Extra info: Nathan Vardy scores West Coast's seventh goal of the game from clearance chain. The Eagles have dominated in that area, outscoring the Bulldogs by 44 points via that source.

No coincidence that is occurred when Priddis was out. Ball movement through midfield was so much more fluent.

He's a liability as is Hurn.

+ our aged recruiting this year. We paid nothing for Mitchell, Petrie and vardy and who knows where we would have been without them this season and today.
+ no Priddis seemed to fix all our structural midfield issues and lack of defensive run
+ Karpany showed he can match it at afl level for sure
+ darling had a great game after being poor last week
+ eMac is killing it atm and it's been good for our structures to have a shutdown defender. We need to start playing him on the oppositions most dangerous forward though.
+ sheed the fulltime midfielder is B+ and a chance of becoming A grade.

- Priddis will be back
- we have become reliant for heart and brains on two 34 yo players who may be gone next year
- Masto was poor still confused why parto wasn't played
- we keep missing crucial chances which have let teams back in it. Today we were lucky it didn't cost us the game.

Beveridge mentioned in his press conference that they couldn't send anyone to Gaff without messing with the rest of their structure because he doesn't play in any position for a long enough period of time.

Found that interesting

Sounds like BS to me. Doesn't matter where someone plays if you want to tag them you tag them. More likely they never intended to tag anyone so deciding mid game to throw someone on Gaff would indeed change their planned structures, but a good game day coach should be able to do that and work out a plan b when plan a doesn't work

+ Looking to move the ball more quickly.
+ Clearances and scores from. Clearances were clean and we generated enough I50s.
+ Midfield combination; Priddis can have another 'rest'. Gaff, Sheed, Shuey, Redden excellent.
+ Gaff's first half was fantastic, very tidy disposal and moved us forward.
+ Karps awesome first half, faded but looked like he belonged.
+ Darling had a good game. Capable of more but that was very promising.
+ Petrie, Mitchell, Vardy :footy:
+ Hutchy's shutdown roles are pretty sick.
+ Gov
+ Easy getting his mojo back. Backline solid save a few clangers.
+ Players standing up in the moments when we needed leaders.

- Seem to be fading a bit in the last.
- Still silly mistakes letting us down. This happens to every team, but need to cut them down
- Injuries. Parto a sneaky chance surely (+).
- Masto was down on output, but seemed to be playing BP. Could he be worth another shot down there?

Lots of positives -
-Karpany looks set.
-Barrass again very good bar the kick at the end.
-Mackenzie is finding a role back there but still not sure when Kennedy comes back in and Gov drops back.
-Petrie, Vardy & Mitchell have all been great this season. Kudos on taking the varying degree of risk on these guys.
-Gaff was better this week. He still asks for the ball without thinking what next and it gives me the shits every time. Some of his disposals were top notch and not just 15m sideways kicks. So although DE was down I thought he was taking more risks and opened the game up a couple of times.
-Ball movement overall. Just players going through the middle of the ground lowering their eyes and not afraid to hold onto the ball for a second longer to make sure of a good pass.
-Darling had a very good game. Contested well and bar some lazy finishing had an all-round game.
-Perfect game from someone like Redden. Gets a bit of it is there for contested situations but isn't the guy and doesn't want to link up for uncontested possessions with his limited skill set.

Some negatives -
-Masten's panic blind handball across goals late because there was contact coming. Experienced player shitting himself at contact late in a game. Did it a couple of other times less noticeable and not at such an important stage.
-Team selection. We are a better team right here right now without Lecras, Hurn & Priddis with the form they are in. But likely the latter 2 are included next week with the former a chance the week after probably. And although Hurn can probably have a gig due to injury the other 2 means that most likely one of the younger players in Karpany goes out and/or Redden gets moved back to HFF or or is out. I will be disappointed after that game today.

Positives

Karpany, i'll be honest i wasn't sure he was up to it, he has proved me wrong, and just shows if you give young guys a chance and extended time you can see what the are capable of.
Petrie - Has proven a masterstroke give, the injuries we've had too our bigs this year, he's not afraid to put his body on the line and take a hard hit if needed.
Mckenzie-Getting better every week, i just wish we wouldn't use him as a spot kicker, he's good kicking long down the line, but spot up kicks are not his forte.
Vardy- Great last 5 minutes, and just keeps getting better each week.
Darling- Great yesterday, always provided a contest, should be the norm rather than every now and then for him
Hutchy- Finally found his role, not only can he tag, he is also capable of getting some good possies when needed, and a sneaky goal if needed.
Duggan= I know he didn't get a lot, but he is not scared to put his body into dangerous spots for the sake of the team, he will only get better.

We won away against the premiers, when they were coming we stood up, got in and got dirty around the contest in the last 5 minutes with repeat tackles not allowing them to break away.

Mitchell- a positive and negative- So smart in close, and much better in the centre without Priddis. Sometimes though he calls for the ball when he shouldn't, and puts himself under pressure, i know the players shouldn't give it to him, but they are respecting his standing in the game.

Negatives

Masten and Cripps= Mutimer and Partington could easily contribute what these two gave yesterday, with the bonus of getting the games into the kids.

Still missing easy shots.

- Mental demons are so clearly there. Had a chat in the game day thread about coaching vs players, but Simmo must sit and tear his hair out watching the Tom Barrass turnover. We shit ourselves and go into our shell far too often - all the more reason to bring in kids who haven't been indoctrinated to panic.
This one annoys me. Maybe because Hurn was out. But someone down back needs to use their experience and step in there. Under no circumstances in a close game should a young buck like Barrass be taking on the responsibility of kicking it in.

Having said that, even though Barrass is a young fella, he's gotta know better. Tight game, play the percentages and kick it long and wide to a contest with Vardy, Gov and Yeo hanging around for marking power.

Cripps is only 23-24 I think, hardly old enough for what I'd call keeping a kid out of the team.

I think that was from a big mark wasn't it?
Wasn't from a point kick in.

for an "experienced player" Hurn has made more than his fair share of stupid kick in decisions/balls up in front of goal, this year anyway.

Outside of how the game was played, how shithouse is it to watch telecasts of Etihad games when the roof is open? Way too much of a contrast difference between the shadows and the sunlit areas. I know if the sun is out, you want to use it but damn. It's just such a terrible look for the viewing audience.
couldn't agree more.. its shit also watching the game like that when you're in there too.. Is it like.. "well no Melbourne town, we don't care that it's actually a sunny day today and u have to prove that to us all".

100% this, just shut the damn thing.

Only just getting a chance to catch the game now. Seven minutes in and it sounds like the whole fox footy commentary team (minus Dermie) is about ready to jump in and fly the flag for Johannisen...so nauseating

MMM commentary the entire game was putrid in their bias towards Bulldogs.

No talk whatsoever about what WC were doing right, all about how Bulldogs could play so much better etc. blah blah blah
