Ball goes between the sticks and we win the game
Either that or we need to trade in another forward.
Fog is not tall enough and has not got a long wing span to have that aerial presence on a consistent basis. He is not going to be the Walker replacement . It needs to be Thilthorpe and we need to ply him in the same role as against the Power earlier in the year whereby he played deep and he has a run at the ball .

Bad:

I think we're just a finals quality side in a year with a weak top 4. We had our chances. Bad year to sit it out.
With Murray , Doedee and perhaps Jones not back till mid season next year we are starting in a worse position than this year .
Sloane seriously needs to retire . We need to be giving his minutes to youngsters .
Crouch has changed his game since being back in the team , it’s obvious he is looking for the forward handball and not the dinky backwards handball that got us and himself in trouble so many times . Should be getting a new contract but the hierarchy is more interested in Sloane .

Murray is the only big loss. Butts will be back and Keane and Worrell have shown that they can play as KPDs.

The big question mark is can our young midfielders and forwards take the next step instead of just teasing like they have this year? I'm talking about TT, Pedlar, Schoenberg, Soligo and Rachele. Fog also needs to take another step up.

If these players can reach that next level, we're definitely a better side next year. I'm not sold on our player development though.

Need Fog and RT to become way more consistently impactful

It is quite simple Fog goes from 35 to 50-55 and Tex drops back from 70 to 50. We are the no 1 offensive side this year, as long as everyone does their bit we can cover a dropoff in Tex output.

Then again, why can’t Tex kick another bag of say 60-70, if we manage him correctly?

You don’t need to have 4-5 A grade midfielders. You do need 2-3 absolutely.

That’s 2-3 more than crows currently have.

Big stuff up taking mccasey over serong. As usual no one accountable at crows these kind of debacles. You do that at corporate bank and you are out of a job.

Don't forget about Taylor and perhaps Dowling. Both have shown a lot at SANFL level. As disappointing as that was last night it's obvious we've taken some large steps this year.

Good
Keane's left foot pass in Q4
Yep… bullet like 45m pass on his non preferred.

I’ve been watching him in the SANFL all year.. and thinking “meh… he’s ok.. flash of brilliance here and there but not sure he’s gonna make it”..

Wrong!..

he may be one of these bloke that just looks a bit meh at the sanfl level but just really steps up at AFL level.. and its strange that this is actually a thing.. you’d expect that it would always be the other way around.

his field kicking is actually bloody good on both feet.. he’s as strong as an ox, much like murray, and like murray he lays punishingly hard tackles.. really pissed a couple of lions players off last night by hammering them..

I notice also that Nank got at least one CBA with a nice clearance. :)

???WTF?

fog is the same height as Tex and takes more overhead marks than tex does.

tex has never had a real aerial presence… especially after his knee.

tex uses brute strength and incredible skills to out mark, out wit and out muscle his opponents... but he doesn't often get to high off the ground.

Fog is the perfect Tex replacement.

and, as usual, the Fog detractors need to start focusing on the real problem... OUR FXXKN SH*T MIDFIELD. Particularly a couple of the seniors in it.

The delivery into our forwards is mostly atrocious..

That is incorrect, avail yourself of AFL pro stats (champion data) if you don't believe me.

We seem determined not to use most of those younger guys though, at least as full time mids.

We could have got another 15+ games into Berry this year, but we went for a cooked Sloane instead.

Could not agree more with the berry comment, he had to play more instead of sloan.

I only saw the game in patches as was watching the FIFA Australia match.

The last few minutes was definitely a thriller. Honestly felt we deserved the win, a few shank kicks for goals, a poster, an out on the full…so much ways to **** it up!!

The GOOD is guys like Nank, Worrell, and Keane really looks like they belong at AFL and I’m keen to see them in 2024 with an extra preseason.

Also good was Rachele with his defensive work. He seems to improve this aspect of his game. Hopefully with an extra preseason, he puts it all together and will kick ass next year.

BAD - recycled line for 2023. More freakin’ scoring shots and another close freakin’ loss! Hopefully a stepping stone for close wins in 2024.

From what I saw last night I didn’t really see Fog outside the F50 at any point, he always seemed to be playing deep and again trying to wrestle with his opponent rather than running and leading at the ball. He’s always soo much more dangerous when he’s moving, as a stationary target he doesn’t have the strength or nuance to beat his opponent consistently.

Think this sums up our year. Really turned a corner but ultimately not quite good enough yet.

When you're relying on a first year player against the best small forward in the comp and then a bunch of defenders with less than 20 games experience, it's going to be tough.

I'm an optimist and think this year has been quite positive. We really need some of our young players to take the next step next year though (TT, Fog, Soligo, Rachele, Pedlar). Our young defenders are doing really well, but the midfield and forward line is questionable where we'll be at next year if walker falls off.

Good:

Schoenberg one of his best games.

Crouch continues to surprise.

Dawson good for the most part. Think he lost control at key times though.

Worrell strong. Think he's our best kpd with Murray out.

Keane okay but dropped some easy chest marks.

Milera for the most part gave us drive from the backline. Hinge likewise until he got injured. Really suffered after he went off and didn't have the same impact when he came back.

Michalaney good first half but struggled on Cameron in the second.

Bad:

Sloane is done

Fog no aerial presence. Happened too many times this year.

TT likewise.

O'Brien zero influence

Walker second half. Should have had 4 goals really. Reckon he'd be pretty pissed with his game.

Sloppy in key moments.
How much influence did ROB's opponent McInerny have?

Certainly a fair bit less than ROB.

You do realise that the commentators have been talking up our ball movement for weeks or do you watch with sound down ?

We lead comp in possession chains from d50 to I50 scores

Re last night Fog just had one of those nights where he got his hands on the ball but dropped marks , multiple times starting in first quarter when he and Soligo dropped uncontested marks I50

No our delivery isn’t poor overall it’s one of the best in comp proven by stats and spoken about by commentators

At one stage in 1st quarter we were going at 90% and just moving ball beautifully without it touching the deck

Yep exactly

And this is why McAdam has gone so well since coming back into the side as he presents with intent at the kicker and therefore is able to take easy marks on the lead

If you did edits from last night it would be chalk and cheese watching what the 2 of them did

Noted that Fog up against some very good defenders but this makes it even more important for him to get on his bike ( like he did so well previous 2 weeks ) like McAdam did as he’s not beating guys like Harris and Payne in a wrestle

Remember there were posters who didn’t want McAdam in?

Sloane can not possibly go on. It will be up there with one of the weakest poorest decisions in our clubs history if he does. Have some self awareness Rory and put the club first.
McAdam has been sensational 👍

And yep sloane hopefully realises this or club calls it
