Autopsy Round 13, 2024: Positives and Negatives vs North Melbourne

Hey guys fun game to watch today, notice a lot of you blaming the umpires when you were kissed on the dick for a large amount of the day.

Interested if this looks like a free kick to you? I know WC fans are some of the most one eyed in the universe but keen for your objective opinions
Who is number 0 from north, this pic is doctored, photoshopped.. One eyed enough?
Lol
Just gonna add there was some intersting umpiring decisions all around today.. Both sides..

Almost seemed A training ground for new interpretations of the holding the ball rule, quick whistle etc. Two shit sides who would even notice.....

Our eagles weren't clean enough to even the ledger when the game was to be won..
And when the chance came... pls for the life of me somebody explain the yeo holding the ball...

Ive played alot of footy myself but i just felt confused watching today. North clearly deserved the win but i do worry about the integrity of umpiring.
The AFL brand is king it seems, whatever they tell u it is..........

Culley, Chesser and Ginbey today were worse than sheed and gaff who were serviceable.

Take out sheed and gaff and who replaces them? We don’t have the depth right now.

Need at least one more high draft pick and Elijah hewett back to cover them

Best players Yeo, McGovern, Barrass, Waterman

Sorry totally disagree (with the Sheed and Gaff assessment, not with our depth being poor, with you there)

Ginbey was great, not his smoothest game but aside from Yeo the only mid that actually threatened to both win good clearances and provide physicality/chase defensively in there.

Culley I thought was better than probably the consensus on here (I'm biased I like him!) but for someone just as slow as Sheed he stuck some big tackles, competed in the air and had a presence in his first game back at AFL level after an ACL - happy enough.

Chesser wasn't great but being at the ground (and the standard of footy so low that I was often just watching running patterns rather than the debacle around the ball) he at least covered well defensively, North couldn't really go through him as an option, unlike Sheed and Gaff.

The thing that absolutely stood out for me today with Sheed in particular is that the North players just knew they could run around him - if they had the ball and he was the one closest to 'apply pressure' you could see them actively taking all the time in the world (or just run around him if they were half quick). His lack of defensive pressure outside direct stoppages resulted in a good portion of their very few clean transition plays for the day. Just cannot afford that in the modern game.

There was one contest late in the second half where Sheed lost the one-on-one just outside our attacking 50, and literally stood still and pointed while their player ran away with it, as well as another of ours + their opponent, leaving it to be a 2 on 1 that they 1-2 handballed around with ease before delivering it forward. Gutless and deflating for both supporters and probably teammates to watch. Culley is similarly slow, sure, but he at least never stopped chasing when he needed to to at least apply enough pressure that their kick would be rushed enough. Gaff was better in this regard and I'd honestly be keeping him in over Sheed but I'd still rather have a Harvey Johnston in and be losing because he's not quite yet up to the pace vs losing because the pace has gone past Gaff.

It's a development year and guys like Cripps and Hunt who aren't in our top players and probably won't be around for our next tilt still clearly look like they're contributing to the development of guys around them - I cannot see that with Gaff and Sheed. Sheed out this week, Gaff the week after.

A dark day. Losing to the bottom team at home when we looked like we were starting to make it uncomfortable for visiting teams again. A shit couple of weeks. Glad the bye is up next.

Positives
  • Hutch looks like a fun player to watch
  • Yeo and Flynn played well when they got angry (for about 20 minutes)
  • Ryan had a crack in the last quarter
  • Hough's great run continues

Negatives
  • There are too many Hutch types in the forward line already
  • Yeo and Flynn were awful for the rest of the match
  • Ryan was run down by their ruckman in the last quarter
  • So many insipid second efforts once a contest was lost. Check out Tom Cole in the last goal. Do they even do video reviews after the game?
  • This week we made Fisher, Simpkin and Wardlaw look like All Australians. Other teams must love playing against us.

Ah well, that was terrible, although at least we had a good 20 minutes in the last quarter. Told my son he’d see a miracle and we did, but then we still lost.

Didn’t think this game would be worse than last week, but here we are. Any neutrals unlucky to watch need bleach for their eyes now.

AFL is a terrible league. Go Eagles, but screw everyone else.

As horrible and disgusting as that umpiring was - we’re all ****ing embarrassed aren’t we?

Just lost to Norf. At home. The team we all jeer into administration.

I’m sure we’ll learn from it and lean on our leaders and build synergy though.
we suck again GIF

Negatives: Without Reid we see how starkingly obvious is it that Simmo hasn't coached this SQUAD to play good footy. He's been relying on a couple stand out players doing everything for him. He needs to go, we need an actual coach that's interested in developing the whole SQUAD, not just relying on a handful of players (anyone that knows anyone close to the players is aware of this). We can't let this approach destroy all the young talent we have coming through. Please move him on, immediately.

To be fair wardlaw is a genuine superstar in the making.

Positive:
Jake Waterman might just be one of the best players in the AFL? What a rise from the great man - incredible amount of hard work he has put in to get to this point.

With 2 weeks before the next game, the coaches need to coach the crap out of Maric and teach him how to play a position, any position, up the ground and use his weapons.

Going to watch YouTube clips of O’Sullivan and Draper now.

There’s a lesson in not giving any team a three quarter head start.

There’s a lesson in not kicking 2.15

AFL intervention got them over the top when their nuts were on the line. Nobody’s fault but our own that was even an option.

Elliot Yeo is very good, got my tip right, feel that covers anything resembling a positive.

Away we go.
My biggest gripe with this game was the eerily sickening similarities that we were forced to watch in 2021.

Our players don't seem to turn up when we face the roos and the fans are then left frustrated with a talented team, lose another 4 points.

Can all blame Simo for the Roos kicking out to a lead, maybe he's supposed to throw magnets around?
Maybe our team kicks goals instead of points - leading straight out or on slight angles instead of hard against the boundary line?
It's the same shit. No TK and JW last week (we could have beaten Saints). No TK and HR and we lose to the worst team in the AFL.

Umpiring standards are dropping each year. 4 of them out there and they continually miss calls or blow the whistle for the odd 50/50.
Both Clay Hall and Zane Trew were reported in the WAFL. Our depth will once again be tested as we face the Bombes away.

For the love of all things that are good and grand, we need to recruit another bull like Yeo.

frustrating game and the bye could not have come any later. Shambles.

Ginbey will be fine, easy to forget how young he is and it’s unfair to compare him to a prodigy like Reid.
He’s developing nicely and gives everything a red hot crack.

Eh. We had direct comparison between Ginbey and his direct peers in Sheezel and Wardlaw.

Ginbey showed flashed of some really good footy. Sheezel and Wardlaw played key roles their team.

I think that’s the difference most are pointing to, and it’s a valid point.

I get that as a Hungry Jack’s franchise established in 1987 that also plays football that some of you may not grasp the rich history of the comp. Actively jeering for another side to go into administration cos we’ve had a shit few years is just putrid tbh. Have a bit of class and basic human decency. Most of you are salivating over priority picks yet we’ve explicitly said we won’t be applying?

Bad luck today, but the karma bus has collected a few of you on here, just like Yeo collected Wardlaw’s head twice just before he collected the ball, dragged it in and got pinged.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.

You should consider reading up about the rich history of your own football club. From day dot you've been a bunch of tin rattlers crying about the VFL/AFL/Universe being so unfair to you.

Jeering you into administration? That was very obviously tongue in cheek. But lets be honest, if Norf folded nobody would shed a tear. You add nothing to the comp.

Since when does karma involve interpretation of made up afl game rules?

Freeloading off other clubs indefinitely is a karma causing event which, I guess, north are paying for. Having Reid is our just karmic reward for keeping your club afloat.

I am sure Kane will come out and defend her bum child.

As for jeering for another side to go into admin, EVERYONE else does and wishes your club to fold. Heck your own fans don’t want to watch you.

Back to establishment and age of club, let’s see who becomes older before they fold. Era of cheap money is over, which is only thing that kept north in it.

Because SOME people compared them doesn’t mean it’s true or correct.

Ginbey is obviously a very different player to those two and is developing at a different rate, which is totally fine, at least he is developing and getting a spot in the starting 18 every week on merit.
