I don’t think it’s beyond him to massage the truth.

Imagine for a moment that a budget was floated to payout Ken and get in Clarkson (or similar) including all the associated assistant movements required, and the AFL rejected it. Do you think we’d know about it?

Caroline Wilson's sources at AFL House mean that we would

I reckon that certain longer serving personnel at the club still believe Hinkley is the most fitting coach for Port and don't want to part ways, and don't believe they should but may have to for the sake of attendancs/members even though they believe they know best and we're incapable of their wisdom. That they still believe he can deliver success but he's been unlucky. That they believe with Hinkley we won't have seasons as we did with Primus, that at worse he keeps us in a safe on field position, that they fear a change in coach may bring turbulent times that financially the club cannot survive. I reckon they know it is a hard sell to the members to keep him and are increasingly nervous about missing the finals because making finals would give them an excuse to blame injuries, blame the new midfield transition, and project to the members that we would've finished top 4. I reckon they're struggling to come to terms with the inevitable change because they didn't see it coming.

Apparently Tom Jonas has publicly stated he doesn't want to play under another coach

Of course he doesn't. His career would be over.

None of these 'players love the coach' statements are the least bit surprising. It's why our trophy cabinet has this sign displayed in the era 2013-2022.......

In hindsight this is disgusting. Makes it clear that ken artificially inflated his value by pretending he was going to the gold coast.

Also makes it clear that he tells kochie what to do.

There is no doubt who runs this club. K Hinkley.

Some quotes from that article:

What has David done for (me) as a coach? He’s given me everything I could possibly ask for to be a success as a coach.

Obviously not enough as we still need to put all our chips on crazy things happening in football to scrape into finals.

Hinkley denied rumours he’d be staying at Port Adelaide until 2021.

If only.

Caroline Wilson's sources at AFL House mean that we would

Unless their message was to not do that and to instead sing the praises of the incumbent coach to try and quell the unrest of the feral Pordalaide hordes.

It does come off as a bit tin foil hat-ish, but it's the only thing I can think of for why Teflon Ken is under zero pressure for a season that would be a death knell for any other coach at any other club.

Kornes on 9 news thinks Ken sees out his contract.
Says there are at leat 10 players who will be extremely upset if he is let go.

So 30 players don’t care.

When I went to that Ebert/Jonas Wine Lunch a while back, 6 weeks ago maybe, the player manager I spoke to who agreed Hinkley should be fired into the sun said to me when I said we should get Clarkson "The AFL would never allow that". Now I don't think this guy knew everything about everything, but it did leave me thinking FFS!!

Number of coach changes since October 2012:

3 - Adelaide, Carlton, North Melbourne
2 - Brisbane, Essendon, SUNS, Melbourne, St Kilda
1 - Collingwood, Fremantle, GWS, Hawthorn, West Coast, Western Bulldogs
0 - Geelong, Port Adelaide, Richmond, Sydney

Unchanged category includes:

Chris Scott - 11 seasons, 10 finals, 2 grand finals, 1 premiership
Damien Hardwick - 12 seasons, 7 finals, 3 grand finals, 3 premierships
John Longmire - 11 seasons, 9 finals, 3 grand finals, 1 premiership
Ken Hinkley - 9 seasons, 5 finals, 0 grand finals, 0 premierships

In addition, all of the above are currently in position to once again play finals and possibly more ... whilst Hinkley is 12th and set to reduce his finals participation rate back to 50%.

Let’s pour one out for David Noble, who was responsible for TWO of the victories constituting Hinkley’s magical overall 59% win percentage that has been used a cudgel to beat us over the head with:

• Alan Richardson 6-0
• Brad Scott 5-1
• Stuart Dew 5-0
• Paul Roos 4-1
• Matthew Nicks 3-1
• Brendon Bolton 3-1
• Justin Leppitsch 3-1
• Brenton Sanderson 3-1
• Brett Ratten 3-1
• David Teague 3-0
• Rodney Eade 3-0
• Guy McKenna 3-0
• David Noble 2-0
• Ben Rutten 2-0
• Kevin Sheedy 2-0
• Mark McVeigh 1-0
• Robert Harvey 1-0
• David Hale 1-0
• Dean Solomon 1-0
• Phil Walsh 1-0
• Scott Watters 1-0
• Mark Neeld 1-0

Hinkley versus Rookies, failures, caretakers and good coaches at the wheel of clown-cars: 57-7 (89%)

On that basis kern will be able to......................... outcoach himself..............................this is sickening

let me guess, jonas, boak, grey, dixon, wines, motlop, hartlett, marshall, lycett. Funny that lot are the same who continually go missing in finals barring grey. Alberton is well a truly a boys club

Yes it sums up the 'competitive and paying our way' desire the vfl have for us. And realistically, not to become a strong premiership winning Club. Which is being glenelged.......aarrrgghhh

Honestly who gives a sh1t if a few players crack the sads for a bit? Has any player ever quit because their coach got sacked? The closest I can think of is Zac Dawson following Ross Lyon to Freo.

The only thing about that coming across as tin foil hat-ish, is that you actually think vfl house give a flying fluck about the 'feral Pordalaide hordes'

As part of the Noble sacking stuff on SEN this morning, they quoted David King from last year, think it was an audio grab - "coaches don't survive the rebuild (phase), they get sacked. Alastir Clarkson and Ken Hinkley are the only ones who have."

You don't have to like it - but these 2 sentences probably explain why Hinkley has received such a free pass for so long from the media.

Have a look at all the "rebuilds" since 2000 and you see that the coaches who got some success in their first 3 or 4 years, not the ultimate success, did survive the rebuild.

King missed 2 others. Malthouse, Collingwood was crap in 2000, 2001 just missed finals then 2 GFs. They knew they had maxed out the talent so he got to do the next stage of the rebuild and took 7 years to get a flag.

Hardwick started at the bottom, lost first 9 games, but there was an upward graph and finals came in 4th, 5th and 6th year before went backwards in 2016, then got the ultimate success.

No other coach since 2000 who has taken over a side with less than 5 wins the previous years ie had been seen as a basket case club, has survived more than 5 or 6 years if they haven't rebuilt and made finals within 3 or 4 years.

Hinkley with the help of well run club and Richardson and Walsh, did it in years 1 and 2, so he gets a big leave pass. Clarko and Malthouse did it in year 3 and 4, and Hardwick in year 4, 5 and 6.

Really don't see the problem.

Footy is a tough game and someone has to buy into the greyhound syndicate.

Different code but Darius Boyd and Wayne Bennett 'stayed together' for a while

Another quality post REH. Said it before, and I'll type it again, posts of this quality deserve more than 1 point.

That he is even mentioned in the same sentence as Clarko, let alone being remotely compared to him is just plain bewildering. And oh so wrong. It's sickening.

Pass me the bucket, and

Hinkley wasn't the rebuild coach, Primus was the rebuild coach and he didn't survive!

Just more gaslighting and revisionist bullshit to make their grubby, greyhound killing Victorian buddy look like a hero.
Given rebuilds take several years, Primus might have started it, but he didn't get the chance to complete the job. Hinkley continued it.

Nobody in February 2013 said our rebuild is nearly over.

That's the point King was making. Rebuilds usually take several coaches,

Maybe he didn't mention Hardwick because Richmond were in continuous rebuild for 20 years and Collingwood were down for several years at the end of Matthews tenure and then Shaw had 4 years before Malthouse took over and they were crap in his first year.
