Really do think, Suns will go after Armitage - they need a tough ball getter and stable - even though we will need him,so it would have to be a good offer
St.Kilda have gone to lengths to say he is required , but sometimes that is a strategy to get a better deal. Armo has been a great St.Kilda man , but he will be taking midfield time off guys like Gresham , Acres etc , and that is not good. Armo would fit well with Gold Coast , particularly with his leadership. Whatever happens , we need to handle it better than North and Hawthorn did.

Troy Menzel delisted by the crows. Big talent. Wonder if we'd be interested?

So.. Austin is the guy who got towelled up by Hogan on his first game back from cancer. sounds like I do not want him.

Isn't the 1st and won't be the last that Hogan beats - also spent time on Watts that day - had 10 1%ers

Austin averages just under 10 1%ers a game - to put that in to context - Rance averages 7

Assuming that 1%ers include spoils and actions that are effective and advantageous to the team - impressive stat

He is only 22 and 196cm and mobile - could be the young full back we are looking for

Port Adelaide Power defender Logan Austin hoping for AFL clash with best mate in St Kilda's Jack Steel

He has lined up against the likes of Matthew Pavlich, Travis Cloke and Drew Petrie in the early stages of his AFL career, but there is still one opponent Logan Austin can't wait to face.

His best mate and new St Kilda on-baller Jack Steele.

For so much of their lives the pair have walked an identical path - same junior club, same school, same holiday destinations, same draft class.

And while it's not a feat to hang their hats on, they both finished 2016 on the injury list - meaning they are both itching to get back out on the paddock and prove themselves.

Austin and Steele are the young guns flying the flag for Canberra in the AFL, having already carved out what could best be described as a junior dynasty at the Belconnen Magpies.

"It'd be nice to play against Jack," Austin said.

"We haven't played against each other at AFL level yet, we were meant to last year but he broke his hand the week before we played the Giants.

"Now that he's at St Kilda, I know he's enjoying it there. It'd be good to play against him.

"I'm used to doing it alongside him in juniors and stuff like that, but it'd be pretty surreal to play against him at either Adelaide Oval or in Melbourne.

"But that's a long way away, I'm just trying to get some form back and crack into the AFL side as quick as I can."

Should all go to plan the pair will play against each other in round 19 at Adelaide Oval - meaning they have to wait until July 29.

Canberra's five-year AFL draft drought was broken by the two best mates in 2014, who had been inseparable since they were 11 years old.

Austin and Steele were both Greater Western Sydney academy products, but the former was overlooked by the Giants and soon found himself on a plane to Adelaide.

Steele was taken by GWS and played 17 games in two years, but was starved of opportunity and has linked up with another Canberra product in Josh Bruce at St Kilda this season.

Bruce joined St Kilda's leadership group this season, following in the footsteps of Marist College export and Giants co-captain Phil Davis.

Austin says getting a taste of playing at the highest level was "pretty crucial" after he broke into the senior side for a clash with Collingwood at the Melbourne Cricket Ground midway through the year.

"When you first get to an AFL club you just want to earn respect," Austin said.

"Getting that taste of AFL footy, I know what to expect now and I know what areas of the game I need to improve on and what areas I'm doing well at. It kind of helps you out, getting that taste for it."

Austin's pre-season has been hampered after finishing the final game of the 2016 season with an ankle fracture which left him in need of surgery.

"If there was a good time to get an injury it's in the last game of the year," Austin said.

"I was very happy that I got to play 11 games at the end of the year and got the taste for what AFL footy is like."

Dunno what that means either man.

It’s the base after second. Just before home. This base is by invitation only.

I'd be happy to offer picks 8 & 43 for Fiorini & pick 22
If we could fantastic result..
Then swap 7 & 22 for pick 3, with the Blues chasing 2nd rd pick/s to trade for Kennedy & co..

he was pick 20 in the draft and after 2 years in the system, they would most probably want a lot higher for him , the problem is the new coach will most probably single him out as one of the future stars of the team and try his best to keep him.

We can push the fact, that we're one of the few stable clubs in recent years!
Richo's rapport with younger players is one of his major strengths..
The development of Moorabbin..
A tight knit club building a side, that's committed to playing finals for many years starting in 2018..

What about keeping 7 draft Bonar potentially the best talent in the draft & keeping 8 draft OBrien
who is elite Outside player with deadly left foot.

Rather than helping other clubs and trade players

Am i the only one that doesn't want to trade our two picks for one a couple places earlier. With most of the draftees that are rated as going earlier then our picks nearly all inside mids we have the perfect chance to pick the best players for our need. Stephenson/Higgins and Coffield/Naughton maybe Bonar over Dow LDU or Rayner for me.
And what is Fiorini worth? Is a straight swap for Armo fair?

Nope on the latter.

But agree on your upgrade point. There is a chance one of Cerra or Stephenson get there, if not then two of Coffield, Bonar, LOB, Brayshaw etc

Im with you Bakesy,
Massive chance Cerra falls to 7 , i would be over the moon with him .
If he doesnt then Stephenson or Brander fall to 7 . Not sure about Bonar and thats only because i haven't seen anything of him , rather go with Higgins at pick 8 , love his skills , his hitting the score board ability and tackles like a junk yard dog . Two kids ready to play round 1.

They all sound great now but around 5 of the top at least won't be anything more than good honest triers. Bet we have said the same thing every time we have a top 10 pick.

Yep , Pat Cripps/ Nat Fyfe and many others were apparently not good enough for a top 10 pick . Club recruiters wouldnt have a clue what goes on in a kids mind , physically the kid mite test well but does he have a footy brain , natural skill set. Most of the hard work with a kid is once he gets to a club and starts his personal program set by the development staff.
I would hate to be a r ecruitment boss of a club because realistically, its lucky dip or its a " i feel good about this kid "

Dunno why but with all the talk of Bonar being the one with the highest ceiling it feels like we are in a position to take a “risk” on him if we keep two top 10 picks.

Maybe I’m pattern matching to bontempelli too much (considered a little bit of a stretch at 4 but people forcefully claiming his potential) but two picks gives us a chance to go one “safe” one chance.
