Heeney won some games individually- not sure he can do that again, but Gulden, and Warner, if he stays, are part of a formidable trio. It's ridiculous speculating now, but there are several teams that have excellent prospects- Bulldogs, Carlton, Hawthorn as well. Will not include us in this thread, but we are always there and abouts.
Yes a great midfield, but Sydney don’t have a forward line. It especially showed in the GF when they had no targets going forward.
Until they get a gun key forward they won’t be winning the flag.
Can’t rely just on mids to get it done.

Didnt know where to post this , so i will put it here , because its a bit of a laugh

On the Sydney Morning Herald newsfeed about half an hour ago , news story , Your guide to every horse in contention for the Melb Cup - so i thought i will have a read of that

Apparently still 33 qualified so there is a comment on each , and i was interested in last weeks Geel Cup winner , USA horse , but with a Yorkshire trainer and also Yorkshire owners . horses name Onesmoothoperator , and apparently last 20 years , 3 Geel Cup winners have won the Melb Cup the same year so its a pretty good formline

Anyhow this is the comment about this horses chances , and Danny Russell (whoever he is) wrote this

1ST of 13 Group 3 Geelong Cup 2400 metres " Smashed the Geel Cup field in one of the most dominant displays on a Corio Bay sporting field since Gary Ablett Snr booted 12 against Richmond at KP in 1993 " - ha - ha-ha

Brisbane should be red hot favourites for the flag right now.

They underachieved in 2024 and still won the flag. Their coach is the biggest drawback, but that list is primed to be great.

The only way they go backwards is if they have more injuries than they did this year (they had plenty) and/or they can’t figure out how to replace Daniher.
They do have a tendency to go BtBtB once they are hot.
It'd be great to see that again- I loved their 3-peat, nearly a 4-play.
Agree about all that you said.
I (probably we all) have no idea who will win it next year- that said, I did pick Brisbane about now 12months ago for 2024, and they finally came through.
They have been underachievers.
Their coach is fine- they play for him.
Their list is #1 in the comp, even minus Joe Daniher, imho.
Ashcroft junior sounds ready to go, and their MF is already extraordinary.

If underachieving is a premiership, then I would love for my club to underachieve. ;)
People forget that as good as Brisbane has been, they aren't the only good team out there - and anything can happen on the day. It's a tough competition. Brisbane have been consistently good for a while. Melbourne's star burned brightly in 2021, and quickly faded.
Essendon in 1999 v Carlton, and Collingwood v Richmond are fine examples of how a bad day at the office completely changes history. Ironic that the only year Richmond was clearly the best team is the only year they didn't win the premiership.

Two big flaws in the game are playing safe by hugging the boundary line and not taking the exciting risk of going up the middle, and congestion around the ball up.

The first could easily be reduced by awarding a free for any kick that bounces over the line between the arcs without being touched. If you don't like risking such a free, aim to kick more infield. It works in AFLW.

SANFL rule of last disposal OOB is a free against works really really well. Take away all the controversy on deliberate insufficient intent rules and keeps the ball moving quicker.

The only downside is that it punishes the hit and hope shots on goal but it's a small price to pay

Isn't that the same rule used in the AFLW? I wouldn't mind seeing the same applied in the men's, with the 50m arc exceptions also kept.

Early prediction- GWS Swans GF 2025.
Based on lists & underperformance in 24.
Blues and Dogs in similar contention.

May as well put in a tatts ticket as you could probably make a case for anyone in the top 10 or 12 this year...

So … atpit …. my random guess would be Hawks Cats...

I can't believe the AFL is keeping the sub for next season. No one wants it. But as per usual, AFL House is just so disconnected from the sport's trends.

It was all very predictable that plenty would be winging about sub after they reinstated it. It was hated last time… then brought back for concussion.. Its now a the numbers creep which I hate but Concussion has changed the game. May as well just have the emg as subs. as the concussion demands now are far more officious and non use will be scrutinised..

That is why it should apply only between the arcs, as a legitimate attack is the lead into a pocket or flank by Cameron or Stengle, and you don’t want to punish an off pass that bounces over the line without reaching them.

Yeah I reckon they've been trialling in the AFLW but haven't watched closely enough to pick it up. It's been operating in the sanfl longer than aflw has existed

What happens if there is some question on who touched it last? Is it reviewed?
