Why is this even a thread anymore? Sides went to the bottom for multiple years to get #1 picks, the earliest pick we got was 5. We clearly needed to get talented youth in after clarko went to the well too much, we’ve done a lot of that now and we added some good pieces in the off season. Whether chol is one we will see he has talent and we are paying him average wage and have players developing behind him. we will clearly start to will improve from this year and hope to compete for finals again quickly. That’s not a side tanking. Only washed up journos with. Nothing to contribute like DiCaprio clinging to Titanic debris would even suggest something so ludicrous.

Every chance.
Hard to see which clubs they will leapfrog.
The midfield looks promising but nothing really around the ground from the rucks.
Frost and Blanck as KPD hardly inspire.
The forward line looks to lack in defensive pressure.
Waverley doesn’t help the cause, with no news of any progress at Dingley.
Mitchell into his third season would obviously be keen to climb …
Work begins on Hawthorn's new $100 million home

Thread title really should change. Never ever was this a tanking exercise.
Should instead follow the path of the rebuild and see if it ends up successful or not. Which with deep rebuilds is a multi year proposition. Can take 5+ years to discover if the highly rated youth have what it takes to succeed.

I was going to ask if anyone had checked on Red Bull with all the KCC news today.

“Rebuilds are hard”.
Someone should ask him/her to point to the spots that hurt so much. The pain is relentless going by their delusion. Being wrong all the time will do that to you

Pointless trying to discuss this topic after the deletions of the like in another thread without any explanation at all.
It’s a shame as there was never anything personal or threatening, just discussion gone.
Anyway, congratulations on turning the first shovel load of landfill.
James Sicily’s kids will be thrilled … at this rate they might even get to train out of Dingley at some stage in the future …

Poor old Hawks. Look at the Ethiopians, Egypt, Aztecs etc... Great empires die hard and struggle for ages afterwards. Getting excited about a forward line of Ginni and Moore ducking with the forty year olds Bruest and Gunston beside them...

Was that the 70s, the 80s or the 10s empire. Renew better than any other club

Have a few last night, eh?

So you win 13 flags up to 1958 and since then win 3 in 65 years. At least we’ve lived through multiple empires if you like we can talk you through it…

You're right. We are witnessing the collapse of another empire in real time.

It's just that it's the USA, not the Hawks...

Rough day for Hawks. Already a firm betting favourite to be a bottom 4 team in 2024, and they've just lost their full back for the season to an ACL.

Injuries suck :(

No doubt we will sign on Phillips now as a SPP.

He's done well training with us and by all accounts performed well against Lewis.

Either that or we can get Roughy to play part time CHB/part time list management.

The CJ hammie also terrible news for the Hawks but the also the whole footy world - as he was becoming a really exciting player to watch before his hammies started playing up.

I'd imagine this also means Sicily spends more time actually manned-up against a forward, as opposed to being that roaming interceptor.

I think we are going to try and engineer a favourable match up for Sicily rather than trying to blunt his intercepting/rebounding capacity by forcing him back to play a KPD role.

Sam finally got a good balance going in the back half of the season with Blanck taking the oppositions number 1 KPP and Scrimshaw playing as true CHB with Sicily 3rd man up.

I'd assume one of Frost/Phillips (if he gets picked up as a SPP) would slot into that Blanck position. Not ideal as Blanck was really maturing as an unfashionable yet reliable KPD.

Other option is we could throw DGB/Serong into the deep end.

Blanck is the only big body back there outside Frost. Talking able to stand his ground against the monsters. We will need to start Phillips as a necessity because Frost is not suited to be the number 1 more medium talls/3rd talls. We still could use Sicily in that intercepting role and I rekon for us to play our best footy we will be putting in place the plans for Phillips. The easy option is to make Sicily play tall but we want to progress up the ladder and not spend another year from scratch.

Preseason hasn't been too kind to us.

At a bare minimum it looks like we will be missing the following from our round 1 side;

Our best and fairest (Day)
Our Vice-captain (Moore) - unless he can recover very quickly from glandular fever
Our starting fullback (Blanck)
CJ who is best 22 when fit

Bright side is it will give opportunities for the guys on the fringes to start getting more exposure though.
