Review Positives and Negatives vs Gold Coast

Think you are all discounting the weather as a issue as Gold Coast were crap too really. Was brutally hot. A disgrace to play a game at 3PM in W.A in March. No care for player welfare at all.

The only negative I have is Petrucelle not reading the game. Not a weather issue. Just a football smarts issue. Bring Jones in for next week.
I like 3pm games because it allows the forwards to be blinded for a half by the sun, and as a viewer at home the change between shadows and sunlight is extra enjoyable. Top notch fixturing by the AFL as per usual

Thought both Kelly and Sheed were quite meh for their disposals a bit like Redden and Duggo but they actually turned it on in that last quarter for us.Sheed has gone from an average endurance player to to one of our better runs now.

It was bloody filthy hot all game and i was IN THE SHADE in the top tier.

Can only imagine what those plebs in the sun watching the game felt like, let alone the players running around.

There was about a 10 mins period where it was just back and forth (1st quarter i think) without any goals being scored before Fold Coast finally got one and the players all stumbled towards the people running out with the drinks.

This is why we build houses in Cambodia and run all those PB's gaiz, this is what it's all about.

Its really good also for the crowd on the Burswood side of the stadium because it allows them to boost there Vitamin D intake and is a good for them as being on the edge of heat stroke actually tests their body and makes sure they are healthy.

Its great the AFL can take hard working fans money and also push their body to the limits health wise and make sure they get the vitamin D they desperately need

Wouldn't be adverse to Petch spending the year in the WAFL on a wing.

He needs to learn how to play a role, and it's detrimental to our premiership chances that he's been allowed to try and do that in the AFL.
Apparently that was the plan all along according to an interview with Petch that has since been removed from the WC website

He just asked me how I was, if I was excited and what position I’d like to play. I told him I’d like to start as a small forward. He said that was good but he might consider playing me on the wing as well.”

I feel like it makes no sense not to play him off half back for the year in the WAFL. His future is not as a forward

If blinding speed cant get you the ball then tackle, tackle, tackle.Your faster than most people surely you could catch some

Yeah I think I’ll reserve opinions until next week, aside from the obvious passengers who need to be dropped. The times we did go down the middle we looked slick but Goodluck keeping that up for four quarters in 35 degree heat in an oven of a stadium.

The winning play for the conditions was definitely to play slow and wear down a young Suns, so hopefully that was intentional and we see some different gears on cooler days and/or against better opposition. Although based on the previous 2 years we’d be well within our rights to expect this to be the norm.

This is one of the games we tend to lose and I thought we dealt with them fairly comfortably without our two best mids and 2 witches hats lining up for us. See Brisbane and Geelong (and even large parts of Richmond’s game) as to why we should be content with what we got.

This week is a reminder of why I am desperately hoping Yeo comes back in full flight this year, even if it is in the back half of the year.

Kelly’s ability to generate scoring opportunities is just the perfect combination to Yeo and Shuey and a fit Nic.

Was nice to see us generate scores from the back half which is an area we do need to work on- GC did well to control the ball but when all is said and done we took the marks at the right end of the ground. Oscar Allen is a star.

Realistically 3 witches hats. Gaff was on 8 disposals at 3/4 time.

It was my first game since 2019 - my old man is Covid high risk so we sat it out last year - it’s funny the little things you forget about being at the game.

One bloke near me shouts ‘50!!!’ After every Eagles mark and ‘DELIBERATE!!!’ every time an opponent puts it out of bound. He is also outraged by every. single. free kick.

He gets them right once or twice a game and I can hear him saying ‘told ya! Didn’t I say???’ to what I’m assuming is a friend or wife married to this broken clock.

So I’m listing him as a -ve please.
Ahhh THAT person.
I always remember our seats back at Subi years ago.
I still can perfectly hear that shrill cry of " KICK IT TO LYNCH........KICK IT TO LYNCH"
Every bloody time we went forward.

To be fair kicking it to Lynch used to provide a fair bit of entertainment, comedy, joy, tragedy, farce, unexplained excellence, drama, self abuse, it was all there.

You obviously have some connections to the club, so I take it they weren’t thrilled at the fixture given the weather forecast?

Hai Gaiz :raisinghand:

+ Sat in me new seats up in section 544 nosebleeds. Good bar vicinity. Few oldies trying to be comedians calling out funnies behind me, didn't mind that.

+ Cole was BOG for mine. Barely lost a contest. Was so clutch and clean and cut off so many of the suns dangerous attacks it's not even funny.

+ Oscar was a lord, bare in mind he's dominating their 3rd best defender whilst Kennedy is struggling on Collins.

+ Darling was absolutely hilarious as usual. Never a dull moment watching that bloke live. One minute he wets his pants under a small amount of pressure and cooks a handball. Reiterating to everyone his hands in close are the worst in the league. The next minute he's dropping chestmarks up on the wing. Then he's doing an absolute MOUNTAIN of work up and down on side of the ground providing a contest, often outnumbered. Then he's falling over allowing his man to take an intercept mark, only to get back up and pull down a great grab he had absolutely no business taking. Then he's burning Oscar Allen not once, but twice.

+ Kelly and Sheed to me didn't look like having a huge impact. Lots of meh touches without and actual dominance on the game, but their stats really don't lie.

  • Kelly 28 touches, 10 contested, 3 tackles, 5 clearances, 13 score involvements, 592 metres gained and 114 ranking points.
  • Sheed 34 touches, 11 contested, 3 tackles, 9 clearances, 7 score invovements, 644 metres gained and (surprisingly 98) ranking points

Sheed had the most contested posessions on the ground. Nicnat and Kelly had the next most.

+ Naitanui was a barometer as usual. His bullocking and clearance work was outstanding. 6 clearances himself. I'd groan every time i saw Vardy lumbering onto the ground because you just knew Fold Coast was going to take control of the game again until NN was back on.

+ Hurn was bloody good. Tommy Barrass i rated. His maturity as a player is coming on right in front of our eyes. Takes on so much responsibility allowing fatboy McGovern to be a loose checking pudding.

- I miss the Red Bull 👦 Kid barely got a crack. He's the goat and we missed an opportunity to witness his greatness live.

- Fold Coast controlled the game. Made our oldies chase their fit opponents for the majority of the day. I'm tempted to say they were the better team for the majority of the contest, but were wasteful in front of goals just like we were. I'm grateful we jumped out of the blocks the way we did, i'll say that much.

- Yeah look, i'm happy the bloke took that sweet grab in front of Witts and converted a really important goal, but spuddy Vardy's 3 disposals, 0 tackles, 1 hitout game really isn't going to cut the mustard. I mean ONE hitout??? ONE? In 52% TOG. Boy oh boy wowee. Wish i didn't have a small peen legs and could be an AFL ruckman.

- Duggan was crap. Normal programming has resumed sans mullet. Couldn't get involved. Cooked plenty of people with his disposal, and didn't lay a tackle.

- Nelson deciding to ignore a quick handball to a teammate next to him, and decide to take on the tackler and get wrapped up. Happened time and time and time again. It's frusrating to say the least.

- Several real spud moments from senior players. Duggan, Cripps, Redden, Kennedy all doing silly things which hurt us bad. Redden bizarrely taking tacklers on, Cripps decision making, Duggans disposal and decision making

- Petrucelle with the best Houdini impersonation you will ever see. Got involved in the last which is better late than never though. Clutch tackle.

4 points is 4 points campaigners. We did what Geelong and Brisbane failed to do against their much less fancied opponents.

For that Simpson and Nesbitt get another week.
Negative- Dark Sharks previews
Positive- Dark Sharks reviews.

We mostly got what we asked for. It was one of our better fixture lists as far as "we want X" and got it. Our border uncertainty essentially meant we got whatever we wanted they think ie. in case they have to stab us in the back down the line

Based on how we're treating Brander's development, maybe we can try to turn Petch into a ruckman.

Logan Mcdonald just came in and did what i've been waiting for us to do with Brander for the past 3 going on 4 seasons.

Roughly the same size, Mcdonald just stamped himself on the comp in his first game being the focal point of the Swans attack and booting 3 goals.

Meanwhile Brander plays on the wing (In the WAFL) and is yet to even kick a goal at AFL level from 11 games.
