... and the third is Christian Jaksch who by his description is a total reach for top 25 anyway.

Thanks Rohdey/Parks.

The description for Jaksch sent images of a young Westhoff through my mind... I flushed it and him right there and then. Wrong of me?

Things to think about ....

If chappy does go it will leave our KPP ranks quite thin

So do we make a play for daniher in the draft
best case scenario - land daniher
worse case scenario - don't land daniher, force essendon to use their first rounder

or make a play for Jesse Hogan in the mini draft
best case scenario - land hogan
worse case scenario - ignored elite mid

Personally I still think we should go elite mid first. Our mid consists of "names" atm. Performances/statistics suggests we're not up to standard as yet.

Given our list management - it makes me think as to the "why" we didn't pull the trigger on Jack Darling in the 2010 draft. Of course Im being speculative here but did we pencil in Darling's size and athletic ability as on par with Salter who we've pigeon holed as a defender?

Believe it may have only been a one year.

OK, just know in the past for at least one contract we all thought was a two year, the real situation was it was one year with a guaranteed extension if player played 10 games.

The standout key forward isn't mentioned in that piece... probably because he hasn't played a whole lot of footy this year. Mitch Brown broke his jaw with a hit behind play in the WAFL.

12. Fremantle - Mason Shaw (197cm forward - South Fremantle)

Shaw is the best genuine key forward in the draft. This was obvious last year, and nothing has changed since then. Unfortunately missed the first part of this season, but his return has been very strong - 11 goals from his 2 Colts games before the Championships started. He can be a little hot and cold, but even on his bad days he generally bobs up for a couple of goals. And while he wont ever win 20+ disposals, he could easily kick 5 goals from 10 touches. He'll play a similar game to Josh Kennedy at AFL level. AFL Comparison: Josh Kennedy.

#14 Fremantle - Mason Shaw (WA – KPF/Ruck)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 92kg, DOB: 15/01/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style: Brad Ottens/Kurt Tippett
Player comparison: Jonathan Patton
Range: 5-25

Profile: Strong marking key forward. Has a presence, marks out in front and can take a contested grab. Had a sensation 2011 season scoring 66 goals which is a great return for the young key forward. Has good accuracy from both general play and set shot attempts. Also Shaw is a serious big game player kicking 7 goals in the grand final which is a big return and shows potential to continue being a big game player into the future. Has played in the ruck but I most like Shaw as a key forward and see that as the position where he can impose himself on matches most as a big marking target.

The problem is, having hardly played this year, he is too risky for our first pick and Freo will be waiting to snatch him when everyone else passes.

Considering everything we now know about Jacobs and the possibility that he may want out at the end of this year, it really seems a big mistake to have ignored Darling with pick 16 in the 2010 draft. Hindsight is everything, I know. If we had gone out and picked up a genuine midfielder with that pick or at least someone with explosive pace, I could now reconcile our use of pick 16 a bit better. But having Darling and Butcher as our future key forward posts (alongside of Schulz) would make me rest much easier now, not to mention having Talia instead of Moore from the 2009 draft.

I think the lesson is that when good key position prospects are available with your top 20 draft picks, and it is not considered a reach to take them there, you should go for it. Future drafts will often turn up mid/flanker options, but the guarantees you will get another decent shot at a KPF or KPD are not so high.

I still think Moore will make it, next year will be his year if he gets through the pre-season unscathed.

I think he'll make it too but the management of our list over recent years, with respect to (1) pacy players and (2) key position quality and depth has left a lot to be desired. Taking four flankers from the 2010 draft (tough on Newton perhaps) to add to Pittard and Moore from 2009 was just daft, especially when virtually none of them has pace.

I'm hoping Andrew Moore becomes our Josh Kennedy. The potential is there.

It is there for him, and for Brad Ebert and Broadbent also. We've compiled a few bigger bodied midfield types, without quite nailing the position yet. These guys need to reach their ceiling under a new coaching regime. Now we need pace/outside run/skill and key position quality to complement them.

Broadbent I see as far more of an outside type... the guy that Ebert and Moore will handball to and he will hit up a forward lace out. His size just makes him harder to tackle, which is a bonus. He seems to be quicker this year than previous too.

The one thing we have done well in the last few years is address our need for big bodied mids. Thats all come together this year with Ebert coming home and Moore and Broadbent showing good form in the middle.

It's the small, slow, weak, injured players, Banner, Pittard, Jacobs, Newton, etc. that we should have stayed away from because we already had a shitload.

What would the chances be of us using our 1st draft pick, land Daniher for minimum period (2 years?) and he requests to head home to Victoria??

This Daniher stuff is sarcasm right? He'd be considered for the no. 1 draft pick if he wasn't going to be snapped up by Essendon. Dude is just ridiculously dominant and will have a long and successful career. What you should be looking at is what is Essendon going to do with so many tall forwards. Daniher, Gumbleton, Hurley, Crameri, Ryder resting up there... one might be forced out.

The richmond board are saying that matty thomas might be going to richmond as well as chaplin??

Any fact to the rumour???

Fingers crossed!

It was just an out there strategic thought. Daniher will be snapped up by the Dons but the question is where ... Imagine if the 'competing bids to the father-son' rule been in place circa 2006 - the Cats would've been forced to use their first round draft pick on Hawkins and forgo Selwood ...

Stringing some footy together now though....with a strengthened body.

Fair enough though.... Daniel Stewart is still providing quality for us I suppose.

Yeah, I get it. I just think our quota of talented but injury prone players has been met for the time being.

Yeah I know, but there's no question to where... every single team that has a pick before Essendon will nominate for him.

Moore will make it, but not next year, still too light on and if he adds 8kg's during the summer running will be harder pace will drop, needs three years to add 10kg's and continuing to be able to run and spread.

A big fan of Gumbelton and would be seriously considdering throwing a bit to get him.

Thomas to Richmond could very well be on the cards, whispers around he is keen for a return to Victoria. Ild be looking to package him and our second rounder for possibly Gumbelton.

Ild be shipping Chappy off to Richmond, Western Bulldogs or Carlton for a first rounder. Free agency may hurt us here though.
Dayle Garlett is my first priority in the draft if Toumpus has gone, however wouldn't be sadened if Mason Shaw was selected
