How dumb would they have to be to take a player for revenge rather than on merit?

They could do it to try and knock us down the order if they thought we would match, which is actually an effective strategy. If we bid on Jones, it would knock Port down the order for next year, and that in turn increases our position, if even incrementally. They are fully entitled to do that, and I hope we bid on JUH and the other prospects at #1 to force those clubs down the order next year as well. If we can't have the player, we deserve to be higher in the order next year, even more so if it's at the expense of the club who gets JUH or similar. That's not revenge, it's fair.

If they actually ended up with him by 'mistake', and I was the GWS CEO, you'd be thinking 'Do I really want a list team who knocked back a pick and then overlooked more talented prospects to revenge bid on a kid that we didn't really want anyway...'
