The Saints want to control the ball with marks. They average 7 more marks than the 2nd most marking team. We are 15th with only 83 marks per game.

You look at the individual average list and it’s basically all their defenders who average more than Nick Daicos.

Furthermore, they’re also #1 for Intercepts and #3 for defensive 50 rebounds due to essentially being a bit more defensive in their setup.

This is not to say they’re only a slow team but they can explode and play fast when necessary. They tend to “explode” once they reach the half way mark of the field. This allows them to setup behind the ball. They tend not to take too many risks from D50.

In the 4 games, the Saints opponents have had 17,16,19,20 scoring shots. However, no one’s kicked more than 74 points and the other 3 have been 60 points or less. On the offensive side, they’ve kicked 94 or more points on 3 occasions.

If we allow their defence to take marks and pick apart our zone, we will be on the back foot. They don’t have the greatest forward line, but they spread the load effectively.
Important for us to lower the eyes and not bomb it in then.
Especially if McStay is McRuck.

Must win today, because I have grave concerns about Essendon fully exploiting our weakness in the ruck on ANZAC Day. Provided we stay in the positive on our win/loss ratio, I'm sure top 4 will be obtainable when we get some ruckmen back. Just have to hang in there
Draper will smash us in the hitouts, but he'd smash Cameron and Cox too. Their rucks kicking 5 goals ain't likely to happen again

You'd think Cox with his height would be able to beat anyone just with his reach, although at 2.05m, Draper is also of significant height. At no.1 in the 2017 rookie draft, he was a great pick up for Essendon, showing you don't have to waste top draft picks to get a decent ruckman.

Hard to use your height when you get pushed out of the contest.

Saw someone mention Frampton possibly rucking this week, was there any strong word about that or guessing?
If there was a team you could take him out of the backline then it would be vs St Kilda and allow McStay to play his proper position

That is how the boys trained all week.

Several pages on it. The magnifying glass in the task bar is a search function.

Frampton, AJ, Steene & Krueger were the only ones rucking at Wednesday's training.
