Come out breathing fire are we ? Bullshit . ANB gets a punch in the face after taking a mark and how do we react ? A minor push and off we go . We aren't breathing fire , far from it . We are being challenged physically and just accepting it . A hand full of players may push and shove , that's about it . Do something you Pusey's . Make a statement . Get suspended for ****s sake , just stand your ground!! We are not playing like a team defending a premiership , we are playing like a mob happy to bask in last seasons glory . Ark up you pricks !!!!

agree on all fronts. I also just think personnel wise we aren't as good.

This list of players are players that have gone backwards: Petracca, Jackson, Sparrow, Lever, Pickett, Ben Brown, Spargo and Rivers.

I would say Brayshaw is the only improver.

Smashed in marks again, 98 v 80 which means our talls are failing and not winning or halving enough contests. As a result we can’t exert our contested possession dominance.

Key things for me:
  • Trac needs to get back to near his best form. Oliver is copping all the heat as a result.
  • Talls need to be taking their marks again, BBB, Lever, Jackson.
  • work rate/ pressure needs to lift
  • Our ball movement needs some variety. I’d be interested to see our play on % comparison to last year but it looks like we are very slow and low risk in our ball movement. It is killing the quality of our fwd entires.

Main thing is that the correction happens for September.

Apologies for posting this a second time I am a little bit unfamiliar with the workings of this message board. Here is my orignal post below in tonights topic.

I've been holding back posting tonight because I am so filthy and new to this forum but here it goes..

Jayden Hunt - piss off, he's absolutely useless and should never play in the team again
Kozi Pickett - needs to realise you can't just come to play when we are on top, he needs to step up when the chips are down.
Lever - clearly underdone and out form, May being out isn't helping and the bye can't come enough sooner for him
Trac - definitely carrying something and the bye can't come soon enough
Jackson - needs to stop reading the papers and play some footy
Ben Brown - he can piss off, he hasn't kicked a goal in 3 games of footy and offers nothing defensively.

I am not an expert by any means but to me the solutions are obvious:

When Steve May is back move him into the forward line, he played all his junior footy as a forward and we have options to replace him. Our forward line is the issue and May could be the fix. Either drop Ben Brown or move him into the backline, yes it sounds crazy but when Liam Jones moved to the backline for Carlton people were saying the same thing. If we switch it up a little bit we will be unpredictable in the back half of the season and with a little luck trac will get fit and firing and we will finally gel together.

That's the thing with Weid though, he's good at VFL level and then fails to fire in the ones. He's had one good game in 3 years, should have been shipped off to the Pies for a draft pick.
I think he suffers from being the junior player . At Casey M.Brown is the key forward , funny how Weid has a good game when Mitch doesn't play .( JVR also played his best game this season with Mitch not playing ) When he plays in the seniors he is 2nd or 3rd in the pecking order , not knowing what the hell the mids are sending into the forward line. I'd be tempted to play him against the pies , not to worry about marking the ball , just crash into Moore as often as possible . No coincidence Weid played his best footy when he was the No1 key forward . I think some where buried under that insecurity is a forward we can use . Probably wrong but what do we have to lose ?

respectfully disagree . May is the general down back . Really missed him the last 2 weeks .
B.Brown is not a defender , too cumbersome to fill that role .
The rest is fair enough .

Unfortunately Gawn played one of the greatest games we've seen from a ruck and it will mostly go unnoticed. Pity a few blokes couldn't go with him. Trac been filthy for a number of weeks now.

Gawn 28 disposals (23 contested), nine marks (six contested), three goals, ten score involvements, five clearances, 30 hitouts.

Damn you campaigners for taking the shine his game. An absolute all-timer

I love Max , but half the time he wins a tap you can bet the other team will break from the centre . I especially get angry when he taps it towards the oppositions goal and they get a break .
completely agree. I wish he'd just smash it forward and give us ground advantage. He probably leads the league for hitouts to disadvantage but surprisingly this is a stat that isn't offered in the AFL. Strange really as it would be handy.

Why we want to constantly slow play everything is one of the great mysteries of the world.

We’re a very very average side when we chip kick down the wing and kick the ball inside 50 from behind the mark every time.

We won a flag last year playing scintillating football other teams couldn’t go with. Every game we’ve won this year has been largely due to the 25% of the game we’ve played attacking football instead of trying to manage the tempo.

Teams are giving us the option to chip it out wide and we’re taking it every time instead of being aggressive with movement. At one stage Spargo, our best kick inside 50, had the ball 70m out directly in front and turned and kicked 30m sideways. Just totally nonsensical.

It was so obvious how often we kicked it directly to the advantage of their defenders instead of our forwards. Two great examples in the second half: one where you could see Brown had worked in behind the defence and just needed the ball put up slightly to the open side and he would’ve been the only person with a jump at it. Instead we did yet another of these flat 3/4 kicks to the narrow side which he couldn’t get to and was marked by the swans.

There was another when we got an intercept mark about 80 out towards the boundary and whoever it was (maybe Harmes) ignored four players free at the top of the 50 and kicked it to a four on one top of the goalsquare.

Until our coaches remember that we only kick goals when we get aggressive, keep the ball in motion and use leading players, we’ll keep getting beaten by good sides.

No point moaning about how our key forwards played until this is sorted and we give them some kind of chance.

Brown in the backline? The bloke he is playing on would kick 10, simply to slow to go with a player.

May simply stays as a full back, the bloke is probably the best in the league, you don’t move someone who is an AA FB to FF.

Dees fans, I come in peace.
I come not to bury Caesar, but to praise him. In a crackerjack game of high pressure footy Max Gawn was truly a giant among men. Both literally and figuratively. BoG by a country mile.
If he is not one of the best 3 rucks of all time I don't know who is.
Universally appreciated and respected.
Damn near pulled it out if the fire for you.

I doubt they’ve gone backwards. We had periods of being average last year. It’ll happen again and it is happening again. McDonald, May out are big outs. Salem first game. Not concerned. We’ve set up top 4, they’re a bit flat, they need a break. The boys will go to Trac’s place, his mum will roll out some hearty Italian, they’ll reset and treat QB like a final and hand Collingwood their backsides. Back on track.

Thank you for being a reasonable mod. I always think its soft when oppo boards crack it at lurk liking, if they're spamming troll posts fair enough but it does make me chuckle a bit.

Anyone remember that time that Saints fan went nuts and spammed gay pr0n in our post game thread after they beat us with that Montagna goal?
I think I took a break from BigFooty after that game. I do remember a port supporter posting a pic of their shit in the toilet last year. That was charming.

Steven May is an AA full back and the best in the game. He doesn’t go forward.

You would've said the same thing after the loss to freo.
They were missing buddy, there's no excuses. Next week it'll be 'Salem is still finding his feet, May was a bit rusty after his week off, the bye will reset us, Petty is playing sore'. It's not good enough.

p.s. tom mcdonald is never a big out.
