Autopsy Round 12 - Positives & Negatives vs Carlton

TV commentary was surprisingly mostly impartial compared to most weeks, or at least it sounded that way to me.
Except when they talked about all the great vic players to come out of st Joseph's and forgot to call the game for a whole minute .

HEdwards took a great contested mark on the wing out numbered and Carlton would have been out .

Simpson rarely shows aggression at 3 quarter time when the game is in the balance.........we typically loose

Yeo gets angry at 3 quarter time and shows some mongrel and fires up the boys.........we duly win

Might almost be something in that

He did have a terrible game. He was consistently out of position and should be dropped for Vardy next week.
Yep terrible game . He has zero footy IQ.

WTF was he thinking tapping the ball back in from the boundary in the pocket to 3 Carlton players and 0 Eagles.

We went from having a deep forward 50 stoppage to a goal against .

Richmond use pickett as their 2nd ruck and chol as their main ruck . Recon Oscar can cover this week as 2nd ruck and cover forward and back

Positives
Loved the young brigade, all had an impact
- L. Edwards was very impressive, he's got a future
- Foley was very good, really liked his game. Got caught once, but otherwise everything else was really good. Great goal.
- H. Edwards was brilliant outmarked McKay early and then was simply outstanding.
- O'Neill was pretty good, nice goal. Hopefully he can stay in the team and build.
- Yeo gets clearances operating in a phone box, he simply adds so much to our team.
- Gaff, Sheed and Redden were all outstanding
- Ryan, he looks such a better player as a deep fwd. Love seeing him play today, missed his quality.
- Hurn the old general patrolling the back, so good

Negs
- Sheppards concussion
- Nelson, thought this year he'd really lock down a spot. If it wasn't for injuries, not sure he'd get a game.

This is not true. They use Coleman-jones who is 200cm and 102kgs.

My interest rate is sh*t because of Simmo.

That's legit.

Your interest rate is shit coz your mortgage broker saw you skipping leg day 5 weeks straight and knew you're an easy target.

He's been OK, but was poor today. That tap was glaring and just silly. But the advantage of winning is the learning experiences come with 4 points.

I'm not sure Vardy offers more, so he probably stays in.

Good win in the end, all i wanted to see was effort today given who we had out, took them a while to get rolling and they stuck at it, and no it doesn't change my mind on them being a serious threat, but having a red hot go is all you can ask.

Positives

Redden- Was composed with ball in hand, and my wife remarked he seems to play better with Yeo in the team, she is pretty much on the money
Edwards- Kid looks like he has the goods, never seem flustered out there, keep him in the team
Nic- We are truly stuffed in the middle when he goes.
Ryan- Heading back to AA form, no one is better than him with ball in hand
Backline- Stood strong in the first half when the midfield bludged a bit.
JJ- Has to stay in the team before Langdon and Petch

Negatives

Nelson- You can guarantee he is going to **** it up at some point, i cringe any time he gets the ball, if he is not tagging then he should not play
Petch- He goes MIA far to often and for a guy with so much leg speed, he should have far more run down tackles than anyone in this team, his 2nd efforts are poor, not only today but most weeks.
Williams- Had a shocker today, but i want him to stay in the team, Nic ain't going to be there for ever and he has the tools just needs some continuous game time. He's not learning anything the WAFL.

Williams needs simple focus points (like JD). Seems to get a little lost at times.

Also seems to have lapses in concentration....Has the ball in his hands then drops it and stands there, not following through with tackles, getting pushed off the ball too easily etc.

I’m glad that people are finally realising that we screw ourselves over when we play Williams over Vardy.
Vardy is like a big old oil tanker. Takes forever to get up to speed but when he gets momentum is our clear best back up ruck. In 2018 he was better than Lycett. Great signs by him in WAFL in the last few weeks. No brainer in this week.

Ok every campaigner settle down please.

Bailey has been more than serviceable in the games he's played up until now. He was awful, but it's his first bad game.

What's the alternative? Bring back delist fodder dinosaur Vardy to waste everyone's time? Throw concussed Oscar straight back in there?

Bailey would be learning from every game he plays. Jones has taught many oppo forwards a lesson over the years and today was one of those clear days.

No need to abandon our developing KPP/Ruck due to one bad game. Give him the opportunity to bounce back. He had the 2nd best defender today.

+ves
- Yeo seems to be demanding the midfield to lift with him, Redden responded
- JJ showed why he is our number 1 small forward
- Fly is getting back to his pre-injury best
- Gaff and Sheed looked better not having to get the hard ball
- the Edwards boys looked composed

Surprises
- XON and Langdon actually got better as the game went on, or was it that Carlton ran out of legs?
- does the SCG actually suit us, providing we aren't playing Sydney?

-ves
- Williams looked completely lost. He had no idea on the smaller ground
- Waterman missed his chance
- tackling still needs to improve

Good synopsis - JJ must be given automatic inclusion. His pressure is very important to a side that has not liked doing the hard stuff.

Unfortunately, we actually need a player that will provide a contest in the ruck and give something to the team, not some 21 year old ranga with a shit arm tattoo that keeps dropping every goddamn marking attempt he makes.

Vardy provides far more than Williams, and will rightly come in this week.

I propose an amended version of the grass always being greener on the other side of the fence: for this board, the ruck is always better when they're out of the team.

Take a seat chief

Bring back a player we're about to delist over our young KPP we've put time and development into for...

Less disposals
Less marks
Less contested possessions
Less metres gained
Less score involvements

Other than that it's about par for the course. Replace a 21yr old with a 30yr old.

For what? Couple extra hitouts?
