Take the emotion out of it.

I was at the game so maybe I missed a bit but also you get a good vantage point sometimes.

I don't know the stat, but we seemed to get trounced at loose ball gets from start to finish. Every contest the ball would spill loose and there would be essendon players surrounding it for a quick handball and clearance.

We got lucky that our defence is okay and that they also aren't very damaging going forward.

Our skills went back to the 4 first rounds.

Essendon applied very good pressure and we couldn't handle it. They were pretty good in this area.

Say all you like about the usual suspects, but Rachele was trash from what I witnessed. Good last week and went to water this week.

Soligo was probably our best with Dawson, but even he had some howlers early on in the game..

Sick of the low skill level. What the *

That's Nicks' gameplan, load the contest up with players because he's obsessed with contested ball.

It doesn't work, the game has moved past that style. It didn't work against Melbourne and it didn't work again tonight.

Opposition teams don't try and match the numbers and just keep numbers outside the contest and that's why as soon as the ball clears out we're always out numbered.

This loss is 100% on Nicks because he tactically inept.

Dawson seemed putrid in the first half til he got that 50m penalty and goal, from there he lifted a lot and seemed to get some confidence back.

Nicks Presser:
"we will look into why we were off in the first half"
"we'll look back over the week to see what we did wrong"
"can we talk about the last 5 minutes, with a bit of luck we fall across the line"
"we want to be careful about picking out individuals, its a team thing we got wrong tonight"

The mans is a walking imbecile.
This was an absolute laughable press conference!

Can we please by some miracle sack this man now, maybe a loss to Nth Melbourne will do it 🤞

Good: shape
Bad: shape
Ugly: shape

Sack nicks and his defensive wank feat coaching!

Defensive game styles with sub average midfielders and a team that has at most 3 elite kickers don’t win premierships!!!

Yes.

He said we changed our structure at half time to help us reverse our poor first half but that this structural change (whatever it was) would (and did) take away our scoring ability which made it harder

Nicks direct quote

"We had a chance still at half time considering how poorly we were playing in that first half and that was off having to change some structure which takes away your ability to score and play the game you want to play"

So actually he's saying we changed structure before the game

So in a game where you’re outscored in the first half you change the structure which will result in less scoring?
Fmd
Sorry I got that wrong

He changed the structure before the match which made it hard for us in the first half

Not that that's any better

I’d actually be quite happy to never see Laird play again. I am sick of his momentum killing possessions

If we retired Larid and Smith tonight we would instantly be a better side.

It is truly bizarre our well paid professionals can't see this, they must be too close to the senior players.

How many times did smith put himself under pressure resulting in him slamming it on his left foot.

He used to be a metres gained player. If he doesn’t do that then what’s the point? It’s not like he’s a terrific defender

Wing or SANFL, it should be obvious.

Every time he got the ball when we were running forward he would just stop and go backwards, absolute squib

Laird is the only player I've ever seen that regularly stands there flat footed with his back towards to the goal asking for a handball for a cheap one, two.

It literally boggles my mind when he does it.

Absolute stat padder of the highest order.

Nicks back to his usual trash. Crap defensive game plan, horrible selections, players confused and bereft of confidence
I think the problem goes deeper than the Nicks deficiencies that you've listed, about which you're certainly right.
SERIOUSLY:
I think there's a major disconnect between how the players want to play and what the clueless Nicks is telling them to do.

Furthermore, I don't think the players like it.

The Crows started with Nicks' dour defensive plan. It's garbage. It doesn't work.
It looked to me like the players took it on themselves to play run-on, back-their-instincts, free-flowing footy --- which they clearly enjoy and did effectively to the tune of 7 consecutive goals.
I don't think that was on Nicks' initiative.
So, they went from 21 down to 19 up (thanks dogs105 ;)).
My impression was after that Nicks sent out the word to protect that lead, or he changed the driving midfield mix which worked so well. Either way, the Crows reverted to their 0-4 (now 1-5) selves and ended up losing it on the back of some disastrous skill errors:
--- the Nankervis punch for them to goal
--- the (edited) Nankervis and Rachele dropped marks
--- Hinge's lack of awareness late, AND
--- McHenry's, Smith's and ROB's ongoing, no-end-in-sight ineptitude.
+
--- Umpiring bias whose shatness is on a new level of Crows-opponents' favoritism.

Can't run so he does semi turn and put himself under pressure just like what Laird does. That should tell you to retire.....
