The journo said was it general soreness with Dusty and Mini said yeah just cumulative load.
Last night's game and next week's are the eight point games.

If we won against Melbourne, North and Power but lost these two we would almost certainly have just missed finals.

But if we had beaten Dogs, Saints and North only we would have almost certainly have made the 8.

Last week, was the opportunity for a free swing with kids, while resting Cotch, Dusty and Grimes (and maybe even Prestia) for these three must win games.

Cumberland, Sonsie and Brown should have been in against Melbourne.

How do they develop these young players watching from the stands last week with no VFL game, and how do we win last night without Martin, Cotchin and Grimes ?!?

Basic statistical analysis would have shown that the Melbourne game was irrelevant. It is clear that their is a lack of technical sophistication and leadership in our football department and coaches box and that the real talent has left the building before Dimma did and what remains is Disciples Under Dimma, or DUD's

Put simply, this lot clearly couldn't organise a sausage sizzle at the local fete, let alone teach a new way to cook them

Broad broom to sweep out the mediocrity is required ... coaching, fitness, medical and even list management and drafting has fallen off a cliff. ... an Intervention is nearly required.

The. Ew Richmond beyond in prime Cotchin , Reiwoldt, grimes has 5 issues that need to be addressed .
1. Speed
2. skills / decision making
3. ability to absorb pressure
4. Talls ruckmens / KPF’s ability to at worst bring ball to the ground
5. Willingness to compete and defend.

Given that there are some currently getting a game who IMO have little
Chance of playing in our next premiership and w add little going forward .
Tough calls need to be made .

Louie Meehan , Graham , Nankervis , young , hopper , grimes , Cumberland whilst the door is closing on McIntosh , broad , Vlaustin . Considering Jack and Cotch are gone
I’m a little more optimistic about some that are being questioned because they bring at least one of the above aspects to the table .
Bauer , banks, Miller, coulthard , Pickett needs to play inside mid and Mansell high forward .
Vlas broad and nank first game back from a spell are least of our concerns , focus needs to be on mids and tall forward ,,tbh there’s always decent mids spilling from good sides , coll have a few not getting a game

This game reminded me of our final against Port Adelaide after we scraped into the finals with all those wins on the trot. We believed we were on the way after Melbourne last week where we did play great football for a half, but it was papering over cracks.

In finals you need to lift a gear, and last night the Dogs knew we could be a threat if we were allowed to play with swagger, and they hit us with their best finals like football, which was a good deal better than ours, just like Port did all those years ago.

Our midfield was flat footed and slow. Libba is a terrier and having a great year, McCrae and Treloar very good players and Bont was just too good. Taranto and Hopper have no change of direction speed unlike someone like Cotchin who while not overly fast is (was) very quick around the ball. Thought Prestia was a bit better in that respect, but he had no mates in there. Bolton and Baker were okay but they are too small to impact the contest and rely on spillage, which the Dogs don't do.

And we had little spread from the contest. Graham and MacIntosh played their usual games against good players. Our best run and link player seemed to be Banks, who does what the others can't, use it really well. But we didn't get much springboard from the backline, which is usually a strong part of our game.

Our forward line is quite easily the worst in the league. Jack who wasn't too bad but very much a one trick pony these days, if he doesn't get it on a good lead, he doesn't get it, and a few undersized kids. A joke if it wasn't so predictable.

And I thought the umps did their usual hatchet job on us, gave us frees as far away from goal as possible too even up the ledger, some of which were crap, and did the opposite to the Dogs.
Good summary ,if we don’t have 5-6 new faces in by r1 next year we’re ****en kidding

nah hes wrong tarranto

and weve won 3 flags, what does he want us to be up forever ?

The guy got arm chaired to three flags. One of the worst records for games played and goals kicked for a forward in a premiership era. And he played when you could actually kick a score

We dont' have the cattle any more, and we don't have the fitness levels required to match it with the top teaifioied for ms. That means that we can play well in spurts, or as we saw in Cotch's 300th for one entire game, or last week v Dees, the first 3 quarters, but that's it. Every time we front up the week after one of those elevated intensity performances, we are completely spent. We are as slow as all get out. We can't lay tackles that stick and earn frees (alright, umps have a fair bit to do with that) anymore. Our pressure, and intensity in hunting the ball is not there anymore, but I'm sure that comes down to fitness. We just don't have the levels required for the repeat efforts. We used to be the hunter, but not anymore. Sides don't fear coming up against us anymore, because they know they will get first use of the footy, and be off and running before we realise it. Keep us running around chasing, and we are worn down quickly.
We have kept our ageing champs playing when form doesn't warrant it. Playing players out of position only robs Peter to pay Paul as they say, and that only results in sapping the confidence. We used to have guys that could come in and fill a role when our champs were injured or rested, and they wouldn't miss a beat. Now the well is dry. No surprise this week that Cotch and Grimes rested/dropped, but what the hell's with Dusty being 'managed'? Do or die match, and we just roll over. We needed to be more ruthless in our selections last year, but loyalty and or stubbornness got in the way.
Bachar was still playing great footy when tapped. Grigga was playing fine when tapped, but the older guys now are just too slow and banged up to warrant selection. For those about to cry out that we owe them respect etc, and to be allowed to go out at their own choice, well we are about to find out what happens when you wait too long and have everyone bow out at the same time. Because that day is coming fast! Grimesey another contracted year, spare me! Co-captains who are not up to it, spare me! As a club, taking the inconsistency in how we are umpired, week in week out, spare me! Mismanaged injuries, and poor fitness, spare me! Mini for the job, spare me! We need someone who can make sure our players are fit, switched on, and have the hunger to succeed. We may have been the destination club that everyone wanted to play for, and maybe that just resulted in players coming in and just expecting to be taken along for the ride. Well guess what, success doesn't come without effort and the desire. It's tough getting to the top and harder staying there, and just being allowed to retain your spot on average performances week in week out, regardless of reputations, doesn't cut it. We are in for a heap of pain, so we better just accept that a complete sweep out and rebuild is about to happen.
Bachar was injury riddled in his last seasons but wanted to play on. Grigga career ending injury after not playing a game in his last year. Got beatified for freeing up a list spot.

Edwards was not playing well in his last year.
Mini said Dusty was not fit to play, Cotch should've been rested more but at least they're not injured.
With you on the resigning of Grimes for 24. Nank seems to have dialled the tackling & chasing the pill quite a bit.
A new coach, other than Mini will have ideas

The fitness complaint is probably unwarranted. I think vs the Dogs we out ran them in all 10 categories. We don't play good footy.

I wrote in the pregame that if Gawn and Grundy don't work, Nank and Soldo sure as hell won't.

Felt bloody obvious to me. Sometimes it feels like a bit of common sense team selection by random bigfooty fans could pick a better side than the match committee.

Saw him on TV saying Dusty is following Dimma to gold coast. When pressed where he'd heard this he replied nowhere it's just a my opinion.

Love it. The guys contracted so if he has so much mail he’d know what the proposed trade is.

What does winning three flags have to do with Taranto and hopper?
thats what the campaigner said, that tarranto is an average player and that we are going nowhere

when you have just won 3 flags youre gonna come down eventually

Was worried we were in for a long rebuild but now convinced we aren’t far away. McClure was talking Blues up in the DP days
McLure also said of Dusty: "He's just a B grader"
