bellchambers would be rated as an ok ruckman, not a good ruckman.

while we dont even have an ok ruckman right now lobbe and renouf both had non-existant pre-seasons, and while we may need to find an upgrade on them depending on their ( and reddens) progress next year bellchambers isnt that much of an upgrade to make any price we would give up worth it.
Maybe but I'll give you the task of finding a ruckman capable of getting 45+ hit outs and 10 plus disposals in a game that isn't a very good ruckman.

Renouf did something like that this year IIRC.

Lobbe now looks like a massive flop. Can't think of a single positive about his form over the past 6-7 weeks. Completely obliterated at the taps, no presence at ground level, never takes a mark behind the play, always lets his direct opponent run forward unchecked. If Redden doesn't make it, we are well and truly stuffed in the ruck department.

I don't think it's a coincidence that our very worst football over the past two years has occurred when Lobbe has been playing as the sole ruckman. He has barely beaten an opponent in his short AFL career.

The 2007 draft is starting rival the 2004 draft

Lobbe is built like a 1500m swimmer. Tall, strong upper body tapering to a wasp like waist and hips.He probably would have won silver at London. But he is just bullied off the ball by stronger ruckmen. He can leap, he can run all day, technically his ruckwork is sound. But he's another victim of Falloon's training program.

Like Daniel Stewart he needs to be locked in a dungeon of core exercise torture over the summer (assuming they both are kept by the new coach) to build some real size and strength around the midriff, hips and thighs.

If ruckwork means `when i get a clear hit its ok', but how he approaches contests is still dumb, but may admittedly be influenced by trying to compensate for a lack of core strength. Which is sad.

Like my just posted Steve Hooker mention I thought at least we didn't seem to get slaughtered at the clearances which meant I figured at least Lobbe wasn't letting Cox and Nic Nat tap the ball wherever they wanted like Jacobs did. I think that was a case of lowering the bar tho. That's sad too. :(

The logic of one ruck was to add more depth to the mids - concede the HO but win the clearances - it seemed to work:eek:

The 2007 draft is starting rival the 2004 draft

Starting? Its much worse. Lobbe gets thrashed every week. Marlon Motlop picked on under 16 results, picked because family was at the club never looked ever like making it. Matthew Westhoff, picked because of his brother, was absolutely the worst draft choice any club has ever made. Farmer lasted 2 years and went home, then was out of the system 2 years later.

At least Willits, Thomson & Ezard are top line SANFL players, which is much more than either of those 4 in 07 will be.

Blair Hartley was involved in 2005 and 2007 wasn't he? Both shocking drafts to back up soon after Alan Stewart's 2004 treasures. Factor in the flawed strategy of drafting in 2009 and 2010 and the disappointing acquisitions of Renouf and McCarthy in 2011, and it is little wonder our list is in the state it is.

We probably got a B to B+ for the 2006 draft (Boak and Gray, with average results in Paul Stewart and Westhoff)
and a B+ for 2008 (Hartlett, Trengove, Redden, Broadbent, Banner). Otherwise our recruiting post 2004 has been terrible.

The biggest misses in that time:
Scott Thompson
Sam Jacobs
Talia
Darling
Greenwood
Parker

None of these were tricky selections - they were all predictable and we were in prime position to nail them. Put those six guys on our list instead of Adam Thomson, Ben Newton, Aaron Young, Andrew Moore, Marlon Motlop and Ben Jacobs and see how we might now look.

This is no way constructive, but can I just say that I ****ing hate Daniel Stewart.

He is useless. My mate said to me before the game, What is the bet he gets 5 touches and no goals. Well he ended up getting 6 touches and no goals.

JUST DOESN'T PRESENT!

The amount of times our players are looking to go forward, looking for an option and he just stands there, doesn't work at all. He's what 200cm?? Just give a target and contest. I don't give a shit if you don't mark it, just look like you want the ball a be a target. That is your job. The amount of times he did nothing, then came to the bench looking like he'd just completed a marathon was disgraceful. He is soft, lazy and will never be an AFL footballer. If somebody is stupid enough to trade for him, do it otherwise DELIST, DELIST, DELIST!

You know much has been made (from Ricciuto/Malthouse etc) that our talls either don't present or don't know how to present

i wonder whether the fact Ebo gets hit up more often than Westoff/Stewart suggests West-wart are running to dead areas or don't have the fitness to multiple lead

Players I would like to see us target (who we could possibly realistically get). All are getting limited time at their current club..

Andy Otten - 194cm third tall who can rebound well. Has been down as he has recovered from his knee but will expect him to come good next year.

Levi Greenwood - Hard ball magnet with reasonable skills.

Lycett - Quality ruck prospect and our are all of a sudden looking thin.

Koby Stevens - Quality midfielder not getting much of a crack at WCE (similar to Ebert).

Gumbleton - So long as he doesn't cost too much he is a quality tall either forward or back who can add some options for us at each end.

A rumour on the D&T board has John Butcher trying to convince Koby Stevens to come to Port.

Old mates from junior days?

I really hope its true on two fronts.

1. it would be great to get Koby (for the right price).

2. It means Butcher sees himself as a Port boy and wants to get his mates here.

ford had his dungeon post a few up
thing is, we said this 2 seasons ago, and we still dont demand he and his mate westhoff beef up
i mean We here do, but we here were shouting greenwood, talia, lycett, darling, jacobs, thompson (can't say I recall much on parket TBH)

these non drafted players who came good, and the fact that most - well many- of us here have been saying for 5 years this was going to happen- this slide into oblivion for the club on the back of a stale coach and a bad coach, PROVE that we between us have seen enough football, have played enough football, and managed enough people and companies between us, to cast fair assertions

this proves that choco and his "and how many AFL games have you coached?" is just B/S
we had proof that Primus was WRONG with Harry Obrien, and his structure
It proves we could see years ago Fallon was a dill, and our payers weren't fit enough

i believe if you picked 10 of us at random here, 6 of us would do a better job than half the donkeys at the club

Rhode and contracts- absolutely
game day- yep
match selection- absolutely
rotations and sub- no question
fitness- not even needs a comment

there is a widely held theory that footballers and many involved with football are brickheads.

i think Buddha is proving that one for himself pretty quickly, and the PAFC has been over run by people without a clue, active brain cells, and who exude "Loser"

Carlile needs to go.. He was laughing and smiling with an opposition player after the loss yesterday... Just not on.. No want, no desire...

Not 100% sure you can say that about Darling considering he wasn't taken until pick 26. Shaun Atley on the other hand ...

Kennedy would always carve toumpas a new one when they played school footy against each other

Just sayin

Given that both Mayes and Kennedy seem to have a bit of flanker/opportunist about them, how do people feel about selecting that type of player with our top 10 pick?

Personally, the three football criteria that I would have near the top of my list are (1) genuine game-breaking pace, (2) elite footskills and (3) capacity to win big possession numbers. I think the first two qualities are crucial to complement what we already have in the midfield and around the ground, assuming that Boak stays on. From the descriptions of Kennedy and Mayes, both sound like they may fit the bill even if they're not what we'd consider bona fide mids.

I'd love for us to have three top 20 picks (most likely by moving on Chaplin and Jacobs) to be able to use one on best available at pick 7, another on someone like Shaw (kpf) and the third on the best midfielder available. Then with later picks concentrate on kpd and more pace/footskills.

We need more leg speed all over the ground, not to mention fantastic skills.
