Not against the better teams, we had some bad losses last year. You’re rewriting history to say anyone had us contending against the top 4 away from home this year.
?

We lost games to two finalists in Fremantle and Collingwood by under a goal last year

Sloane starting Midfield....

If Matt Crouch played all year they would've made the finals.

We have the makings of an exciting defence
Borlase excepted, his lack of pace and turning circle were found out today against athletic forwards....and that's most tall forwards these days

Agree to an extent, but still frustrating that we’ve seen this scenario four times this season against top four teams, and couldn’t capitalise on any of them, especially when we’ve had multiple opportunities
Still a massive step forward to be in these positions as well though, not many teams get the chance for honourable losses against them as they never get close. This team is so damn close to pushing the top 4, we absolutely win some of these next year. Just need to make sure we keep AO a fortress and bank the 2-3 away wins.

The back line was great, Keane is improving every week, beautiful left foot kick in the last. Great experience for them all.
Crouch was excellent again, Dawson battled hard and wasn’t bad.
Rachele was good when he came on, shame he didn’t play four quarters…
The goal kicking is pathetic. No forward or mid should be missing from 40 metres or closer in a 120 degree arc from the goal square. It is inexcusable. Pineapples need to be inserted.

Yeah really want to see Murray and Keane together. Strangely enough I wanted to see that around round 4-5 this year after it was evident that Butts wasn't up to it. Nicks cost us finals with his selections.
Butts is well and truly up to it when fit and in form.

Some hard markers on this board, the lad's gave their all and came up one kick short against a genuine Premiership contender on their home deck with a very inexperienced backline against one of the most dangerous if not the most dangerous forward set ups in the AFL. One ball bounced the other way and we win the game.

Players tried their guts out, they will make mistakes, just a bit harder to swallow when it's the senior guys again.

I'm more critical of Nicks, he stuffed up selection yet again.

You'd also think by now he might have a plan to get RT into the game, we are rebuilding, what's the issue giving him a gallop around the wing?

Yes, at AO, which are games we have turned into wins this year. Away from home we struggled and got blown away a few times, but have made a step forward this year to even be competing in these games until the death. The next step is to win 2-3 of these next year and a top 4 spot is ours.

Some poor decisions by the coaching team - having Sloane in the mid most game, subbing Borlase as a tall I thought was strange.

good effort overall

Borlase off Rachele on was brilliant and made a difference. We covered their forwards well after he went off, and he had made a couple of blues when he was on

Even just one win out of those four would’ve been a good result

Going 0-4 makes you question whether it’s a mental thing for the group (especially given our 4th quarter finishing tonight), which can be tough to overcome

But yep, must keep building in 2024

A classic Crows honourable loss away from home.

Not good enough in the end

Do we do the same to our seniors

Don’t think it’s mental, I think it will click quickly as this group continue to get experience. Finals would be great this year but I don’t think make a difference to 2024.

When are people going to stop making excuses for Thilthorpe, yeah he's young and talls take time but he is not a 85kg string bean he's an athletic 202cm 105kg man mountain, he should be hitting the contest with much more intent and aggression.

Good: Hinge spared serious injury.

Frankly, the rest was pretty bad. Our game plan clearly was to attack, pass, and run. For half the first, it worked exquisitely. Then, when the precision left, they carved us up waltzing from one end to the other. This was the other consequence of our game plan. Their clean centre clearances and our amateurish defence were disgusting. There was no way they looked like losing this match, even in the last.

The final closeness of the scores just makes it all worse. Going all-out attack failed.

Both were at home tho.

The three losses against top 4 in 2023 were under a goal and were away from home.

We have the highest offence at this point and likely to remain that way.

2022 - PF 1721 PA 1986 86% (22 rounds)
2023 - PF 1997 PA 1725 115% (21 rounds)

Improvement is obvious but now the hard work and polish is required.
