Not me. I know stuff all about cricket. :)

Can't help but to notice these rumors keep on popping up.

Very reliable source close to the Bombers tell me that a deal could be on the cards for West Coast, St. Kilda and Essendon to send Dal Santo to the Bombers and Kerr to the Saints:
-Essendon trade 1st rounder to St. Kilda for Dal Santo
-St. Kilda use that pick and their current 1st round pick to trade to West Coast for Kerr and West Coast's second round pick.

As I said, this is from a very reliable source close to the Bombers, not something I made up.

He's definitely not a BigFooty regular, he is employed by the Essendon Football Club.

Nothing set in stone, but i can tell you that we are interested and that we have met with his management.

It would be a huge steal if we can make that happen, which will probably not.

St.Kilda Gain: Kerr, Pick 20
St.Kilda Lose: Dal Santo, Pick 13

Essendon Gain: Dal Santo
Essendon Lose: Pick 5

West Coast Gain: Pick 5, 13
West Coast Lose: Kerr, Pick 20

win.lose.win
majority rules.
make it happen saints. :thumbsu::D

Yep, I'd love to see it happen. That pick 20 really makes it look good for us!

Inside word is Dal is off to Essendon..

I believe it would be the outside word if it related to one Nick Dal Santo

I don't think I'll ever forgive Dal after not making the distance after the siren from about 65 against Sydney in 02 in the infamous draw :p

Last year we made 2 trades for 4 players.
Rumours beforehand =0

You could make a lot of money if you bet against these trades when the rumour comes out.

Having said this, sometimes people (who are close to the action) do float a rumour out there to see what the reaction is from the other club/s. Just like politicians do with new policies - just test the water and then deny all knowledge if the punters are going to revolt.

There is nothing surer - with 3 clubs involved, this deal has not been discussed between WC/Ess/StK at this point. Maybe one of them would like it to happen, or maybe someone is putting two and two together (to get 743) based on WC wanting two first rounders and the perennial thing about Essendon and Dal.

Essendon - you had your choice in 2001 and you picked Richard Cole!!!!!!

Funny old draft 2001, but I make Richard Cole as the magpies pick. Bombers never got a shot at Dal.

Saints however made some dodgy picks in hindsight and went back later for some they missed out on:

Pick 2 , Ball. Pick 5 X ( ahead of Bartel at 8) Pick 13 DalSanto but we really wanted Barry Brooks who went at 15.
Gram went at 19, Maguire 21. Charlie Gardiner went at 23 ahead of Steve Johnson at 24.
Sam Mitchel was 36 , Montagna was 37, Medhurst 56 , Schneider 60.

theres no doubting that st kildas lack of depth showed up late in september against the hawks, we will need to be aggressive during trade period in order to match teams like hawks and cats during september.

here is what i reckon we should do:

get rid of the following players:

kosi, dal santo, xavier clarke, michael rix, leigh fisher, ferguson and fiora while they still might have some worth during trade time.

if we were able to bring something close to this for the following players,

kosi- trade to richmond for a promising yound full foward, cleive hughes and their second round draft pick (no. 26)

dal santo- loving the talk about the three way trade essendon-st kilda- west coast

and trade the rest of the players for andrew lovett and late draft picks,

we will be adding a true full foward who will lead out of the square, a pacey and classy midfielder to completment hayes and ball and pace across the wing and half foward and should be able to find a young player (looks like heyne) who can make our best 22 in their first year.

bring in the likes of maguire and dempster back into the backline and mayb baker (depending on injury) and things look a little better acorss the ground.

i doubt the kerr deal with go through, but i reckon the kosi deal could be a good.

thoughts...?

I'll be so sad to see Kosi and Dal go, we've stuck by Kosi for so long through the tough times and Dal Santo's been a great player for the club apart from this year really where he's been tagged very heavily. Both Kosi and Dal will benefit tremendously from this year. Don't let them go. I wouldn't do Dal and 13 for Kerr and 20 because
1. our #13 is untouchable, we need a KPB, don't trade this pick
2. Dal Santo isn't a worse player than Kerr both of them at their best, Kerr is often suspended, no matter what people say he's gonna bring a bit of "West coke eages" to the club. No one wants that. He's 25 and nearly 26 so his best football maybe past him, Kerr's had a much worse year than Dal in my book. In similar circumstances really, both tagged very heavily and receive no protection from their team. Dal Santo's played 21 good games, not fantastic but good games, Kerr's played 15ish games and he's had problem coping with taggers just like Dal plus his injuries and suspension i say at the moment Dal Santo >> Kerr.
As for Kosi, unless an awesome offer comes along i wouldn't trade him because that would make it tougher for Roo than it already is. Not a good idea.

One thing I really wanna see is the club pay out Fiona's contract and let the bloody hack go!! Playing him on Hodge showed how soft he was, it was like Ross Lyon trying to break a brick wall by pissing on it. NOT GONNA WORK

I still think a club such as West Coast or Essendon could use Fiora if the price was acceptable , say draft pick 3076.
It would help their young guy's confidence if there were someone else on the team to blame.

saints do need the sandringham dragons listed mitch brown, very courageous Nick Riewoldt type player who always puts his all ino matter what. Kicked 8 goals in AGS VS APS match, and dominated in the Mentone Grammar games. Also 'mg07' who has talked up mitch brown, is also a 1st player for Mentone Grammar and kicked bags of 7 and 6 a few times including 5 in a quarter. Quite a handy goalsneak for his size is Marky G.

Anyone see the TAC GF?
Steele Sidebottom (Gotta love that name :D)
32 possies
11 inside 50's
14 marks
10 goals

Safe to say he wasn't going to be around our pick before tonight, but now. Will push into the top 4.

Steele stars in TAC Cup grand final

September 26, 2008 - 7:57PM

Expect to hear the name Steele Sidebottom read out early in November's AFL draft.
The Murray Bushranger midfield-forward was a clear standout in his team's 21.16(142) to 9.7(61) TAC Cup grand final thumping of the Dandenong Stingrays at Telstra Dome.
Sidebottom amassed 32 possessions, took 14 marks, pumped the ball inside the 50 zone 11 times and booted an incredible 10 goals to win the TAC Cup Grand Final Medal.
He said it was "by far" his best performance so far in his junior career, claiming he "just had one of those nights" where everything went right.
It was an irrepressible performance that equalled Amon Buchanan's 10-goal haul for the Geelong Falcons in 2000.
Buchanan also won best on ground honours that day before being picked up by Sydney at No.52 in the draft.
While Buchanan bobbed up on grand final day, Sidebottom has been a consistent performer all year.
The 17-year-old from Congupna, Shepparton, who was part of this year's AIS AFL Academy intake, won All-Australian selection this year after some impressive performances with VIC Country.
But he was in a class of his own.
A midfielder by trade, Sidebottom was at his most damaging in attack, booting two impressive first term majors.
His second involved him running away from the goals and snapping the ball over his right shoulder while under immense pressure.
In the second term, he was the supplier rather than the finisher, finding teammate and key forward Tom Rockcliff twice on the lead.
Rockcliff, who is also a hot chance to be picked up by an AFL club, enjoyed a purple patch in the second, hauling in a one-handed mark and booting three goals in as many minutes.
The key forward finished with 30 possessions, and four goals to end the year with 59 goals.
But Sidebottom was clearly the star of the show and proved to be unstoppable in the third term.
Despite standing at just 182 cm, he was taking contested marks three deep and booted five goals for the quarter.
He was clearly enjoying his time on the field, smiling from ear to ear and his ninth goal - after receiving a free for a push in the back - prompted a fist pump to a small contingent of vocal Bushrangers supporters.
Although he had not missed a goal all day, it took four attempts to kick his 10th. He admitted his misses were due to the onset of cramp.
Sidebottom is off to next month's draft camp but several clubs have already made contact with him when they visited the Bushrangers this year.
"They come to Bushie training and pull five or six aside and have a bit of an interview," he said.
"I've spoken to St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Port."
But, after the performance, he can expect more clubs wanting a piece of him at the camp.

Saints stars Nick Dal Santo and Justin Koschitzke thrown up as trade bait
Greg Denham | September 26, 2008

ST KILDA yesterday denied that contracted big-game flops, Nick Dal Santo and Justin Koschitzke, were being hawked around to rival clubs.
The highly paid pair, who are believed to each earn upwards of $450,000 a season, will remain at Moorabbin next season, unless "a massively attractive trade deal was offered", according to a senior Saints source. Rival Melbourne clubs yesterday reported that both players had been offered to them for first-round draft choices, but this was emphatically denied by St Kilda.

Interesting. No club would lie about that. Definitely true.

I have now new found respect for the coaching/development staff at Hawthorn. Mainly Alistair Clarkson for what he has brought with him since he was appointed coach. At the start of his tenure at Hawthorn he got rid of established players and loaded up on early draft picks. They were bold moves for a club drowning down the bottom of the ladder. He weeded out players that weren't going to be apart of Hawthorn's 10th premiership.

Nathan Thompson, big key forward, the hawks' only forward target. Traded for picks 10 & 26. Bo Nixon + Pick 7, traded from Collingwood to Hawthorn for Pick 10 & 37. Trading Nathan Thompson he gained an earlier 1st round selection plus a 2nd 2nd round selection. Very good move. In that draft period he picked up:

2 Jarryd Roughead - Premiership Player
5 Lance Franklin - Premiership Player
7 Jordan Lewis - Premiership Player
21 Thomas Murphy - Emergency in Premiership Team
26 Matthew Little - Fail
53 Simon Taylor - Unlucky Emergency in Premiership Team

Awesome draft for the hawks. They loaded up on early picks and have now been rewarded. :thumbsu:

2005. Another 2 pivotal senior players trade out for early picks. Jonathon Hay for Draft Pick 18. Nathan Lonie for Draft Pick 14.

14 Grant Birchall - Premiership Player
18 Max Bailey - 4th Ruck behind very talented ruckmen

Once again an extra 2 early picks. Invaluable to any team. Great move. :thumbsu:

2006. Traded out Peter Everitt. Another senior leader. Pick 33 they gained.

33 Jarred Morton - Player pushing for selection

Great result for the hawks. :thumbsu:

1 delisting in 4 years. In the same time the saints have delisted 6 with another 5 pending (Ferguson, Rix, Fiora, Gardiner, Birss). We need to ditch the smokey method, stabbing in the dark doesn't work. Our drafting personnel are now equipped with more funds than ever before hopefully it's gonna show.

Our core is awesome. If we had 2nd tier players like Hawthorns or Geelongs we'd be right up there. Bottom 4 finishes we've done. It's the hard trading that needs to be done next.

They bit the bullet and traded Nathan Thompson, Johanthon Hay, Nathan Lonie and Peter Everitt. All attracted 1st round picks except for Spider.

I hate seeing Saints traded as much as anyone but seriously, if we want to move forward we have to make these decisions. Kosi & Dal Santo are prime property that can both fetch 1st round picks. They are both struggling and possibly a change of scenery would be best for both parties.

If we do this, yes we may move back a bit, possibly miss the finals but we would be reaping the rewards in years to come. As are Hawthorn now. In a couple years time we could have the likes of Chris Yarren, Mitch Robinson, David Zaharakis, Mitch Brown running around in the GF replicating the events that happened today. Exciting young talent, potential superstars.

C'mon saints, we all so desperately want this elusive flag. Most of us aren't old enough to remember the taste of success. Our time is running out we need to do this now. :thumbsu:

I showed the hawks drafting success to highlight the effects of trading. We have the top draft picks.
We just need to make tough decisions and make a stand.

I get all fired up like this after the GF every year without fail.

^^^ i 2nd that v good post

I think your spot on. This was my thoughts exactly. After seeing Hawthorn with such a young, but so very talented list take the premiership, and more importantly, look set up to challenge for flags in many years to come.

Richmond give Saints Polo and 26 for Kosi
WCE give Kerr and 18 to Saints
Saints give 13 and 26 and 29 for Kerr
