Commentating is actually bloody hard, i was asked to commentate a hockey grandfinal where i knew all the players and ended up more of a defacto special comments guy cos it's actually very hard to call things as they happen for more than a minute or so

Try putting a game in mute and commentate how you think it should be done (call all players "Smith" to make it easier) and you'll see what i mean. Gotta be able to yap ceaselessly without stammering or making mistakes

With that said there are good commentators out there in the world and i wouldnt say the AFL leads the globe in that respect

But these people are paid big money to call games. They, like umpires should know every player from all clubs..
Not just Kelli, but she grates on my skin and does strange things to me hearing aid.
Not sure of his name, but the race horse caller that has stepped in recently is a prime example of jow callers should call games. Nust call what is happening where the ball is. Don't talk about what happened last week.
I agree, it is hard, but they need to become more professional. Oh.and stop yelling. The Voice never yelled and screamed

Because her commentary is woeful and her voice is grating. Like, if she is the token female voice to tick a box, pick literally any other woman.

Because she IS the worst. You are right though there many awful blokes but imo they are still a bit better.

Underwood is shit. But plenty of other commentators cop it from fans, and copped it long before Underwood even began commentating.

Most commentators are shit. My favourite thing about attending games is not having to sit through that shit. Wish they went the NBA route and had team commentators.

Because she is obviously a diversity hire without actually being any good at it or having an up to standard knowledge of the game, teams, and players. I'm sure there are women out there who could be good commentators but she is not one of them.

As well as “… the… orange team” her call of Freddys awesome goal last year was just horrific. Other commentators are bias or too over the top bad, she legit struggles to put words to mouth. It’s a different kind of bad and it’s worse IMO

She tends to be overly verbose for TV; even in the actual Orange Team clip she could've cut the syllables back to "7 in a row for..." instead of "7 consecutive goals for...".

Honestly I like her more on ABC radio, where you need to be more descriptive, but maybe that's cause you can't see what she's getting wrong.
