Review R14: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Sydney Swans

We are a far cry from being competitive and one off season isn’t gonna change that.

This is the problem with the “rebuilding so let’s tank for a higher pick” theory.

I warned against this course of action several seasons back and well…here we are.

Not likely to get out of the cycle of suck anytime soon
They didn't tank and the experienced blokes are mostly shit.

To understand why we’re in this predicament you just have to look at 2018 draft. We started trade period with better picks than port.

We draft Chayce Jones and McHenry. Port drafted Rozee and Butters.

We have no upcoming midfielders, rucks or key forwards. Even though we’ve missed finals 7 years running.

Our only good players were traded in.

The rebuild has failed. We need to start again but this time without the good but ageing senior players. Could be looking at North Melbourne level mediocrity for a few years as old players retire and young new players aren’t up to it.

Burgess' credentials and results in previous appointments place him at the top of people in similar positions.

Lazy.
How lazy?
Very lazy.
Players who do not chase, block, run hard both ways are selected by Nicks week after week.
For Burgess to succeed he needs total support and buy-in from all of the Coaching Staff and players. He won't succeed, even with the best plans/methods, while Nicks rewards mediocrity.
Nicks rewards underperforming players and has obvious favourites which is counter-productive to team success, team morale and selection integrity.
Burgess' elite standards are undermined every week by Nicks' selections/favoritism and strategic failures.

I'm surprised Burgess has not resigned after Nicks' most recent, repeated failures and ineptitude.

Yes, and yes.
Players who underperform are only held accountable by Nicks if they are rookies/juniors.
Need proof? Laird. Murphy. Sholl. Jones, and after the last 4-6 weeks I'd even add Keays.

Maybe you are right, the work rate of our players is pathetic. We are just a club that never ever makes people accountable for the shit that’s been delivered. We should have know that we were going to have a poor year when they announced the leadership group. There is no accountability from anyone, therefore everyone does what they want and now it’s turned to what we have. I completely piss weak football club from Olsen to our worse player McHenry.

This will never change until the club acknowledges the mistakes made

Red dots are syd free kicks, blue adl.
We were running at 2 free kicks to 1 prior to this, we EARNT ours.
In this period we couldn't get a heap of free kicks and they got anything and everything.
I'm sure it makes no difference.

To think this has anything to do with umpiring is deluded. Skills effort coaching spring to mind. Only one eyed supporters blame umpiring.

What have I missed with Rachele tonight?? Thought he went when he had to each time. Did I miss a squib or something?
Too much Rachelle hatred by some. Imagine playing half forward and consistently being 3 on 1 because your nuffty coach plays an outnumber at the contest around the ground. Rachelle must be soft because he can't consistently beat/outmark players and gets caught holding the ball. Our coach is ruining this guy, that's how we rebuild remember

My main regret tonight is that my phone died so i couldn't listen to the melts on the radio after the game. I heard rowey went off again. Is there a way to listen to it?
It should pop up here at some stage.

(Copy and paste link and remove the gap between the h and ttp. For some reason BF is automatically picking it up as a media file and screwing the link.

I think we have had 1 free kick paid inside our forward 50 for the whole year with our opposition getting multiple.

We are being punished for pur complaining last year.
That is ludicrous. So ley me understand, when we played well attacked the ball and got hands on it first we were ahead in free kicks. When Sydney put the foot down, attacked the ball and got first hands (and Hinge our leader had a brain fade) it evened out. Yes I clearly see how umpiring is to blame

We are shocking umpire whinges on here

Good:

I was out for my bday dinner so didn’t watch a minute of the game

Bad: All the comments from my mates excited at the first 1/4, telling me what I’m missing

Ugly: checking my phone over the last qtr to see us go from 3pts up to 3pts down to….not kicking another goal

My main concern with sacking Nicks and no o r else is that Roo will just go and coach Goodwin, and nothing will change.

They'll justify it because he's a premiership coach, but that team could've coached themselves to a flag.

Most premiership sides could be classified as that. The Melbourne group is no more talented than any other flag group we have seen in the last 20 years
Who were the gun forwards in that Melbourne team? Outside of Pickett - no one

Sure Oliver Petracca Gawn are awesome - and May Lever. All GF sides have that level of quality

Yep. We could be entering a deep trough for a while but we won’t quite be bad enough to get priority picks

If Sydney are so good and we are so crap why'd they need a massive ride from the umps to get back into the game?

Early in third quarter I reckon free kick was about 18 to 11 our way, by the end I reckon it was about 20 each.

Why when we have a bad free kick count against us do we not get the evening up free kicks.

We might be bad but this league (and the SANFL) and its officiating is utter BS
Frees have nothing to do with where we are at. We just don’t have the list

how to say you haven’t watched the swans without saying you haven’t watched the swans.
They get back into all games they’re behind in (except Richmond) IMG_4704.jpeg IMG_4703.jpeg IMG_4702.jpeg IMG_4701.jpeg IMG_4700.jpeg IMG_4699.jpeg IMG_4698.jpeg IMG_4697.jpeg

Well given our list is apparently similar to Sydney's, the loss should be exclusively down to sh*t coaching.

Fair dinkum, we have about 8 players who simply aren't up to to AFL level.
