I think you gotta respect Bucky’s opinion even if you don’t agree with it. Which I don’t. I can get my head around the instability of not signing Hinkley prior to finals trickling down to all the assistants who would also be in a position of not knowing where they stood, especially at that time where some of us thought we might be in the mix.
Having said that, I remember being quite disappointed Bucky quit after 2004 ,mission accomplished. I thought why would you do that being right in the middle of what could have been a mini dynasty? His endorsement of John James as his heir I’ve got to say was a fail.
To paraphrase The Godfather, perhaps he wasn’t a wartime CEO. Diplomatically, he was what we needed to get the SANFL onside for our AFL bid but not necessarily that ruthless Bruce Webber type to make ruthless calls like what’s needed now.
