1. 2008 GF - a win against the odds against an all time great team. One for Crawf. 27 degrees. Perfect.
2. 2007 Elim final v Adelaide - Buddy! First finals game and win for a long time.
3. 1996 merger game - Dunstall 100 goals. Langas holding the jumper up.
4. 2001 Prelim v Ess - Very...
The size of the ground is our biggest problem. It's 15 metres longer and 20 metres narrower than the G. Which means we have to cover more ground with less space to do it in with our precision kicking game.
The result if we do it badly is turnovers, then panicked bombs down the line or...
Don't know how you can boo a bloke that's delivered as much to the club as buddy did. So he's left? So what? Clubs show zero loyalty to players, the minute they cease to be useful they are cut without a seconds thought. The idea that players should show loyalty to clubs is a conceit for fans...
We have shown for 5 years either an insurmountable mental problem or an insurmountable tactical problem against the cats. Probably half our guys have never played in a winning team. You only have to look at selwood's and scarlett's comments this week (and sanderson's tip this morning) to know...
Pretty tough. 2 time Coleman Medalist. 4 time All-Australian. 6 time Hawthorn leading goal kicker. B&F in a Premiership year. Still 4 or 5 good years to go.
I don't think the new tactic re spread of goalkickers is preparing for life without Buddy. I think it is the other way around. My guess is that:
1. Pre-season, Clarko sat Buddy down (maybe in Las Vegas as is reported) and said from now on you will be sacrificing your own game for the team...
Unlike goldfish and some "supporters" on here, opposition clubs are capable of remembering more than just his most recent game and having some regard for the 159 he played before that. Seriously the crap posted on here about buddy is embarrassing. Every year buddy has a game or a few games...
Inflexibly applying a policy regardless of circumstances is not very smart and the club only has itself to blame in that case. I reckon buddy has done enough to earn a deal from hawthorn through to retirement. I'd personally offer him 6 years but 5 will do. There are ways out of the deal if...
The Herald-Sun report says the club's offer is "up to 4 years". That sounds like it could be a 3 year offer with an option. If so, it's a rubbish offer and Buddy is right to consider his options. Even if it's a 4 year offer, that still leaves him coming out of contract at an age where another...
The problem is we don't know what we're comparing it to. Could this list have been better in the period from 07 to 12 under say Paul Roos or Mick Malthouse? Clarko will always be a Hawthorn hero because of 08 but I don't think he has got the best out of this list.
The problem with being cutting edge is that when the opposition work it out we are then lost.
Clarko's cluster won us a premiership in 08. It wad found out and 09 and 10 were wasted.
The precise, kick through the press plan took us to within a kick of the GF in 11 (with a huge injury...
The major reason for the fade outs is that Clarko panics when teams start to get a run on and starts playing all sorts of weird structures. We went 3 times in a row to poppy there with no buddy or roughead in sight. Line up properly and give us an even chance.
Does anyone know the theory behind the no forward line structure at a few centre bounces last night?
Apart from that I thought Clarko was much better last night. Gave us a chance to really pile on the pressure via having Cyril and buddy in much more dangerous positions.
Yes we're maybe a tad slow in the middle but every side has a few weaknesses.
I still say the major reason we are where we are is the bloke sitting in the coaches box. We just don't structure up in the most dangerous ways we have available. We are unnecessarily defensive. We need to move...
If we accept our list has the necessary talent, I can only think of 2 reasons for this rubbish.
Either our players are are weak and gutless (possible).
Or we are badly coached with a game plan that stifles talent, does not stand up under pressure, does not capitalize on periods of...
What's the point? Clarko gave them a massive bake after the cats game and we gave been the same weak minded team since then. There is something fundamentally wrong with this group of players. The season is one quarter away from being lost in my opinion. If we lose this the players will lose...
No one else will give him any credit (particularly the media), but I reckon Clarko will be pretty happy with Buddy's game so far.
Selfless, tough and disciplined. It's no coincidence Roughy has kicked 5.
Assuming any more than 6 losses likely means no top 4, you'd think being 2-3 would make the top 4 and therefore the premiership very doubtful.
I know it's early but this one is a must win. Lose and we're a long way back.
I have no doubt Clarkson is a very clever tactician and in many ways he is an excellent coach. But I can't help but think his strategies tend to stifle the extraordinary talent he has at his disposal, rather than fully exploit it.
This list is a premiership list and since 08 we have won...
I don't think we're middle of the road but we now need to string a lot of wins together if we want to finish top 4. We can probably only afford to lose 4 more for the year and we have to play the 4 or 5 best teams again. The season could quietly slip away unless we ramp it up the next few...
Re: Hawks vs Cats
There is no excuse for that. A complete absence of character. Really inexcusably weak.
Given this is the 8th time in a row at least I got on the cats at $5.50 halfway through the third.
I would have thought we'd have trouble fitting all of Max, Roughy, Hale, Buddy and Gunston in the one team. At any one time that's 1 ruck and 3 or 4 tall forwards, which is too many. As bad luck as this is for big Max, a bit of experimentation whilst he is out is needed.
I'm not sure we do have a champion midfield.
It is very good sure, but it's just a little bit slow and a little bit one dimensional.
We lack the swan/ablett/Judd type who can win the ball and run away from the stoppage.
Burgoyne, Rioli and buddy need to each play this role in bursts...
