It really annoyed me to hear Nicks give that answer

Yeah sure, Charlie had a purple patch

But losing 11 of the first 12 clearances of the third quarter didn't trouble him? Brisbane going coast to coast unpressured from the kick out to the F50 multiple times in the game didn't trouble him? Us allowing them to isolate CC one out in the F50 so often due to the unfettered speed of ball movement we allowed didn't trouble him?

Those things perhaps had an impact on Charlie vs Max?

Needs to dig a little deeper. What is the root cause? What are the first dominos?

30 second sound bite. Not an in depth analysis

I haven’t watched the presser - is that all he said there as well?

You were talking about "honourable" loss and how it "doesn't matter" so I used them as example as part of the process of build a premiership contending list. Yes, they did which is why I mentioned the losing streak they had mid season after starting the season very well and also are now on a winning steak and one of the inform team heading into Finals.
And if we go backwards? How are those honourable losses looked at?

I called before the game that having Sloane in would negatively impact Crouch as he's too slow to get into position to receive, too slow to break away.

Having another Slow poke around the ball with Crouch and Laird is just horrible coaching.
Yep, we got the midfield mix wrong.

Docherty is a quality midfielder? What about Dawson/Soligo/Rachele/Laird with Schoenberg and Berry in there?
We seem determined not to use most of those younger guys though, at least as full time mids.

We could have got another 15+ games into Berry this year, but we went for a cooked Sloane instead.

We don't though.

When the actual game's there to be win, when we have clutch shots, we constantly fail to take responsibility to execute.
This.
The teams that are in the Top 4 take their chances more often than not (Collingwood ridiculously so!).

As you said, we don't.
It's a lack of determination/grit/execution, which the Crows have lacked for years.

Confident he has the talent, just needed to get his mindset right.
Yep was trying too hard and playing too stressed which was effecting his ball take and decision making

Is now looking composed but still playing at speed and it’s coming together

Just needed backing in , ie back in the young guys playing the best sanfl football if they have traits that help team

There more evidence we will play Finals next year and everyone will expect us to given how we improved this year but if not then there will be question about Nicks as senior coach especially if he continue to play cooked senior players next year like he has done this year which has clearly cost us games.

Sloane must have his farewell next week if we're fair dinkum though, Hately or even Tyler Brown, yes Tyler Brown are more worthy of a one year contract.
Honestly not sure any of these deserves a place on our list.

Perhaps Hately as a rookie.

Some of that is conditioning , some are poor decisions like not picking Schoenberg earlier

Not sure Berry has been in the form this year but Schoenberg should have been in 5 weeks earlier on form

What? We used Soligo and Rachele early in the season as full time midfielders and both did extremely well for 2nd year players transitioning into full time midfielders.

We did and then we stopped, preferring to play Sloane in there (after he started the year on a wing).

I get that they can't take a full year in there, so that's why Berry/Schoenberg/whoever else should have then come in.

No farewell game for Sloane. Ruthless, I like it.

Club is too gutless to call time on him and he is too selfish to call time on himself.
Back him in to have "a huge preseason, fittest he's ever been" and be waddling around in our starting 22 next year.

Better = Lairds 21 D last half
21 of the slowest, loopiest, ineffective disposals you will ever see.

Mostly because they got cooked

We then needed to play Schoenberg to take up the slack and not Sloane

People wanting us to re-sign Crouch must love finishing 6-8th every year.

Anyone who thinks Matt Crouch is a premiership midfielder in 2024 (7 years after his yellow jacket), needs to rethink what a top notch midfield really looks like.

We don't have a midfield the calibre of Cripps/Walsh/Cerra/Docherty though.

Unless we invest in that area we are going to be like St Kilda have been for the last 7-8 years. 7-12th every year and a lot of close losses because they lack the class to close out games.

This area obviously has the most development opportunity - which is encouraging.
Pedlar, Rachele and Soligo. An area to really look forward to next year

Are you expecting 2nd year players who didn't play full time mid in their 1st year to play the entire season as full time mid lol? Berry's form has been shit before getting dropped to the SANFL with his form staying shit and only gaining some of his last year form in the last 4 weeks or so. Agree on Schoenberg, his form in the SANL should have gotten him more AFL games as a starting mid instead of being the sub which he is getting now.
