Seniors should have a good hard look at themselves….needed more leadership out there

We were led by the kids…play them…drop seniors
I think this has been a pretty constant observation of the senior players for a few years sadly. The kids are exciting but the seniors need to lead by example and give the kids the role models they need to feel that Tiger grit and determination. We have long been a confidence club and it is in losses that the seniors need to lead to help the kids keep their chins and importantly their enthusiasm up.

Our seniors don’t get mentioned in the same breath as the ‘stars’ of the comp - the brownlow contenders, the Coleman contenders, the Harris Andrewses etc - and that sort of works in our favour because the media don’t have one or two individuals to hang shit on when we lose games. It’s also kind of unfair because on balance Nank is about as good a ruck as Tom de koning, and a fully fit Tom lynch however rarely sighted would kick bags on anybody.

Reckon that’s part of the reason korn went all in on Taranto and hopper - he wanted to paint these gws 2019 grand final level players as people we thought would be the next superstar mids, whereas no one except maybe dimma thought they would be.

If you put a gun to my head and forced me to make changes for the Saints game, this is what I'd go with.

Out: Fawcett (omitted), Banks (concussion), Tresize (omitted), Smith (omitted)
In: Lynch, Sonsie, McAuliffe, Smilie (if ready to go)

We need a different look in the middle.
I'd have Taranto spending the majority of his time in the forward line. I know it's not what we got him for and he might not be happy about it, but it's what the team needs.
I don't think there's a clear player that Kamdyn needs to tag this week so I'd throw him back on a wing or make him the sub.
I think we need to get Trainor more involved so I'd move him up to a wing.

FB: Vlastuin - Blight - Broad
HB: Short - Miller - Brown
C: Trainor - McAuliffe - Sonsie
HF: Lalor - Armstrong - Taranto
FF: Mansell - Lynch - Campbell
FOL: Nank - Hopper - Ross
INT: Green - Dow - Bauer - Smilie
Sub: McIntosh

Something like this I feel would be interesting.
We need to draft a high quality tap ruckman eventually. I know there's one that's rated as a top prospect this year.

sonsie played well in the vfl but i don't see where he fits into the afl side that i'd prefer him in over others

not fast or intense enough to be a small forward

not my first choice for a wingman or hbf

and not a mid in front of lalor, smillie, even ross/kmac2/(campbell i'd like to see) and then next year our next 2 draft picks + hotton

i just don't know what afl level traits he has that the others don't have, his kicking? it's not out of this world especially under pressure, plus our kids actually have good kicks as well

34 disaposals, 10 clearances, but 1 tackle, not what we need, gotta tackle. i think sonsie will forever be a vfl merchant unfortunately

obviously you have to reward form but for me if mansell is out, i'd like to see alger

unluckily fawcett out for lynch since fawcett isn't 2nd rucking

and for banks i'd rather move ross to the wing and have mcauliffe replace him

my dream change for banks would be trainor to the wing, kaleb smith to start hbf, kmc2 to midfield and dow/kmac1 sub i guess lol

i'm the biggest fan of smillie but if he needs another week then fine, but if not, unlucky dow

I really like trezise and love seeing him on the field but yeah replace him on the wing. I didn’t see him there during the match, only saw him desperately scrambling back to full back while the guy he wasn’t playing on kicked an easy goal.

On the Marvel track, they will kill us unfortunately…If Geelong couldn’t stop their fast start, not sure we can…But it’s all about getting games into these kids…And maybe more positional changes to find things out…
Nah, they will he over confident and we will be hurting from the smashing. Should be a decent contest but ultimately they will win

Cba to check afl tables for our win loss record at marvel but it’s got to be much worse than the mcg.
We as Richmond fans have deleted those records from history. Just move on lol.

although Sam Lalor only had 10 disposals he had 4 tackles usually tackles is a stat young players struggle with especially at AFL level because the game is so much quicker we knew from his draft tackling was a attribute trait he had you can tell this kid is putting in 100% effort, for instance Jacob Hopper had 0 tackles on the weekend despite being around the ball way more, to me that is completely unacceptable from an experience head, it's either lazyiness or he is just too slow & incapable. probably the latter but proves my theory is that both Taranto & Hopper can not be on the inside at the same time.

After having time to digest the game and go through it, I think Bauer can have a week off. He may show courage and fly at everything but he doesn't show any physical pressure. Sure Fawcett lost his mind and gave away a free over the boundary but hell, I like a bit of swagger and a willingness to fly the flag. I think the changes will be

OUT: Bauer, Banks, Green
IN: Lynch, McAuliffe, Alger

I think it is best to get some time and development into the first year players early in the season when they are fresh and willing. Then in mid June to end of season the older Rookies can have a crack. Green, despite having some good plays down the wing just didn't seem to have the tank or ability to at least apply pressure. Green had 0 tackles whilst Mansell had 6 and Seth had 2

The wings need to be looked at with both tresize and banks have zero defensive game , when a couple of no names have 60 between them in Bourgogne and mead , it’s a problem . For mine these are first 2 spots to open up for smillie and Kano
Smille needs to be put through the VFL to at least get some conditioning before an AFL Debut and Trez, Dow and Macca will run the Wings. Would leave those 3 to do the wing position whilst bringing in McAuliffe to run purely as a mid

I have been saying we can’t start Toranto and Hopper in the centre together, moving Toranto forward would be a start. But we need to put players in the centre who can kick. All our current starting centre players except Ross are handball happy but we have no outside players around them

Mcauliffe is a ferocious tackler, when he and Lalor get up and going down the track they will be imposing.

Bullshit. Our first two picks were elite bulls. Want to draft a bunch of short people and end up like North?
I tend to agree, still got Hotten to come in. I’m glad we took the talls, they will take longer to develop, so take 2 elite/ fast mids this year and we are starting to have a well rounded long term list.
Not sure what to do with TT and Hopper.
