Autopsy Round 13, 2021: St.Kilda v Adelaide

Rugby has over the years banned many types of tackles that were once considered legal. It is now 100% the responsibility of the tackler to ensure that the person tackled is not harmed through poor tackle technique. There are NO accidents.

The only defense that McKay has is that they were both equally positioned to contest the ball. And I don’t think that is the case.

The velocity at which McKay enters the contest suggests he is coming from further back and so in my mind he is the one with the duty of care. It is completely reasonable to say that Clark should be expecting contact in that situation. But the contact needs to be crafted in a way that does not lead to injury.

McKays technique is reckless at best and injurious at worst.

I get it.

I reckon Ross could do a lot with this list though.

Main thing is I want Ratten gone. Sooner rather than later. It was a nice story... time to move on. I don't care what he's "owed" for last year. I care about us winning a flag.

It makes sense though.

StKilda’s long time absence of success can simply be put down to sticking with coaches for too long & not making reactive, premature & rushed decisions.

Ratts head on a pike please!

They are in the top 3 for accuracy pretty much every year. Maybe when I can be arsed I'll see how far back it goes.
There's no way they win that game if they don't kick all those goals from 40+ out. It's not rocket science. Compared to us it's like AFL to VFL seconds. And that's without considering our poor field kicking and turn overs.

Of course they hate the Saints. Just wait for Clarke to get weeks for head butting. You know that’s what they want.

When you say they, you are really saying Steve Hocking. Listening to fox last night apparently Mr Hocking rubber stamps every decision from the tribunal before the decision goes ahead. He has made himself into judge, jury and executioner. God help us when he takes over as emperor, er i mean CEO.

I'm not talking about history.

I'm just talking about ratts.

I don't think he's the man for job.

I guess we'll see how it all plays out.

Well they made no decision in this case.

Sorry, I have no idea what you are saying.
Are you saying Melbourne was correct in sacking Smith or incorrect in sacking him?

Because Melbourne clearly went worse with a different coach - and largely the same players - it must have been the coach who made the difference.

Maybe the same is true at St Kilda in 2021? Or for that matter at Collingwood or Carlton in 2021?

Re: The heat map on our kick ins to the RHS. I believe that this is our default position when all other options are closed and not our only option ( No way in a professional organisation there would only be one option for kick ins)

My firm belief is that our players don't work hard enough to provide alternate options or they are not willing to take the risks required to get an advantage i.e. when challenged strongly they default to preservation mode.

Good teams take lots of calculated risks. IMO we play far too safe; far too often. TRUST is the word that springs to mind. I don't believe our players trust each other enough and until this changes we are just going to be treading water.

Well he actually didn’t though. Had one foot on the ground and the other off the ground because that’s how humans run.
Had he have been going for the ball in that instance, both heads would have collided, he did have both feet just off the ground at impact and his head and body were facing away from the ball at impact.

No his feet came off the ground because of the impact. Why do both heads have to be in the same position going for the ball? I don’t get that at all. What confuses me is now the amount of afl media people thinking it’s a just a footballing incident.

What the same thing he did for Freo in 16, 17, 18 and 19? Absolutely nothing?

This whole narrative that Lyon will fix the team like he did when he first came to us and to Freo is based on an assumption that we have a list anywhere near those two teams.
Fact is he walked into both clubs when they had very decent lists.
His last 4 years with a poorer list is what you would be looking at.

Unless McKay had arms 2 metres long, he wasn't going for the ball, he stopped going for the ball and went for impact at the last moment.

Instead of going on about this, We should be more concerned with how our team holds the opposition to a scoreless quarter and then coughs up a 36 point advantage, and how Steele and Couch get huge amounts of possessions yet the Crows midfield won on the night. We might kick players up the backside, but Ratts and his mates need a big kick up the kyber too.

It’s coming quickly. More and more jumping on board. Anyway how has the new coach worked out after we needed a new coach last time. Obviously not good in more and more opinions but hey let’s do the same thing again. You know it’s a sign of madness. A new coach fixes everything.

Apparently getting us to finals for the first time in yonks doesn’t count.
I’m not saying he’s the messiah, but he’s certainly not going to be given the flick for next season. Even the harshest critic must admit there are some extenuating circumstances this year. Some. Not saying there isn’t still a lot of improvement needed.
And hopefully, no matter how we’re going next year they don’t sign him too early. He’s not going to be stolen away from us.
