Player Watch Mid-Season Pick #12 (2024) - Logan Evans

The players nominate up front their terms of either 6 or 18 months.
Yeah I get this, but if we are serious we'd be like 6 months or gtfo champ if we are gonna take you. We're giving you a chance at the big time and you have six months to prove your attitude and skill for an extension. This doesn't mean they have to play footy straight away but it also places the onus of performance on the draftee.

These guys didn't go in the main draft, they are basically on the scrap heap. Why did we bend over for 18 months for that type of draftee? We're way too nice for a supposed elite club.

I would strongly suspect we didn't ask him to nominate 18m to scare off other clubs either.

It's not 6 months though, it's 3 months. Given the fact that he's already at the club I assume they know everything they need to know about his attitude, etc.

So the question is his ability 🤣

12. Port Adelaide - Logan Evans

Norwood
Defender
189cm

Early last year it looked like Evans was shaping as a potential top-30 pick but his season trailed off as did the interest in him, despite being invited to the Draft Combine at the end of the year. He can compete in the air and goes for his marks – as part of the SANFL rookie program he's actually been able to train with the Port AFL squad at different stages as well as playing in the Magpies – he came from Norwood last year. Played the first month there and averaged 15 disposals, including 26 touches against Norwood in round four.

He's from the Magpies - we already know what he can/can't do, and he's obviously already proven his attitude and skills.

I wonder how he went in the match sim against the AFL boys

On SM-G975F using BigFooty.com mobile app

I still havent forgiven the club for not picking up Leek Aleer in the 2022 mid-season draft. I remember seeing him play and was amazed at his his reach and high leap. Looked like a future star, sitting in our own backyard. So we pick up Teakle instead, then GWS take Aleer with pick 16 in the Nat/Draft!

Idiots! He looked a dead-set "free" pickup in the mid-draft. Hopefully Logan Evans ends up being a player that goes on to have a good AFL career. I liked what I saw of him earlier in the year. Also surprised at how tall he is! Taller than Tom Jonas, so Ken could turn him into a KPP!

So it is basically an internal selection . For some reason Kobe Ryan , Noah Howes and Ernst ( 21 , 18 and 19 year respectively) are mature age ???

I am not sure on what basis cam Sutcliffe was on our list ? He had a speed of turtle . Mcantee and Teakle was lacking afl level attributes . But Narkle was best 22 player from the get go . He is still better than some of our curent 22 players .

Our recruiting staff must have seen something in Logan Evans during his time at Norwood as he has been training with us since the beginning of the year. According to the PAFC website he is a smaller defender with a yard of pace. That is something we are short of atm.

Our previous MSD picks tended to be hole pluggers and they eventually became list cloggers. It is pleasing to see the recruiters go for a longer term prospect for a change so hopefully this lad will develop.

I agree about Quinton Narkle as he showed at bit early on but he appears to have fallen out of favour and unless something dramatic happens I suspect he will be de listed at season's end. I have not seen much of Narkle in the SANFL of late but I would have thought that he would be a good replacement for Rioli but Francis Evans seems to be in favour. Maybe someone with the courage to endure the pain that is the Port Magpies in 2024 can enlighten us re Narkle's form?

Narkle has been injured most of the year. He's only had the one game since getting off the injured list and only 2 games in rounds 1 and 2 before that. I would hope he would have been a strong considertion to cover for Rioli had he been able to string some games together. He's kicked 3 goals in his 3 games and averaged 16.3 possessions per game this year.

I hope we have a strategy to still bring in 1-2 better small-mid forwards and at least one more wingman/midfielder.
Yeah, 'better' is the word.

SPP, DBJ, Rioli, Evans, McEntee, Charleson, Tommy A, Narkle and you could even chuck in Williams as small fwd options is a LOT on the list when only 3 of those 8 get selected. So ultimately it's a big problem that the quality there is pretty low.

Haven't seen him play, to anyone that has, is he tough in the contest and does he look like he can stand up under any sort of pressure, or is he just another outside flanker that goes to water when the heat is on. Do we really need anymore players like that?

My interpretation on him from the games I’ve watched is he’s another one of those intercepting third tall defenders. Relatively solid kick and all but not overly quick or close-checking.
