What everyone in here isn’t getting is that it’s really, really hard to drop senior players and long term S&C/Medic staff because there are lots and lots of feelings invloved. Feelings. HURT FEELINGS. OK.

Do you honestly think that this wouldn’t occur to the people running the club?

Positive - had a kids birthday party on, so as far as I was aware we were leading by one goal the entire day.

Negative - some bloke saw my hat and told me what the real score was.

Disastrous game overall, the team is in tatters but there were a few positives if you looked hard and were generous

+ve

• Kelly tried hard and showed some form although he kicked to the opposition a lot, probably partly because there was no-one to kick to;
• Much improved effort by Darling but there was no-one else to help in the forward line
• Barrass maturing as both a player and a leader, little help in the backline;
• Strnadica showed some positive signs in his first game;
• Shuey getting through the game and showing some fight;
• West was busy although his kicking is poor

• O’Neill didn’t back up his good form;
• Rioli seems to have lost his mojo, injured? or something else, we really need him to fire to be competitive;
• Ryan sporadic, Ryan and Rioli were well covered by Hinkley;
• Kennedy appears cooked, cannot contest high balls, I think Dixon would be a better option;
• Foley poor, Duggan poor, Cripps poor and fumbly;
• Yeo’s concussion, he is having a real bad run, Langdon replacing him was ineffective as expected
• No obvious coaching responses or new game-plan

Sadly, it looks like being a long and painful year, WC look miles off the pace, lack basic fitness, competiveness, fight and cohesion (synergy ), hopefully we uncover some pieces to rebuild with and establish a direction, I don’t know whether Simpson should remain as coach, there are people much better placed than I am to make this decision, perhaps Jarrod Schofield is the coach in waiting.

We also came back from 44 points midway through the 3rd quarter against Adelaide that year, and beat Hawthorn for the first time in 12 years at the MCG as well. We smashed Collingwood (who made a prelim) at their home ground, and came to closest to beating Richmond when they had their run of 12 consecutive games at the MCG. It’s easy to establish a certain pattern when you ignore specific aspects that contradict your account.

Having a bad S&C (and related) team isnt circumstances - it is self inflicted by mad management and leadership. What other citcumstances can you put forward as an excuse to cover poor management and leadership?
