Welcome Welcome to Adelaide: Sid Draper - Pick 4, 2024

I think by the end of the season, regardless of whether we're going well or not.... he'll be playing 2s
Imo Crouch will be playing AFL.

There is always a need for a quality extractor.

There is, I just feel like we'll get to a point whereby his lack of flexibility will count against him with the group we are building
There is always room for an inside midfield extractor.

Out problem was playing both Crouch & Laird in the midfield.

I’m not sure there’s many premiership teams that included a slow moving mid that cant spread or progress the ball forward from a contest. Whilst he’s very good at what he does, I’m not convinced it makes our midfield better. It’s a bit like playing 3 tall forwards and Curtin, the individual quality makes sense, but there’s probably a reason that we’re the only club that has such a tall structure ahead of the ball.

You could see after his first kick that he got his bearings and thought he could do it, was really impressed by some of his clearances
I think his acceleration over the first 10 meters of sprint is super impressive. Not many that can go with him in that scenario. Dare I say it's Andrew Mcleod like.

Dunkley last sesson isn't light speed.

There are still plenty of extractors in the AFL & they become more important in winter conditions.

Crouch was important last season & will be better this year for having Laird replaced by quicker players like Peatling around him... as gives us far better balance.

I'm not saying no but until Sid does the short steps to say "if you really put in you'll catch me" and then just glides away like he's going 2/3rds speed and can't be caught, the comparison might not be apt.

It is a bloody impressive burst of speed though and Dunkley had no hope as he ran up the ground in the last quarter

Sid just puts the jets on immediately and knows people won't catch him

Yeah he is a lot like Danger when he was really young, people forget quite how quick Danger was before he became quick and strong. Losing Danger was really hard, really hard but I have my fingers crossed on Sid.

So much this explosiveness

Liber has never had pace but like all good extractors he compliments guys like the Bont and Treloar.

Are there any TV shows that through the season (or at the end) reviews the draftees from the last National Draft the year prior?

Provide an update on how they're progressing vs their draft ranking and general rating etc at the time.

I tend to forget some of them after so much debate and discussion pre-draft. Would be interesting given how many media reviews and ratings they have leading up to the draft, then very little after.

I have watched our junior players from day one. Certainly not trying to pretend I am an expert here but some of the pre season debut player highlights historically for me were:

- Modra pre season game at Waverley vs Bullies in 1992 (or was it 1993?) where he took a few classic Modra marks and I just thought wow. I had seen him do it in the SANFL the year before (think he kicked a bag 7-8 vs possibly Redlegs in an elimination final at footy park I went to) and desperately hoped we secured him. And then the 10 goals later on in R1 1993 vs the hapless Tiges at The G was just next level marking, goal sense and overall skills inc agility for found balls. A champion was born that day.

- Saliba playing Blues in a PS game at Footy Park perhaps 1993/1994, just looked like the “better, faster Andrew Jarman” that many were calling him (and Jars right up there as our most important player in early years). Saliba was such a waste. A real shame..

- Drapers 1.5 quarters last Thursday. He was up against the best of the best. Neale, McCluggage and Zorko. Won majority of battles including non disposals of pushing the ball forward to our advantage (to Hinge). Won many in tight contests and already the point of difference in the midfield we have been crying out for. Crucially won key possessions in final minutes of the game. 14 possessions in around 40% game time and short-mid kicks were all effective IIRC. Could have been paid a couple of frees (one obvious push in the back and both of his frees against seemed marginal at best from available camera angles)

Said when drafted and hearing him speak and understanding his inherent drive that this guy will captain us without doubt one day, hopefully a premiership captain. One of the best debuts that has me enthused i have ever seen l

He could be a massive part of our flag push in the next 2-3 years

Doubt TV shows but some YouTubers do that sort of thing or check the draft boards here for knowledgeable posters that “redo” previous drafts eg 2007 Danger and Tex both top 3-4 players and we grabbed both
