Review R14: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Sydney Swans

We are a far cry from being competitive and one off season isn’t gonna change that.

This is the problem with the “rebuilding so let’s tank for a higher pick” theory.

I warned against this course of action several seasons back and well…here we are.

Not likely to get out of the cycle of suck anytime soon

Weird game. We looked the better side for a half. Then a few key moments and they were 20 points up!.

They restricted our best players well and that was it imo

Hard to say who was from the pocket. Soligo looked good whenever I saw him. Rachele put in some unexpected efforts.

Back line was shocking. Has been our rock all year. Keane bad 1v1.why we left those two on each other I have no idea.

If we can get moyle, cumming, welsh, and 1 or 2 top 10 mids it will go some way to fixing the list quality issues
Assuming the drafted players are any good. Which given our history is far from certain
Then we need a new coaching panel
Small improvements next year then much better in 2026
That's the dream anyway

So we need to be 100% on target when we have struggled for 50% several times. I don't like our chances.

It's on Nicks.
At the latest (which would have been after Amartey's 3rd or 4th goal) Nicks should have moved Keane off Amartey.
A half-decent, half-competent Coach could see that; Nicks is neither.
That's another confusing factor. He used to be able to do this. That 2022 game against Hawthorn is a prime example. Butts was getting shredded by Mitch Lewis in the first half, so he swung Murray on to him, and Lewis had no impact for the rest of the game. We still lost, and the switch was probably made a bit too late, but he at least showed the capacity to make a change.

What precisely has happened to him to cause him to become a worse coach?

That was probably just an exceptional occurrence.

Can't believe we went from beating Sydney last year (if it wasnt for the goal umpire to whatever we are this year).

What happened?

I'm out again for a while. I'll leave this place to the brilliant brains trust that will solve everything, complaining about Adelaide losing but somehow conveniently not willing to acknowledge that the AFL constantly screws us and we lose from that.

Have a good night.
Ah yes, the victim mentality. Plenty of winners and winning organisations swear by that rather than doing everything possible to overcome adversity.

Ps, we have far more free kicks for than against this season. Something like 5th on the free kick differential ladder last time I checked.

But the boogieman AFL is out to get us. Ooga booga.

Well. Didn't expect to be quite so close in the first half, but end result as expected.

When will Nicks go? And will we get a hardass coach that brings a broom and knows how to set expectations and demand people follow them? We live in hope.

Ugly: Our gameplan against the Swans was to sweat their turn overs. Up to 20th minute of the 2nd quarter they were fluffing most of their shots at goal allowing us to rebound. We kicked accurately at goal in the first half. Once Sydney started nailing their shots our avenue to goal dried up. They were killing us on ball in the first half already.

Over the last 7/8 years the club has gone out of it's way to check off the fantasies of draft-obsessed weirdos.
  • Finally got father/son draft picks and used them on... two players that never played a game
  • spent heavily to get Gibbs back after he was cruelly stolen under the previous iteration of the rules!
  • got an actual number one draft pick!
The only one left really is "Play so badly that Adelaide gets priority picks."

It'll be a tough one, but I believe that the club can do it.

Wait, when the **** do you think that happened?
