Autopsy Sydney Legacy in Grand Finals continues 10 goal loss to the Lions

Its mind boggling how we couldnt of managed him better when we were almost 5 games clear on top.
Didn't he do it just before Finals? He was rested on the last round so I suspect he might have done it the week before. The fact Heeney played two blinders in the Finals shows how much of a good player he is.

I've tried to calm down before responding. But I can't. I'm still angry. That performance was insipid. We have cattle, but it starts at the top. You can spin how you want, but 4 GFs in a row at an average of 56 points loss is enough. The club needs a refresh of a lot of things, including coaching and the culture. Horse is done. He's proven he's not much better than Hinkley or Lyons. I'm done with him

For one shining moment in this game... I dared to dream. We'd kicked the first two, someone kicked it high over their shoulder to go inside 50...Papley was lurking....I thought to myself if it lands in his arms and we get another here we might run away with it...Alas it came down 5 meters away from him and into the arms of a Lion.

as always the fish rots from the head down, what sort of Chairman promises a coach a job for life if he wants it?

The Chairman can take Longmire with him and p*** off.

Take the rest of the coaching panel with you.

I don’t care who we get or whether we slide down the table I want a team with steel, a team to be proud of, a team that will compete!

If we lost the GF’s by 10 points after a rollicking contest you could be proud except that deal up that rubbish.

And the captain I’m proud of the boys, what a joke, sure don’t roast them publically but to be proud of that garbage.

Let me ask would any of our greats Jude Bolton, etc etc ever allow such a dismal display? No they would fight to the death and go down swinging.

You could see in the presser Longmire has no clue. He has wasted this list and it will take another rebuild before we can even get within a sniff of it.

One thing they consistently hurts us is lack of athleticism in the forward line . McLean ,amartey , McDonald and Papley have 0 leap and athleticism between them . The only one that does is Hayward. Lions forward entries weren’t all great but they have high flyers who can at least compete and even mark the ball. Even their smalls in Lohman and ah Chee can get up .

Our players just have concrete boots

Swans lost it psychologically.
It was clearly evident within the first 10 minutes. Hack kicks into the forward line with no smooth, calm ball movement. There was an absence of physically.
It was weak, timid an looked unprepared. Players were panicking. There was no leadership.
The Swans gave up.
They didn’t attempt to fight back.
Repeat humiliation in Grand Finals is club destroying.
They will not be playing finals in 2025.
Hope you’re right & we are both fighting for pick one.

The part I really don’t understand is selecting McDonald.

When Mills wasn’t selected I had renewed faith that we wouldn’t pick injured players - despite McDonald’s limited prep. In my mind, the Reid lesson had been learned.

But McDonald was not only nowhere near it from the start. He also wasn’t that structurally important to our game plan (far less than Reid was). He doesn’t take a lot of contested marks. We could have picked any of Cleary, Adams, Mills, hell even Ladhams and we wii on you have been better off.

I just do not get it.
The right question to ask is why was mcinerney playing not McDonald.

Don’t play injured players ?? He’s been so hobbled all final series - he’s run with a massive limp all final series.

I couldn’t believe how much he was limping against port after the two weeks in the giants game where he was off at half time.

Horse has his best 23 and doesn’t trust anyone out of it.

Best prep my arse.

So much to say but don't know where to start or how to put it into words.

I will be brutally honest and say we aren't winning a flag with Amartey and McLean as our leading KPFs. People complain about our mids and our i50 entries, but what do those 2 provide as players we're to kick to? Absolutely nothing. If we put them on the trade table we'd be getting a hell of a lot of "Thanks, but no thanks."

McDonald? Where does this bloke stand? Another underwhelming 1st round pick or being misused by Horse? Thought this was the year he'd be a lot more imposing without Franklin, but he hasn't really kicked on from last season, has he?

Our defence.... I'm probably going to sound flippant, but last time we won the flag we had Richards, Grundy, Johnson who were all fantastic... We have Johnson covered with Rampe as a great 3rd tall/med sized defender who is to compliment our talls... McCartin can be ok but Melican is a bloke who was stuck in reserves and only started getting a game out of necessity. Not sure where I stand on him in general, can be ok, but we could do better.

Covering those two sections the Lions have Andrews and Daniher at either end where the former is AA quality and took 10 marks, whilst the latter had 6 scoring shots to 0.1 combined by Amartey/McLean/McDonald....

End of the day, for my money, Horse needs to go and we need to make hard call on some players by putting the likes of Ladhams, Francis, Adams, Amartey, McLean et al on the trade table, see what we can get, clear cap space and get quality KPP bookends in instead of relying on scraps and make-do depth that are VFL quality. Our midfield is there, but our KPP at either end of the ground sorely lacks quality for mine.

Why play Logan?

To be honest I’ve liked Francis forward as much as any of the three others.

Campbell Adams should have played for McDonald and mcinerney and arguably Cleary should have kept his spot.

I have to watch the first quarter again because my memory is a bit blurry about how bad our ball movement into the fifty was and hoe easily they moved it - I suspect the lack of pressure started in the forward line

Just watched the first one. My god the defence was horrible there. They did six shortish passes and then chipped it over mcinerney passed to ah chee where it was 4 lions to two swans inside fifty. Pass to Lehman ten metres out.

We did not compete all day.

Even when we kept it close for 20 minutes Brisbane were missing easy shots at goal.

Zone was penetrated with ease. Didn’t work. No plan B.

Tackled like we didn’t care.

Most GFs start with huge pressure. We were two steps behind all day.

I have zero faith in Longmire if he can’t send the team onto the mcg fired up for the biggest game of the year.
