Jones is out with concussion protocols. I think keep Bergman down back and bring in a young midfielder like Jackson or Burgoyne. I would go with Jackson for his first game.
The forward coaches have been gaslighting us McEntee and they are out of gas. Rioli comes straight back in and we will see how he plays with Evans.
Depending on health, Lycett comes in for Visentini but I wouldn't be unhappy if he gets another game.
If Dixon needs a rest or is injured, you throw in Lord and be patient with the goal kicking.

The guy who needs to also be seriously looked at is Burton. We could put Williams in his spot and get another young midfielder in there. Burgoyne could come in.

We need to keep an eye on Boak.

I have not been impressed with the form of Bonner or Mead so they can wait. I don't want Jonas in the team either.

They are now beatable down there so we have to cash it in but with recent form, I don't like our chances.
Obviously, you haven't watched any of the SANFL games then? Mead & Bonner have been very good. Burgoyne in the mid field?? please! Burton, Wines and Williams should all go out based on form, been plodding for weeks.

Lord needs to be an in ..

I believe he is our most dominant young forward a young tredders with his s**t kicking skills but can mark like a mother *er
Yea but the thing is, he absolutely sucks at SANFL level. If he was ready to play AFL consistently, he should be dominating in the lower league.

Heading into the bye I had such high hopes, the last 3 weeks have deflated me so much I’m almost craving a Janus post telling us it’s all part of the master plan and total footy is just around the corner.

If you've been following along, you'd know total football has been here the last 10 years, we've just gotten unlucky a few..... hundred.... times.

Mead's last 2 games look like that of a kid who has been told he'll be delisted if he doesn't lift. Which is good. However it's also as an inside mid. A position he'll never fill in our senior squad and any time he's played any other role he has failed.

IN: Lycett, Rioli, Bonner
OUT: Jones, McEntee, Visentini

General squad questions:
1. Wines needs more inside time, can JHF spend more time forward? could Wines play Drews role? Could Butters spend more time outside, he does his best work when linking up?
2. Finlayson/Marshall, Marshall has been disappointing all year if he continues to play like this and Finlayson doesn't arrest his slide we're not going anywhere.
3. Dixon/Lycett, I have no idea how we're going to successfully carry these guys to and through a GF. Dixon had a big stint off and never came back any better and you have to ask the question of our management of both of them. If they aren't firing in finals we wont win anything.
4. McEntee/DBJ, they're giving us zero the last few weeks. In fact since DBJ's first few games as a small forward, he's been virtually non-existent. Evans call up was actually overdue and with Rioli returning the club has to at least make the call on one of them.
5. The wing, Boak, Wines, Bonner, etc. We've got an issue on one wing. Duursma is trying to work into it in a team that plays direct footy and is being smashed, but the other wing is a huge issue.
6. Our defence, as a whole we just don't win one-on-ones, we allow crumbing goals easily, and any sort of quick entries just end up in scoring shots. It's just a mess when we're not dominant in the other aspects of our game. The most extreme and glaring vulnerability that we've seen against Carlton and Adelaide is our inability to stop transition rebound off half back. When teams get on top down there they run off in waves and put us to the sword.

For a team in 2nd, it's hard to believe we have so many questions over the group.

He didn't when he played against Geelong last year. And Geelong didn't even have Stanley in that game.
But losing clearances to peak 2022 cats is a bit different to losing to 14th placed Adelaide with a midfield featuring Crouch, Sloane & Keayes.
Rob controlled the stoppages & our mids were on the defensive all night.

I'd prefer if they just played Bergman in the backline for the rest of the year. He was playing well there and then they just randomly moved him to the wing and his form has gone downhill.

It might not be his preferred position but he is bloody good there and we have others who can play wing.

Great post, here is my two bob’s worth.

1. Wines should not be on the wing, if the extra around the ball is required, let him run in from the flank. JHF to a wing has merit but we may miss him around the ball.
2. Finlayson/Marshall, need to be split. Marshall has not been the same since he was told to change his attack on the ball (as protection from self-inflicted concussions). Our wings are dreadful, perhaps play Finlayson on the wing (where he could be a mobile ruck after the bounce). Maybe Burton goes plays in attack.
3. Dixon/Lycett need protection; we must play a support ruckman, If Lycett plays, also leave Dante in. If no Lycett pick Lord & Dante. It is far too big a risk to ask Charlie to ruck on one leg. Big, big big out for Geelong this week losing their Swiss army knife, no Blicavs.
4. McEntee/DBJ, they're giving us zero the last few weeks. Agree on Evans he has been the sub four times and only played three full games, bring in Narkle with Rioli for some more local Geelong ground knowledge, perhaps swap DBJ for Burton to tag Rowan or maybe he replaces the injured Jones.
5. We've got an issue on one wing. Strongly disagree, the problem is on BOTH wings X cannot kick it over 40 metres. We need someone who can play the position, I am not a Bonner fan but he or perhaps Dumont should go to the wing. Dumont like Evans has been in good form all year for the Magpies but was considered (when we were winning).
6. We allow crumbing goals and quick entries because our brittle defence is predicate on the success of our mid-field. Lacking key defenders, the mid-filed must compensate and the last few games have failed miserable. Get Burton out the team or at least out the back-line. Good news, no Hawkins this week, Obviously Lycett would assist but a huge problem is the lack of two-way running by the mids and wings.

Ruck issues and the bye aside, for me it all went downhill when Duursma came back into the side far too early and playing slow people like Wines on the other wing destroyed our two way running. Bergman is a good two way runner alas, his marking skills are needed down back.

The Crows went all out and hammered Butters in the first term last week, if sore, perhaps he plays wing.

I brought myself to care again, about the result of the Showdown, and of course got burnt yet again by Hinkley's Heroes.

Couldn't really give a **** about this one.

*hopefully that will flip-flop come game day

Would be okay with Fantasia in as well just because we don't kick goals so load in as many goalkickers as we can.

21 inside 50s to 8 in the third quarter only for a 1 point lead, that is disgusting.
Alas Fantasia is a long way back having missed the last two SANFL games.
He is running out of time where he needs to play at least two or three games in a row for the Magpies to prove his body can hold up.

As much as his ability to rack up injuries has transcended even meme status, I still firmly believe that Fantasia is needed in the team. We have enough pressure, we need guys that are just hungry to kick goals, and have the ability to do so.
