If Collingwood had lost that it would have been soul destroying for them.

I don't have any particular point to go with this, but I wonder when the last time a team won a flag with 3 close finals (7 point or less margin for all 3). That has to be the tightest flag ever. You'd be loving it as a Pies fan but having survived 3 heart attacks.

Not that it may have affected the call on Neale, but I don't understand why, when a free is paid, the umpires don't yell the name of the team who received it FIRST.

It's always:
whistle
(pause)
"Trip!"
(pause)
(point left/right)
"Brisbane."

Umpiring was the worst I've seen in a GF, alas. The right team won in the end, but sheesh ... Nick Daicos took two quarters to pretty seriously earn a reputation.

It's a good graph. It marries up with the eye test on strong v weak premiers save for Melbourne which we can explain away as a COVID anomaly. Everyone Sydney 2012 and below gets a meh.

I saw the exact same thing and still think there must have surely been a free that was paid. It was literally in front of me in the MCC.
