Black Books would actually have been a great theme for a count night, Kilroy ! But I already have 112 files between images and text files in my folder for this so a themed gif set as well might have made my head explode :D

Maybe next season! I did Alex Jones themed gifs per round once but I wasn't captain then haha

Official Match Thread - Season 37 Round 16 - Roys FFC v East Side Hawks at Brunswick Junction Oval

In a round utterly surrounded by byes in the same way a navy is an army surrounded by water, the Roys had the Hawks as houseguests and proved themselves to be rather stingy hosts. After a slow start, failing to score a goal in the first quarter, the Gorillas piled on 7 goals to 1 in the second quarter to take control and finished the game six goals in the clear, more than doubling the score lodged by ESH.

The Hawks had only themselves to blame as their first three scoring shots were all offline, but the Roys fared no better in that opening quarter. It was JackNah_8 who opened our goal account within the first minute of the second term. That's it when it began to rain goals, with all scoring going the way of the Roys until the final shot on goal for the half sailing through from Loonerty , who was ESH's best player, assisted by a hard-fighting Zoops .

TheGoatBaron and SpecialBruce were instrumental in orchestrating the win, the former scoring only 4 points less than the entire opposition team, and the latter setting up basically all those opportunities in a low-scoring affair overall. 3KZ is Football and Pure Grunt each revelled in their roles, and Reardo kicked two telling goals to put the icing on the cake. In a rare incidence of double donuts, both Roylion and MrsEddieBetts enjoyed an opportunity to simply laugh and point for the duration of the game. That's not a stat, folks. Schadenfreude is not a stat.

Season 37 Flea29 Award for the Most Improved Player​


Season 37 saw new players come in and old players move out, and a jarring change of management at the BJO. As a result, opportunities arose for some players to take on additional responsibility and push their immersion to new levels.

Usually these changes would come in the form if club members who were well-involved, but seeking to take an extra step, picking up the pace after some casual growth in interest. But one Roy did not fit this second metric. Pre-season, he was floundering, and came very close to giving the league away altogether. And yet he instead threw more and more into the club, virtual body and virtual soul.

Mext moment, he's in the LG and putting his hand up regularly for more ways to contribute!

With a nod to other players we could consider for this award - including such Roys as JackNah_8 for her successful move to KPP, SpecialBruce for following up last season's return to the club with an elevation to ruck-rover, and Zevon (reasons!), we are truly joyed to announce the winner of this season’s flea29 award winner : Ed_Gein .

The Good Ol’ Roy is the award for My Favourite Martian Roy, as voted by you - The Roys. It’s the player’s player, the champion of champions, the creme de la menthe. The list of previous winners is long (36 seasons long to be accurate) and distinguished. Greats of our club such as Mobbenfuhrer, fitzroybowiedog, and .... Zevon ? Really???

This season saw some pretty stiff competition at the top and a wide spread of votes.

What more can be said about this guy that hasn’t already? Nothing that wouldn’t be followed by a call to his lawyers, that’s for sure.

Not only does he do all the captainy stuff well and post like a fire hose with a stuck valve, he is universally loved by all within and without the Roys

But as that bloke with the big sword once said, there can be only one ……. And his words are true tonight as they were back then. The winner of the Good Ol’ Roy award for season 37 had a huge impact both on and off the field this season with a combination of team involvement and individual brilliance, He loves a bit of sledging and has the goods to back it up.

We look forward to him terrorising defences into season 38 and beyond, where more awards will surely come his way.

Official Match Thread - Season 37 Round 19 - Sin City Swamprats v Roys FFC at Underground Stadium (WEDNESDAY QOOTY)

With the top 5 or 6 teams jostling for a coveted top four position, second placed Roys went to the home of the fifth place Rats looking for the chance to take top spot. For the Rats, this game would be their final H&A game, and their final chance to claim the double chance. Turns out I like saying chance. What are the chances?

Pure Grunt opened the scoring early for the Roys, in what should have been a confidence booster, driving them on to victory. But it didn’t. okeydoke7 levelled a couple of minutes later and then Elmer_Judd - yes that guy - spoiled two gilt-edged Swampy chances within a minute; enough to put the home team in front. Where they stayed for the next 90-odd minutes.

Despite getting plenty of ball around the ground, DERRINALPHIL was well beaten in the taps by damicky. The Roys had to fight for everything and fight they did. royboy2 laid 8 tackles and SpecialBruce 5. Aristotle Pickett had 23 disposals and 3KZ is Football had 19 but the Roys really struggled in front of goal.

TheGoatBaron and MrsEddieBetts were the only multiple kickers for the Roys with a couple each. While at the other end, okeydoke7 and HirdsTheWord kicked more goals than the Roys team. By the end of the game, the Swampies had elevated themselves to second spot while the Roys - with a game to play - were in 4th and anxiously looking over their collective shoulders.

In the penultimate round, SpecialBruce equals Pure Grunt at the top of the table! royboy2 also scoots up to within barking distance. 3KZ is Football continues to gain votes and sits only 1 behind the lead!

Unfortunately DERRINALPHIL is now out of the race and that leaves the abovementioned four players with a chance to take home the lollies. rb2 will have a mountain to climb but its possible. The other 3 ... well let's just see!

ONE ROUND REMAINS!!!

PS: Thanks Aristotle Pickett for stealing votes off them all too. That was hilarious!
