reminds me a lot of the Brisbane game early last season, had enough of the ball , especially early on, but couldn’t put it on the scoreboard. It’s draining missing set shot after set shot for the ball to go down the other end and getting goaled against.
Reef and MaCrae have to come in next week , they both should have played tonight

Well we had more scoring shots and won a lot of other stats. I know the scoreboard is the only stat that matters but I feel like the difference in teams was smaller than shown. If a couple of nervous players (new and old) had done slightly better it could have made all the difference. As I said in the match thread, our pies made the easy stuff look hard and the hard stuff look easy.

AJ will cop a lot in here, and yeah he played poorly and shouldn't have got the nod, but he wasn't the reason we lost, an our issues tonight ran much deeper than one player. Bringing in Reef isn't the fix. Dropping Charlie isn't the fix either as I suspect he will be another scapegoat.
He may not have been THE reason we lost but he was certainly one of the reasons. Kind of sad really because we have invested so much hope in him with McStay out, and it's fairly obvious that our optimism was based on absolutely nothing substantial.

They were far too good tonight, worrying signs but still a lot of the season to play out. Don’t want to deflate that air of invincibility too much though.

Dean looked at home, very Roughead like. Other than that very few positives.

In: Macrae, McInnes

Out: idk who but make some changes. Get rid of this ice in your veins stuff and play well from the start.

Veterans look old and slow.

Well a really inauspicious start. GWS were sharp around goals, we were poor. They gave us little opportunity to run and carry and under pressure our skill execution was down. Tough night for Dean as a starter, quite a few players will delete this game from their archive of memories.

Hoping that this is a wake up and next we we acquit ourselves better.

Was it a mistake to select Dean for this game? He did some good things but looked out of his depth
Bizarre take. About as good a first game as you can hope for, particularly given the games he’s missed.

We were shockingly bad tonight our defence especially, the connection with our forwards, missing easy shots. It was against a team on their home deck, who will be contending imo, who had obviously set themselves for weeks or months after losing by a point in the Prelim. I have faith that we will turn it around but that was disgusting to watch tonight. We better come out breathing fire next week.

Poor kicking for goal and connect to forwards.

We will get better.

Sucks to be playing an interstate game in round 1 after winning the flag.

Dillon?
Because any other club and the giants have 12k turn up!
Collingwood is used by the AFL to make the giants and GC look like they have supporters.

Great to see the boys back out there! Lots of positives, Cameron and Lipinski played well and the Daicos boys have come back well. Quaynor and Maynard held up, our structure did not. Too many easy slices through our zone.

DeGoey looked disinterested at times, Moore was a step off as well.

Still, they stuck on until the end against an extremely good opponent who could not miss all night.

Definitely need to bring in McInnes or even Frampton forward would be an improvement on Johnson who just doesn't have the physicality needed for a key forward.
