Extremely happy to get him to our team.
Has been on my follow list for over a year and his courage, attack on the ball and breakaway speed
will have him as a fan favourite . Clutch goals like in the semi final has been a recent addition to his arsenal.
Players that can do that in big games are worth their weight in gold.
I am getting Keays vibes here. In that whilst he has had more recent AFL opportunity at his old club than Keays, he looks like the sort of player that will really bust his gut and he is still somewhat of an unknown. If we can get him to get the best out of himself as Keays has done, we will have a ripper of a player on our hands, albeit different types of player.

Went from academy boy , slow start , hide and develop him in local leagues.
His form explosion from a point basis when given opportunity triggered algorithms that alerted all the clubs .
We would have been as observant as everyone else but his late and finals form made him a fantastic commodity .
And we got him! Happy times , starting mid rotation next year.
I haven’t been following many GWS games but I like your summary of the lad. Just saw this highlights clip:

Seems like a solid mid-forward player. How does he compare to Rankine?

JAMES PEATLING
The trade: Adelaide trades future second-round draft pick to GWS Giants for James Peatling, future third and future fourth

ADELAIDE: B
The Crows get their man despite coming late in the trade period. Getting a couple of late picks back offsets the pain of giving up a second rounder, but Peatling showed plenty of promise and Adelaide’s expecting a rebound in 2025.

GWS GIANTS: C+
The Giants got the second rounder they craved, but a lot is riding on Adelaide missing finals in 2025. Peatling turned into a solid midfield option last season and GWS would be disappointed to lose the academy product.

Which club won the James Peatling trade? (clearly Crows according to readers)

Different players imo.
Rankine : Dazzling, brilliant, electrifying, freak , lightning bursts, freak goals, midfield bursts.
Peatling : gut runner both ways but has breakaway bursts, accountable, hard tackling, great goal sense.
Best suited as full time mid for us but sneaking fwd with ANB pressure fwd imo.

For a lean guy has great courage.

Looks like a great pick up and a good deal, would have been happy with a F2 and nothing back.

His speed, bursts from a stoppage and has clean hands from his highlights. Kicks goals.

He’s going to be enjoyable to watch.
As Reidy said he’s got fast feet around the contest which we don’t really have outside of Rankine

Can be a bit of a weapon at centre bounce , our pressure should go through roof next year with him and ANB and he’s got a knack for producing the freakish on occasion ( either goal or mark )

A little inconsistent by foot which will frustrate some fans at times , also plays for free kicks alot but his stats say he wins alot for too high , umps will catch on eventually like Ginnivan

Should get Laird to publicly out him

Analysts view of JP as a player , the trade and crows in general.
Worth listening to just past half way until he goes into fantasy stuff.

Any chance the time on ground would have affected these stats?
Averages in 2024 games where he wasn't the sub:
K: 11.3
HB: 6.7
DI: 18
MK: 2.4
TK: 7.1
G: 0.4
CL: 4.75

18 touches, 4.75 clearances, 7 tackles, half a goal per full game.

Edited to add clearances.

I imagine most clubs keep half an eye on gws and gcs academy boys who cant squeeze into the team straight away He played in both 2018 and 2019 U18 championships so would have been known about from at least then.

Lot of excitement for this, seems on brand for the mediocrity we strive for.

He really only established himself towards the end of this year. By then he was firmly in the starting midfield at a club flush with very good midfielders.

He's a somewhat speculative trade, but he has already shown a capacity for playing at a very high level, and importantly, we sorely need his type of player. We've got nobody else like him.

People who post his stats, obviously haven't watched him play or haven't taken the time to look at how many times he started as a sub. When he actually started in the midfield, he got the 10 coaches votes against Brisbane and 28 possessions against Melbourne where he made two game saving tackles ( one against ANB) People aren't saying he is a superstar but he has a lot of potential and has already played some standout games.

Pretty much. He's probably not going to slot in and instantly be first in line, but he's going to a better option than our current second stringers.

Even with his reduced game time, only 5 Crows (and 3 Giants) had more clearances than him this year.
