Ed Langdon stealingbthe Mark from melksham and missing in the second. Harleys miss in the 3rd straight down the ither end for a goal. Harmes miss in the last. **** me. These campaigners are equal second. We r better than them. ****
Then in the car listening to the radio. Brisbane were fantastic and Melbourne were poor again. Shut the **** up. **** right off. So over it.
i feel like we r a number at the dog races. We are due. We were so bad and lost to the flag faves by a goal. ****!

All of our forwards besides Melksham just couldn't take their chances when it mattered.

Kozzie done for 2 "dangerous tackles" what a joke - the bloke is like 70kg
Nah, the one I saw was legit. He’s pinning the arm and spinning them into a dump. Needs to improve his technique.

Harley's miss huge, Weid kicks either of his 3 puds and it might be a different result.

Such a frustrating game coz felt like we were up against the umps all night along with the second team on the ladder, then we constantaly shot ourselves in foot to go along with it. Can't doubt the effort and commitment tho.

Zac Bailey was 5-10 metres in front of Fritsch. Could argue Fritsch running to the pocket was clearing room for the guys that were directly in front. Hannan kicked to the wrong guy.

Lions clearly mastered the wet conditions better too, we tried to be too cute with the footy instead of going for metres when we did win the clearance. Look at that final Melksham goal - Petracca just slams it onto the boot after five or six tiny handballs and Jackson gets to the drop of the ball (that speed off the mark is something else). Needed to be doing that earlier in the night.

Really I thought he added a lot more than vanders did, thought he played a role.

Vanders is young enough and coming off a big enough injury layoff that you can expect improvement as the season progresses. Jones offered nothing whatsoever defensively either. Think you're forgetting how good Vanders was against GC just two weeks ago. Tackled like a beast.

Lucky not to lose by a lot more. Goody throwing the extra man behind the ball turned out to be a decent move, restricted the Lions scoring in the second half but I maintain that they were well below their best for most of their game, and we showed that our best isn't going to be good enough if we continue to fluff easy chances.
