Nick R I thought was smarter than giving 2Blues the votes as the Tigers 'don't rack up possessions' and 'are so even it's hard to pick 3 of them'.

Obviously didn't watch the game, jsut picked the votes from the stats sheet.

Not sure how far away Houli is or why the prognosis is on vlas
Give Vlas the week off, 2 concussions so close he needs the break before it is forced upon him.

Don't know how accurate it is, but someone said last night new guidelines mean he has to be fit 5 days out from the game, not sure if this is because it's his 2nd concussion, or applies to everyone this year.

If the defenders are going to struggle against McGovern and jack Martin in the air then id say its time to reintroduce one of the younger tall defenders.
Bring in Balta and bloody persevere we need a second kpd which would allow us to play Grimes on a nuicance like Martin.

There is absolutely no need for short in the team and fmd after the way Cripps monstered us we need to play some bigger bodies in the midfield.

We also dont need two lumbering ineffectual ruckman in the team. They should both be ashamed of themselves.
Ashamed of themselves...FMD

Your flogging a dead horse AGAIN, 22 v 22 is the game...who cares if million dollar man Jack Martin is a nuisance and a nice finisher but doesn't do the 1%ers and Cripps monsters us but butchers it straight back to the yellow and black.

More Carlton delusion, full quarters would have made the margin greater

I'm still reading through the thread and it's probably already been said but if the quarters had have been normal length we would have probably kicked around 6 more goals in the first half and the comeback would have only brought them back to around 35 points!!! But Carlton can believe whatever they want I guess :p

wouldn’t worry about the backs, apart from last year Carlton often score one of their higher scores in RD.1

2018 - highest score for the year
2017 - 3rd highest
2016 - 5th highest
2015 - 5th highest

as you mention no match practice, I think the fact some boys got preseason games meant compared to Nank and Graham forced our hand a bit. We need games into these two and no better time than against the Blues.

If games are forced into short time frames there will be a high turn over to get a lot of boys games.
It's not last night's game that worries me a bit about our backline, but just reckon without Rance we are a quality tall short. If McGovern had clunked a few last night, and he dropped one sitter right at the end, they were right in it. Nankervis is very good at getting back and helping as he reads it so well in the air, Soldo does not. CCJ would help in that regard and I can't see him out of the side for long. If Kreuser hadn't gone down, Casboult can clunk them as well. Vlastuin of course makes a big difference.

we just shouldn't have played Nank and Graham. Fit and firing no worries at all, but did we not learn from last year, it was a risk we didn't need to take.
CCJ and Ross would have been great...

Only catch now is, blokes who don't play in the 1's can't push their case for a call up, and when they do, they will be rusty due to no match practise
Had to play Nank because he is way better than Soldo and without the VFL he needs match practise. Will be much better for the hit out. Graham I've never been a great fan because he is quite slow, but again he will be better for the run.

Like most i love the fridge but I get nervous when he's played outside the guts

He is not good enough for the guts. Martin, Prestia, Cotchin, Edwards, Pickett and even Ross are far better in there. He is a limited player who needs full fitness to show his worth so will bet better as the season goes. Watch and see.

Our success is based on players with roles within the team to compliment the likes of Dusty etc.Broad isn't A grade material but i think you expect our players to be so.Never going to happen.
Balta atm hasn't got the capacity to even play a role like Broads.
I don't expect all of our players to be A graders, If that's the conclusion you draw from me criticising one player then you're not thinking rationally.
I'm all for having role players and I'm well aware that's an important facet of our system. My gripe is that Broad's role seems to be 'guarding space' rather than actually winning possession or effectively negating a player. If your bread and butter is filling a hole you're either a pornstar or you're a very limited footballer.
I'd prefer to see a rookie in there with a swag more talent gaining experience and getting a crack.

I agree,
Also I think while the games are shorter I think going back to just the one ruckman and having balta their to relieve will be better than the two conventional rucks.
Changes for next week would be nank out for balta and graham out for Ross.

Think we should be playing Balta. He has plenty of rough edges and will make mistakes but his size and athleticism are required. This year is a good opportunity to be pumping games into him when you consider it’ll probably end prematurely

Was thinking the same they were much better when Cadbault went into the guts.

Thought our bigs were average last night

after kroozer went down it made our 2 rucks lineup pointless (and nank isn't fit yet) plus arsebury was too slow for whoever he had to move onto, and kreuzer moves slower than maric did at the end of his career and was playing like shite. they should put him out to pasture

didn't help the defence that vlaustin then went out as well. arsebury losing casboult plus no vlaustin who roams around the 50m arc clunking marks wasn't good for us

Reading tje Carlton board. Some of them reckon soldo was pretty good getting back behind the ball. Late in the game.

Frustratingly so, for them.

I too would love to squeeze balta in somehow. His size. Pace. Kicking could be real handy

Without vlastuin (and rance) the back6 is a bit dodgy.

Short is the odd one out for mine

the same backline that kept the best teams in finals to relatively low scores?

First round games are often higher scoring then the rest of the season because teams haven’t had a chance to dissect new game plans and work out how to shut them down.

There is some concern with no Vlas and Houli but I’d back our guys in to make adjustments over the course of the season.

Also disagree on Soldo, took a handful of important intercept marks in last years finals. He’ll continue to improve. But I do want CCJ in the side sooner rather than later, he has A-grade potential.

Vlaustin as good as any going around in that role
