Not used to the weather and injuries unfortunately, just wasn’t our day, everything that could go wrong went wrong.

Overall pretty strong performance, skills from both teams were shocking. Just had the fresher legs in the end

It’s round 1, time to move on. Real season starts in September
We also like to shit our bed in September.

mate is you are hoping for something special from dixon you are dreaming

Mate, I would’ve thought quite a few supporters would’ve got themselves a reality check about the importance of Dixon tonight. All 3 key forwards were very poor tonight and for me the key reason we lost.

I think I’ve finally lost my patience with Marshall. Soft as butter tonight.

Charlie at least has a crack.

Yes and no I was proud of our effort. Those that put in busted their guts. 10-2 free kick count in the last I wonder whose way... mmmm let me think.

In a strange way more +'s than -'s but I'd need time to explain that. Too emotional atm. That's code for way too angry to be rational.
I'd say there's more +'s mainly because we were all so pessimistic about the game. If we went into this, thinking we could win then it would be a lot more negatives.

I mean really, we expected the whole game to be like the 4th quarter. When it wasn't, hey bonus.

Rozee is sh*t and won't make it. Don't @ me.
He'll make it at a side with a better forward system and he can use his talent to get on the end of good work by his team a few times every game.

As a Port Adelaide midfielder? Lol no. Makes Wingard look like peak Ablett.

Some Dodgy umpiring and key injuries might have cost port the four points, but a win only would have papered over cracks that need to be addressed anyway.

It’s like we hang our giant beak out there begging our opponent to swing a haymaker, then are surprised when they connect, then repeat cause surely it won’t happen again.

Dixon gets smashed against Brisbane anyway. They know how to play him. The second key position defender engages with Dixon and Harris gets a free run at it and kills the contest. And he makes sure to smash the ball away. Its never spoiled to the ground around the contest, its always smashed 20m away.

Dan Houstons 36d 2g, and Boaks 32d (19 contested) and 1g, have a long way to go to be as good as the average Petracca or Oliver game.

Give him another contract!
Houston and Boak played well tonight but they are miles away from Petracca and Oliver week after week.
Not to mention Lycett tonight compared to your average Max Gawn game.

no it was a complete failure to kick 2-3 goals in the last that cost us.

Not a good day to be a Marshall.
I've seen girls in a mosh pit at a Hidden Intent concert hit the pack harder and have more of an impact.

I am being 100% honest.

Drop Bearsare more real than his intensity.

That said, he had nothing to do with tonight's loss. That was on the coaching and that it has been unable to develop an inside 50 strategy after all these years

Tonight was the loss that confirms to me it's not worth wasting any mental energy on this team this year.

It is simply going to disappear and disappoint when it matters

I'm torn between ripping in and losing a game that we were 4 goals up in and put in an absolute limp effort in that last quarter, or going easy because we were two players down and had others limping around.

Drew stuffing up the inside 50 then Allir dropping a mark he was 40m on his own for and giving up a goal will be the 20 seconds of football that will sum up our year, mark it down. Absolute shitshow.

Our forward line was horrendous. Absolutely horrendous, yet we somehow nearly kicked a winning score. Our midfield were excellent for three quarters. Our backline were also excellent for three quarters.

Houston, what a star. Hope he's in for the year he's been threatening to provide for a few years now. Stunning performance. Should have been chaired off the ground had we won.

DBJ also a monster performance. His best game since 2020. Excellent statement.

Jonas was good, Boak was good, Ollie was good, Amon was very good, Drew and SPP were good.

Burton had moments, as did Jones, as did Motlop and Butters, even though his desire to handball into trouble was highly frustrating.

The rest.....sigh.

Rozee. Honestly, that was just crap. I don't care if he came in under done, or under a bit of an injury cloud. If you are out there you need to do more than get 2 ****ing kicks. His pained faces, feigning injury, faux limping after EVERY - ****ING - CONTEST he's involved in is ridiculous. I love him, but he's soft. He's not soft in terms of squibbing or backing out of contests. He doesn't. But he seems unable to play through pain or is very easily hurt. The 30 pained faces, limps etc. every game has grown really tired. If you don't want to play a contact sport then go play golf.

Marshall. What was it, 1 kick to 3/4 time. With Dixon out. Absolute pants performance. Must do better. That level of performance is unacceptable. We can put Lord in there and get the same output.

Finlayson. Underwhelming. Just not a scoring threat at all.

Lycett. Looked like a 45yo hobbling around out there.

McKenzie. Hopefully its not a long termer. But jeez he wasn't very good when he was out there.

Meady was ok in his debut. A bit vanilla. Must find space a bit more, but liked his skills. Worth perservering with for a little while.

Just such a deflating result. We played alright, got well in front then still managed to lose. Deflating.

That's about as tough as a minor round loss as your going to get, the players gave their all but were out on their feet in humid conditions.
The 4 points would have softened the blow of losing Dursma and sadly McKenzie who you think is likely done for the year with other players banged up during the night also.

Sadly the difference was Daniher who kicked 4 but would of had 5 if he had of goaled on half time and could have had 7 if he kicked straight. Their other tall forward kicked two goals with their Ruckman getting one in the last quarter. We just don't have the height in our backline to stop such players, height gets us everytime, year in year out.

Hinkley has no choice now but to make a backman out of Marshall, we aren't going to get a Daniher like performance out of him up forward so why not see what he can do down back, he has height and reach, needs to bulk up obviously.

On the positives I thought that Drew and Butters were fantastic, Jones had a top game down back.

Bring that effort every week and clean up some skill errors which both teams had and I won't have many complaints.

Injuries had not much part in that. We didn't appear to be suffering fitness issues from lack of rotations, etc.

We just shat the bed.

Spending more time on the ground and increasing the time you play while the other team is able to recycle their players isn't a fitness issue, it's more of a biological issue? Come on people! I know we are disappointed but let's be for real.

Houston excellent

Boak wines drew Bonner Dbj Jonas burton butters Amon all decent.

Butters found a bit of it but wasteful. Bonner had a couple of bad moments but lots of great stuff as well. Jonas strong defensively but offered nothing else. Burton did a strong job. Dbj did well.

Jones was a mix of good and horrendous.

Everyone else was bad.

Alir injured so can give him a pass

Gray rozee Marshall finlayson Georgiades motlop all bad. Not surprising they all are forwards. Marshall couldn’t get involved. Georgiades missing all game bar a couple of minutes. Finlayson was incapable of having any influence forward or in the ruck.

Robbie gray is completely cooked and we are carrying him for brief moments of brilliance he might give.

Lycett has to take worst on ground honours. Got absolutely smacked. Even lions second ruck got more hitouts than him. Mcinerny not just got his hands to the ball more often than lycett, but actually managed to hit the ball clearly to his teammates when he did which lycett seems to avoid like it’s forbidden.

Lycett then had zero influence around the ground. Oscar mc and Darcy fort had 3 and 4 marks v lycetts 1. He didn’t present or contest down the line. Didn’t float forward. Watched his opponent go off him and take uncontested marks.

We are not talking about a young player who is learning. Lycett is a senior well paid 29yr old player.

He has to be dropped. We cannot allow that effort to stand when we have a ready to play ruck on the sideline.
Gray completely cooked? Carn. Hurt his knee early in the first.

On a positive we don’t have to go to that shitty ugly ass oval again this home and away season
Not that I've ever been there but based on TV witness I have to say that the venue experience did not impress me in the slightest. Playing a bunch of kids pop ass Disney songs between goals really made me tune out.

True but it's sad that we know how the movie ends at three quarter time.
