Both rucks suck, way too many brain fades that aren’t present in good teams even if we are a while away from that
Cole shite
Larkey 6 on TB/Gov
Chesser- First game i know but worrying, squibbish signs there
Lack of game plan (May finally be switching over to ‘get rid of simmo’ dark side, bring Coxy back home!)
XON- Dissapointing after upwards career trend last year
Umps- Deliberate?????
Witherden- GTFO

Ryan dragging us back into it and the little leg wobble
Long and Ginbey

Playing catch up again, and just missing out

:devilv1:

Missing gettable goals when it really mattered. So dissapointing.

Can’t be arsed with negatives, they’ll get covered off, suffice to say that we went to sleep from halfway through the 1st to halfway through the 3rd when a lack of intent cost us

• Ginbey was going as strong at the end as he was at the start. Will be better for the experience
• Long just needs time on the ground and in the gym. Knows where to be but needs to learn how to cope with the pace of the game and build strength. I think he’s going to be a star
• Chesser got through the game uninjured. Needs to be persisted with despite a quiet game
• Jones continues to evolve into something quite handy
• Allen needed to blow off some rust and will only get better
• Once we got some supply I50, Ryan looked dangerous
• Shuey and to a lesser extent Sheed helped spark the revival
• Gaff wasn’t terrible and had some good moments. He also some bad ones
• Hunt will be valuable once he settles in
• We looked dangerous when we moved the ball fast and the intent to do do was there even if we came unstuck at times

On the evidence of that game it’s going to be a hard year.

It’s all good saying we should move the ball quicker but being at the game for most of it until we lifted halfway through the third we got smashed in the midfield & by the time we got the ball back it was in or near the D50 & north where very well set up behind the play basically shutting us down.

+ Long and Ginbey
Shuey and Gov were good as was Ryan.
Jones can be good bad and ugly all in the same game.
Hunt went ok, saw "the" look on his face after one howler shank from someone "wtf am I doing here"
Came back but should never have got that bad

- Everyone fumbled a lot, Kelly and Sheed who are usually sure handed were bad for it.
Oscar missed enough goals to cost us the game.
Witherden, Cole and Duggan are all pretty average.
O'Neill is slower than Hurn, he got better when North came back to his pace.
I'll leave Bailey alone he's got enough ferals to contend with.

One thing that boggles my mind is the ruck wasn’t split more evenly between Jamo/Williams to start the game.

Williams was out of legs nearly the whole last quarter, surely if you go in with an extra ruck with the plan of subbing him out you would keep the other one fresh as possible.

Out of legs?? It happens when you run with your around with your pants pulled down in the ruck by a midfielder and have little football ability and or brains and or feel for the game

Ginbey will still be a better player than Sheezel.

I don’t particularly rate seagulls.
I doubt we would have taken Sheezel but whoever we could have had the pick and Ginbey for example. Shuey remains an absolute class above our mids- we need that level of replacement (highest rating points of any player in a GF) not just a good - very good player, all be it only one game.
The tragedy is that we could have been above the cats and pies.

Pretty pretty bad

I had a giggle at whichever muppet said they were concerned some first game forward pocket would tear us a new one. Turns out I'm the muppet.

A few good signs - effort to get back into the game from mid third term was excellent - gibney is going to be a gun, gov & shuey stood up, long showed some impressive signs, ryan & JJ were great. But geez our worst looks grim.

Imagine chalking up 6 goals to Larkey on TB/Gov when he kicked at least two thanks to free kicks against Hurn

Lost to last year's wooden spooners coming off a historically bad season. Did so with basically a full list to choose from and having fielded about 10 premiership players. Game 1 but that already puts us into bottom 4 / wooden spoon territory with a first month or so without a win looking likely.

Belted off the park by a younger outfit when the heat was on but at least the comeback showed improved fitness. Structurally our rucks are a major issue and Oscar was just ok as our number #1 key forward. Kids weren't embarrassed although Chesser looked a bit lost.

It’s pretty ******* funny seeing you defend Bailey until you’re blue in the face and then have this take on Sheezel after the game he’s just had on debut.
Obviously Sheezel is a far better player than Williams, I think currently Williams is a below average ruck.

He’s just extremely over hated on here, hence the defence.

We were able to run out the game unlike the last 4 seasons, so fitness has certainly improved at least.
Just need to work on many other things lol.
Basically boils down to being cleaner and not going to ground. Pretty fundamental football. Very eye opening when Long and Ginbey immediately look like our cleanest players coming out of the middle. The lack of a competent ruckman was also a big problem. Williams was getting pantsed by f*cking Greenwood

Good +

  • Ginbey looking great on debut and was hard at the ball and tackled strongly.
  • Long got into the game as it went on. Looking to be a steal and with more time, he'll be a gun. I didn't expect us to take him tbh. If we hit the powerball, he may become a Lachie Neale type.
  • Fitness improved as we were able to have more in the tank in the last than Norf.
  • Gov and Barrass taking intercept marks when we were overwhelmed.
  • Hurn still composed and being one of our best players at 35 years old.
  • Ryan turned things around when we got on top.
  • Shuey used the ball well at times.
  • Still in contention for Harley Reid.

Meh =

= Allen looking rusty but will get better as the season goes on.
= The same thing with Cole.
= Chesser looked squirmish but it's only his first game. I'm sure he'll improve.
= Sheed I felt was decent. Already our best ruckman.
= Petch provided the pace we needed.
= Darling also looked a bit rusty as well but seemed inconsistent with his shots at goal.

Bad/Ugly -

  • BBBW Was up against a non specialist ruck and failed to take advantage. He won the hitouts but either our mids failed to connect or his tap accuracy was poor A.Sandilands style. We are really screwed without Nic Nat.
  • Getting smashed in the middle, despite Norf having no proper ruck, they still smashed us. Imagine if they had Goldstein, I doubt we would've been close as they would've had even more freedom with Goldstein's taps.
  • Kelly way too fumbly and his fumbles costed us at times.
  • Misses at the end.
  • Gaff unfortunately killed momentum at times such as not having a right foot and lacks penetration on his kicks. Would rather have Yeo take his spot when he returns.
  • Witherden, looks way too slow and doesn't even provide the offensive drive he's been hyped to do.

For those saying "wE ShoLD NoT HAvE tRAdeD pICk 2" Sheezel was a flight risk and would've been disappointed if we took him and would've pulled a JHF in this trade period.

I still think we needed to play a third KPD such as H.Edwards in place of Witherden as Larkey destroyed us and having someone to lock him down would've certainly helped. Hopefully Hewitt, Culley, Burgiel, Barnett and other youngsters can perform well in the WAFL.

There are no positives
No matter how we try to spin it
No matter how many dot points we use to highlight players individual efforts
We just lost to last year's wooden spooner, and got crushed at contested ball, by a team that didn't even have a ruckman, for over 3 quarters

Let that sink in

Statistically our midfield looked ok, but in real game terms that were overwhelmingly ineffectual and spent large periods of the game looking like they couldn't care. Senior players lifted? Nah. It's easy to look like you are doing more when you spend the entire second quarter doing nothing

The sad thing is the club has sunk to such a low that we think our "effort" in such an inspid performance like this, deserves praise

We are bereft of energy, mongrel, aggression and leadership

It's like 2022 but worse. Last year we had some legitimate excuses for performances like these. This year, we don't

Melt ended
