Last year we played the reigning premiers (Geelong) who were travelling poorly, and they hammered us early and then we turned our toes up.

This year is different. There’s more fight and willingness to get back into the contest.

We may not win as many games, but we will be competitive for longer in all of them.

That’s progress.

They need to bottle it up and find a way to channel that energy. Our pressure was frenetic in the last.

Great fight back, the boys didn’t roll over and that’s all we could ask for after that first half. Could’ve snatched it with a bit of luck, but losing a close one isn’t the worst thing for reigniting that hunger. Frustrating, but plenty of good lessons to be learnt from this.

The way we cracked in during the second half is the benchmark. Effort and intensity was bloody awesome!!

So close. To all the doubters and doomsayers, we are not that far off when we fight and play tough contested footy and give it a real go. Just a missed shot in front of goal against the reigning premiers and we beat them last year also. Watch out for when we start putting it together and our kids get more experienced.

Some posters in the game day thread should be ashamed to call themselves supporters. Crucifying the youngest team of the round who had played half as many games as their reigning premier opponents.

That's my takeaway. Not interested in honourable losses, but incredibly proud of Hardwick and Moore's efforts. Also amazing how much easier it is when the opposition isn't nailing every shot.
