I've seen enough of Dow. Needs to go back to the VFL for a good 5 weeks in a row. Similiar to how we dropped rioli. Let the reality sink in for him that he won't be gifted games due to injury. This is worrying signs for him. Make him earn it.

Bring in Sonsie immediately. He is one of the most talented on our list and was touted as an early first rounder for most of his draft year until he got injured. We have seen glimpses of what he can do and he's still very inexperienced. Get him in NOW. None of this forward pocket rubbish either. Make him our Cotchin replacement and get games into him.

McAuliffe can't be worse than dow. I would rather him in to see if he works harder.

I feel like cumberland isn't even on our list anymore. Something is way off.

Balta is and will ALWAYS be a better defender (spoiler) and interceptor than a forward, although I understand why Yze has made the switch. Lynch is 1 injury away from career in strife. However, I wouldn't mind seeing Balta develop into a Blicavs role. I can see him running on the wing, playing a bit of ruck and then going forward. He has the athleticism and speed.

Bolton and Dusty need to be in the middle for us at the same time. All this talk of Dusty going in the middle? Make it happen! Dusty, Bolton and Taranto should be our starting mids. Dusty's strength giving it to bolton to run away from the pack, why don't we ever do this? Taranto is more a clearance kick and hope.
Then one of dusty and Bolton goes forward in the rotation. Sonsie comes on and replaces either dusty/bolton for a rest or to go forward.

It takes several years to knit together a solid, sound defensive unit.
Astbury was 26 when he won his first premiership.
It will take a few years for cubs to improve.
Sometimes, they cough up the ball across half-back.
When they mature, then we have a four-year window.

Look at all those disposals in the centre square lol
Seriously though ... put MRJ in the centre bounces for speed and defensive pressure ... while sending Dow to the VFL to learn to use his elite hands in the forward line while learning to apply tackle pressure like we have insisted on with Cumberland

It’s all irrelevant what you’ve stated bc fans are passionate and become different people during games and when online directly after them. If you don’t like their attitude you have three options:
A. Stay away from here if it’s too sensitive for you.
B. Start your own Richmond Forum like that moron on PRE and have everyone rubbing your balls otherwise they’ll be kicked off. You will end up with a forum full of bland homogeneous posts to your liking.
C. If you’re on here then learn to respect other people’s views and not to agitate them by criticising them like the original post you made.
A. I've been here for nearly 18 years, I've seen plenty of posters come and go and I'll be here for as long as I can.
B. Who the hell do you think you are telling me to go somewhere else. Over the years I've gained a lot of respect for posters who are able to offer up different opinions without taking things personally, and I believe I've gained a lot of respect in return for being able to offer up a different opinion of my own again, without making things personal, however on occasions I will make exceptions and this is one of them.

C. You're one of the biggest agitators on here and one of the first to level criticism at anything the club/coaches/players/posters do that doesn't suit your opinion. So maybe you should learn to respect the views of others instead of climbing on your high horse when someone is critical of so called supporters overreacting 3 games into a new coaches tenure.

Opposition teams get a five-minute burst when they outscore us with a cluster of goals.
Need to put Balta down back again, in his element.
He used to play as a half-back line defensive interceptor.
Same thing happened last year when Balta was back anyway so it’s not like he would stop it

When it happens it’s off the back of our midfields lack of accountability

This year is about the future and for my money Balta as a forward/ruck has shown a lot more potential upside long term than as an intercepting back

There are two strategies.
Hardwick's strategy was the extra floating in defence, causing the turnover across half-back, due to high pressure and then rebounding.
I think we need to incorporate that at the moment.
Balta does not warrant staying forward, compared to plugging the gap, given the defence is depleted by injury.

Dow's not ready to be a full time inside mid and maybe never will be - we need to look at developing him in other positions like we did with Ross, he's got some serious toe, much much quicker than I thought he was which is a positive.

Was discussing it with a mate earlier today and i thought he made a valid point, develop him in another position and throw him into the midfield for short spurts like we used to with Edwards. Dow still needs work and development, but he has some tools to work with, drop him to the VFL and develop him as a high HF or even a wing. With his body type he'll never be big enough to play inside mid fulltime without getting worn down by bigger stronger bodies
But where else could you play him ?

Only applies if you think we are a genuine chance to win the flag this year

Do we flood every game and try and snag some ugly wins or actually play the style of game Yze wants to see us playing going forward in the future and developing players in the positions he sees them in that future?

We need a hybrid.
We need to be able to adapt, as Trent Cotchin would always say.
At the moment our defence is seriously depleted.
Defence rebound was the signature of our three premierships.
A rhetorical question.
What is the point of emphasising midfield clearance if the delivery is poor and turned over?

I gave you suggestions with the IF IF IF Alternative IF you had read my post so don’t say I was telling you what to do as this your error in basic comprehension. I told you these alternatives bc you seem to be dictating to posters what you expect from them. Don’t you like it when people behave like you and call you out on your poor behaviour? As for agitating posters you even start threads on what you expect from them.

DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO IS YOUR MOTTO AND IT FXXKING SUCKS .

Most of our scores from the weekend were on the back of rebound

Playing Balta back again just robs us of his development as a forward when we are already playing vlossy as a spare and he’s killing it and back to his 2017/2018 form

Even though I probably don't need to, allow me to sell you on the idea of Sonsie coming in to the AFL side this weekend.
  • In the match simulation, he was amongst our best players, hit the scoreboard and actually used it well.
  • He is clean which is something we desperately need more of at AFL level.
  • Natural footballer who typically makes the right decisions.
  • Gives us more options to rotate through the half forward line and midfield
  • After being unable to partake in any official pre-season games at either level, he was able to put in a performance where he was clearly second best on ground on the weekend against the reigning VFL premiers.
Straight in please.

No staging fine for Butters?
campaigner milked a 50 for zero contact to his head… not exactly the type of thing the afl would want in the current climate surrounding head knocks

But where else could you play him ?

Nowhere he is not afl standard. Never has been. Keep hearing how he’s going to be the big improver and take the competition by storm but he can’t even find the pill. It’s not like it’s his first year in system.

GAGF CFL club has to start doing something this is total bullshite

Went to the game today with no expectations of a win, just wanted to see a similar effort to what we dished up against Carlton because while the game plan may not be executed well, you can hang your hat on being in the contest and having a dip, instead of just being witches hats and gets mauled.

For the first 2 quarters we got that effort and intensity that allowed us to match it with Port and take a 2 goal lead into half time, some may say their poor conversion in the first quarter cost them, but even while they're missing, we've got to be in position to capitalize on it when we got our chances and we did just that.

Given our outs I thought we held on as long as we could before the flood gates opened in the second half, however it was pleasing that despite Port getting a run on in the first half of the 3rd quarter, we were able to fight back late and get it back to 7 points, before their class finally put us to the sword in the last and got them a comfortable win.

Changes for the Swans game:
Out - Grimes McIntosh Lefau Dow
In - Young Broad Sonsie McAuliffe

B: Broad Miller Young
HB: D.Rioli Vlastuin Short
C: Pickett Taranto Banks
HF: Campbell Bolton Mansell
F: Lynch Martin Balta
R: Nankervis Ross Baker
INT: Brown Trezise Clarke Sonsie McAuliffe

Put time and effort into developing the kids, keep an experienced core that can provide leadership, build for the future.

Glad you had the balls to name Grimes and KMac as out…I agree
If we want to move forward we need to make incremental changes in 2024
