Richmond - time for a rebuild?

Richmond hit the draft hard in 2021 taking five picks in the top 30.
This was meant to be the beginning of their rebuild, but none of these players are coming on as Richmond would have hoped.

Richmond took seven picks in the top 30 of the 2024 draft, but what happens if these players don't come on and the draft is a bust like the 2021 draft?
It could be the beginning of a long period in the wilderness similar to 1983-2016.

Yze isn't a good coach either, as a player he was a flaky half back flanker who never tasted premiership success and he was a part of a loser culture at Melbourne.
The likes of Caroline Wilson will have the knives out for him soon enough, probably as soon as this year if Richmond look like winning another wooden spoon.

Yze has not had the chance to be a bad coach, lol

looking better than Geelong :D

I can understand your getting edgy and nervous as a Geelong supporter.

I hope the mods do not keep you out because I fell for your fear for your Geelong team heading to the abyss and RFC potential down the track is frightening

Played in a reasonable period under Daniher, including a grand final appearance

Experienced premierships in a coaching role at Hawthorn and Melbourne.

But you don't have much grasp of him as a player. Yes, he could be a bit flaky, but he played far more forward and wing than he ever did half-back.

He has years where he kicked 30, 37 and 41 goals and he didn't do it at half-back. He also never kicked 17, 19, 19 and 24 from half-back, which he did in other years.

Taper definitely has a good grasp on one thing. 🤣

You tell him Magic.

Pretty sharp our Geelol suporting friend. They have worked out if none of Richmond's recruits are ever any good then the team won't perform too well.

Obviously being the most recent dynasty team we wouldn't know anything about recruiting dynasty teams. 🤣
i have no problem RFC being under the radar before we take off.

mainly focused on winning GF's, so they can chip away all they like beforehand :D

Enjoy the next 30 years in the wilderness.

How long before another truckload of manure is dumped at Punt Road?
How long before Richmond need to launch another 'Save Our Skins' campaign?
Who will be the next Richmond coach to get spat on by one of their supporters?

They will be the next team to go back to back.

...

With spoons.

Last time you couldn't see it we smashed you in 3 finals on the way to 3 x Richmond flags.
Why the need to start smashing spoons so soon after? Nobody could see it 2021 either.

The Cats got on with winning a flag and continuing to contend. It's rather unbecoming to just plummet into an all time bad team.

it is not a issue, we have a longer term plan, premiership(s) are the goal with the empahsis on plural with all the benefits

The benefit being a 35 year slump afterwards, like the last premiership in the 80s? It probably is still worth it and I look forward to hearing all about it in 2060.

Counterfeit news so counterfeit it is detectable from the moon.

Finished in bottom 4 once in 15 seasons with one of the worst 2 injury lists ever seen. On average teams finish bottom 4 around once every 4 seasons.

The abyss I was referring to was '81 through '16. Two standalone prelim thrashings was about as good as it got, right? Many more seasons not playing or winning finals at all.

'22 is the marker to beat from this run so far ('21-present). A hard fought EF loss. I think in 2030 it will be bettered.

The introduction of Tasmania into the AFL could come at a bad time for Richmond in terms of a rebuild. I think they've got 2 - 3 years of being a competitive mid range team before they bottom out and have to rebuild in several heavily compromised drafts.
Ummmm..... I disagree.

Gold coast came in the AFL in 2011. They had 9 picks in the top 20 in 2010.

GWS came into the comp in 2012. They had 9 picks in the top 20 on the 2011 draft.

Tigers drafted well in 2007-2009. That set them up for finals in 2013-5. And finals in 2017-2020.

Tassie comes in the comp in 2028. So they will get a lot of 1st round picks in 2027.

Tigers drafted many kids in 2024. They will also do so again in 2025 and 2026.

If history repeats.... That means finals in 2030-32 a drop in 2033 then a 4 year flag window in 2034-37

Teams out of Richmond & Geelong who have failed to win flags by whole decade:

1900's Geelong
1910's Richmond, Geelong
1920's neither
1930's neither
1940's Geelong
1950's Richmond
1960's neither
1970's Geelong
1980's Geelong
1990's Richmond, Geelong
2000's Richmond
2010's neither
2020's neither

Geelong failed to win flags 6 decades. Tigers just 4.

More fake news.

Only thing is there are more mechanisms to speed up a rebuild now and upcoming. Free Agency, extended future trading, & draft pick purchasing. Also Richmond has a blueprint to follow this time.

i think we where lucky with the quality in the 2024 draft in terms of depth

lot of water to go under the bridge but we cannot win in 2025, teams like Brisbane and others are just far too advanced, it is impossible to build the development in that timeframe, it is okay, if we where not adding talent the screams would be loud, but the silver lining from real upside down the track is real.

that is why others can yell, I believe, if I did not believe, don't worry I would be screaming far more!!!

I am happy for others to slag us because I am confident, despite this we will come over the top in the not too distant future and win a GF, maybe like 2017, we will see, with some different players and maybe a different tweeked method

I want others to not rate us so we can go about it quitely in our own way without drawing too much attention to ourselves before we are ready to rise properly for real
