Don’t players like being told the truth these days
ApparentlyThey have feelings. Brittle young men.
Apparently
Instead they go to the coach and promise to do better this week.……………… Ok then we’ll talk again next mondayGone are the hard nuts of yesteryear who would go back to the magoos and earn their spot back.
It can be used poorly like all stats, but it has its place. You use it to assess how players are breaking free of stoppages and gaining territory (obviously). Looking at Crouch and saying 'he had 37 disposals and only got X meters gained so he had a bad game' is dumb but it doesn't mean the stat is useless.Again insignificant stupid stat
They didn’t need given all the open space we gave them on the reboundGeelong weren't bombing the ball inside 50 as well with loose defenders.
Yeh that’s why I’m not a fan they can be used which better suits you,It can be used poorly like all stats, but it has its place. Looking at Crouch and saying 'he had 37 disposals and only got X meters gained so he had a bad game' is dumb but it doesn't mean the stat is useless.
How about we stop being pathetic and pick players based on form? It's a professional sport, if you aren't playing well enough you get dropped. End of story. Deal with it. It doesn't matter who you are.Surely we could "manage" Smith if we don't want to embarrass him with the "omitted" tag, even though he deserves it
He's 32, it's easy to justify "management"
Much easier to have interceptors if the opposition is bombing the ball, near impossible to have interceptors if the entries aren't bombing the ball. They didn’t need given all the open space we gave them on the rebound
I don’t mind that stat. Along with effective metres gained it will highlight the ball burners. From that article explainer...Crouch gets a mention actually.
It has from a few posters but not the club or media.I don''t think the AFL coaches would agree with that personally, players like Matt Crouch's prime job is to get the ball out to the team's best users like Dawson. the 2023 version of Dawson that said. Strange how the focus hasn't yet come onto Dawson's 2024 form thus far.
Do you honestly listen to them? If the stats don’t add up the way they want they generally twist or ‘omit’ certain areas to make it look like they’re clever. But if he hball s backwards or side ways to someone that puts it too advantage it’s a negative gain and nuffies on here that go on stats blow up oh look at his metres gained. Yes the coaches have better understanding. If a bloke is winning the ball 37 times how many times did he turn it over. It just gives the Crouch bashers ammunition without any understanding or eye for the game
Offer him and Sloane a last hurrah match , on the condition that play SANFL through to whatever thr last final match is.Smith doesn't need time in the SANFL he needs to be dropped permanently and retire end of season. He has been finished for a while.
If Brodie Smith looks the coach in the eye and tells Nicks he truly believe his form warrants selection he's either a liar or completely deluded. Neither option bodes well for the club and if Nicks accepts it it's sending the old "seniority rules" shit back up.How about we stop being pathetic and pick players based on form? It's a professional sport, if you aren't playing well enough you get dropped. End of story. Deal with it. It doesn't matter who you are.

Regulation ground ball that he should have easily picked up and sent us forward, but COMPLETELY SQUIBS the contest and Geelong get it and goal. Look at the score, crucial time of the game and we literally shat the bed.
Absolutely woeful effort from a 'senior leader' and should be dropped on that alone.

Seriously should have just walked off packed his bags and went homeAgreed, rivals that banana he sent to row Z as his worst moment in the game.

****ing hell he was woeful. I've always admired his work and commitment but he needs to be put out to pasture. If anyone is in ANY doubt about Brodie Smith, they need to watch this bit of the highhlights.

This explains why Pedlar kicked the ball 55m over Tex’s head. Got 55m gained rather than 15m had he laced out TexMetres gained: Breaking down the AFL's most misunderstood statistic
'Metres gained' has become the sexy statistic that's synonymous with modern footy, but what does it mean and just how valuable is it? ESPN and Champion Data have joined forces to break down everything metres gained and explain what it all means.www.espn.com.au
It’s becoming infectiousShows how bad we are at present, how about Tex's miskick, 9 times out of ten he'd have slotted that..And Fog and Burgess both usually great set shot kickers hitting the post from well in range.
Watching it live, he was running into a 3 on 1 situation. It looked like he thought he would shield the ball from the first opponent with his back, then he was intending on picking the ball up and backstepping out of trouble. Ambitious to say the least. If anyone is in ANY doubt about Brodie Smith, they need to watch this bit of the highhlights.
