Peter must have just caught up with Suma’s interview on sports fm last week where he went over all this at about the 19 min mark

Funny how he was having a go at pyke after apparently him naming all these great players that have been picked at pick 12 saying don it’s gonna be pick 15. Before that suma named all the great players picked at pick 3 when it’s clearly gonna be pick 4.😂

Here was the gossip

Just heard how Pyke fired Trevor Woodhouse (30 year Eagles recruicter who was unhappy about the trading of pick 3). Got the new bloke to fly over from Adelaide to tell him rather than tell him himself. Pyke has known Woodhouse the entire time basically and didn't have the balls to front him. Also, couldn't handle legitimate critisism so fired the bloke instead. Pyke has been the biggest dissapointment during this entire debacle I reckon. I understood Simmo's calls (connection to players etc...) but cannot understand ANYTHING Pyke is doing. Absolutely shoking. Rant over.

That is one way to look at it.

In a decent sized organisation, ceo doesn’t go around firing people personally themself so nothing here is or of ordinary. Irrelevant who knew who and how long. Doesn’t mean they were friends.

Also, if new bloke from Adelaide did it(recruitment manager), then it’s totally appropriate that your own manager does it.

Firing someone is a big deal, very unlikely simply because of airing that you are unhappy. Could be, but maybe he feels he has given too much leeway but you can’t have people not pulling in same direction. When there are alot of changes, some people are just not happy.

Recruiting has been shite and changes are needed.

So Suma has it in for Pyke because he’s the only ex-player not offered a job?

He has it in for anyone who sacks anyone that he has a relationship with.

Pretty sure that’s Woodhouse sitting in front of Nisbett at the draft last year. If that’s true at least one person had some f**king sense but now he’s gone too.

No offence to anyone employed and later in life but it does seem like that room had a pretty distinct type.

Potentially a few of Nisbett’s “yes men”, we’ve been hearing about?

100%. I made that exact comment after the draft last year in that every war room had a couple of very experienced recruiters but mainly blokes late 30s/early 40s that may have a handle on the modern game. Norf even had Red Foo in there but ours was a salt and pepper convention. Mainly salt.

Good post.

If you want to get new ideas, new blood, new younger talent into the Club.

Then someone has to go.

No problem personally with a new broom coming through all levels and departments of the Club.

When change is introduced into any organisation, there are those who embrace it and work with it, and those who resist it.
For the change to have it’s best chance of success, then the resistors need to be be moved on asap.

Our recruiting and drafting has had its critics over the past half dozen years, and those at the helm need to be held accountable.
So I have no problem with us parting ways with long standing employees, over who’s watch we haven’t perform as well as hoped for.

It’s been my opinion and I have expressed it several times on here previously, that we have a player type and personality type that has a similarity in those we draft and those we choose to pass over.

Simpson inadvertently, “gaffed up” a few years ago, by outlining what personality, educational and family dynamics we prefer.

Our drafting has been very hit and miss, so a change in direction and who we trust to make these critical choices, is IMO a good thing.

If you don’t like what’s repeatedly happening, then put some change in place.

Yeah, there are boys clubs then there's Nissies 30 year boys club. I'm fine with Pyke putting the broom through the place. Bet it smells like dust mites over there.

To play devil's advocate, if the rumours are true, the disconcerting part wouldn't be the forced personnel changes but the timing. Woodhouse being sacked now, a month before the draft, would definitely indicate something sour went down.

Not sure what you mean, it's clear that prior even to Pyke WCE had begun scouring the country for the brightest young recruiting minds:
