Jones shoulder isn't quite right and he was average in the WAFL hitout. Also note the WAFL hitout was against not only Perth but also with Perth missing a lot of their best players.

Burgiel played himself into the game, wasn't amazing but is close. Maric built into the game but was dead average. We don't need an extra tall.

I would prefer Dewar to play a full game at WAFL level after missing the match as the travelling emergency last week. If he's fit enough I would prefer Hall as the sub but probably still needs at least 1 full preseason WAFL match. Johnston although he played alright it looked like the step up to WAFL level is about where he is atm and needs time to build there.

TBH I think it's just Chesser in for Gaff but there really isn't a lot of great options for a sub. Particularly if the sub has to come on early. For me I would have either Burgiel or Hall as the sub with the aim being to bring them on halfway through the third quarter. Trew I left out of calculations as I don't think he is an impact player. I'd probably lean towards Hall depending on how he pulled up after 3 quarters as I really don't trust Coby's hamstrings yet. I'd rather get 3-4 full WAFL games into him before bringing him up a level.

The only other real option is Rotham which I really hope is a path the club don't go down. If it's hard running up and down the wing on the proviso to move the ball on quickly, it's a very low maybe.

Hall hadn't missed a session all preseason until that little injury so I'm hoping he's got a fitness base there already. He is my pick for sub. Chesser into Gaffs spot, Gaff into Halls WAFL spot.

I’m assuming the AFL commission met Monday and made the decision, and Dillon passed the ultimatum down to Pyke who passed it on to Simpson.
You obviously didn't get the memo.

When Pyke is not sitting on his hands, he's picking the side as well.

Word on the street is he will be taking training this week.

Presumably with the board meeting at the same time to oversee it, so they can weigh in on selection.

Thanks for the reality check on WAFL form.
Hall is interesting based on earlier form (pre season as it was). With Hough, we should note that no team playing two Harvey boys has ever lost a premiership.

Sheed who has yet to play a game and is listed as 4-5 weeks away from being available for selection?
I was trying to be funny....

Compare that to the disinterested nugget up forward who put himself on leave due to doctors orders then magically healed just when his income was about to be cut.
Now let's be quite clear here. Darling has been the far better player for longer.
If you took a macro perspective on their two careers Dixon has looked much more disinterested than Darling for the vast majority of their careers. Darling averages 39 goals a year whereas Dixon averages 25 goals a year. Also, and this should be considered, Dixon has 9cm on Darling.
Darling has his faults but a lot of a key forwards deficiencies come to the forefront when the midfielders are not winning the ball at the coalface and distributing well.
The other insinuations of your remarks regarding COVID protocols are largely immaterial to Darling's form.
By all means criticise Darling's performances, make comparisons to Dixon's output in the same game. Just make the criticism relevant.

Duff asked Gavin Bell who impressed in the WAFL hitout and he basically listed everyone by name except JJ..
Would love one question to anyone at the club about where JJ is at… feel like we have a player every year who just fades into obscurity and this year it’s Jones’ turn. And naturally it’s the player I decide to sponsor :/

Darling unfortunately wont be dropped only due to his size at CHF. Gaff will not play for WCE AFL side again unless for injury. WCE need to get games into the young guys even if it means we get thumped a few times.

My changes would be.

Out: Gaff, L.Edwards, Witherden
In: Chesser, Burgiel, Jones

I don't think Witherden will be dropped but has to make way for Jones as he's too slow and is a liability with the ball now and his disposal is too predictable and he doesn't take risks and if he does, it usually fails rather than sometimes.

L.Edwards, as composed as he can be, against faster team's he isn't quick enough to give him the extra time to compose himself and is too slow running defensively.

We know Gaff will be dropped and Priddis Is Done should change his name to "Gaff Is Done" since he looks even more cooked than Priddis in his final year.

Having those three in would greatly help with the team's speed since it's been lacking and it will help in defending transitions and with rebounding.

I did notice that but I think he may have been focusing on the younger players - mentioned Burgiel, Baker, Maric, Barnett, Williams, Johnston and Hall

Along with Jones, Rotham and Trew didn’t crack a mention. Nor did Livingstone or Rawlinson

Gaff has to go (not convinced he will), Chesser into the team.

I just don’t see it with Edwards. Decent enough skills but too slow. Would like to see him replaced by Hall but not sure Hall is ready after missing a chunk of preseason. Could be sub but he probably needs a full game at WAFL.

We need some drive off the backline so would prefer JJ in sooner rather than later but he may not be ready/ have done enough. Witho the obvious victim if so in due course.

Darling’s form has stunk for a long time but delivery has been terrible to our forwards and not sure who offers more. Maybe Maric (who I like a lot) but he needs to find some form still it seems. I would persist with Darling for a week or two and see if he improves.
Why are campaigners insistent on persisting with Darling, he's been like this for three ****ing years! How much longer you wanna give him. ****ing credits.

But he takes away key defenders from Allen thats one reason....and if you get rid of him then it's basically Allen up forward

Young Jack Williams is okay but still a bit too young for me as a key position forward

We can't use Bailey up forward as we wanted to because Flynn is injured and we have no ruck

Yes I can understand your frustration for Jack but until we can get someone else Jack has to play that role up forward

Personally, I would have dropped him last year but given this was first game of the year and he potentially still offers something (unlike Gaff where the game has 100% gone past him) and maric’s form has been poor and Bailey is in the ruck, I can see and accept another week or so. But very thin ice.

I commented last year Darling looked cooked and the game may have gone past him too but accepted injury may have played a part. But if he doesn’t perform this week, I would drop him.

All that said, I am not convinced they will, but also thought they would persist with Gaff too, so who knows.
