my thoughts :

Bruce - is liked by everyone , in a dark period he was a shining light for us not unlike a Jason Heatly who for a period of time was a fan favorite but the fact is he is a solid player for us but he isnt the guy you can build the team around ... Max King is ... im sad to see him go but i dont see him as and out really hurting us all that much other than it helps the dogs in a big way .

Acres - not going to deny im a huge fan of him but it is at that point where we dont really have a lock spot for him .. i dont want to toss him out for junk picks but im fairly content that trading him out doesnt hurt us long term especially with him going to Freo ...

Steven - we all need to move on from him .. his career at St Kilda is done so lets just say thanks for the memories and let him go .. he might get a shot at winning a flag with Geelong (i dont like his chances) ...

Hill - come round 10 when Hill is locked as our top 3 players we wont give two hoots what we gave up for him

With the exception of Howard possibly none of the trades will lead to that. Hill and Hanners maybe will lift us up a few spots but may not be around when we are competing

I didn’t think my post was so obscure -
It’s the flow-on effect.
We get these players, they help us to improve and hopefully get to finals.
That makes us more attractive to future good / great players etc

For a club to have missed out on finals for 9 years to be able to get 5 requests (immaterial whether it’s the money or not) is pretty good going I would think.

All I know is, something different needed to happen, because just picking up a couple of new players in the draft this year wasn’t going to make a big difference.

As I said, I don’t care what the reason.

Hill and Jones wanted back to Melbourne, could have requested any club, Butler just wanted a game, plenty clubs after Howard...I don’t care.
Each of those has something to improve us and in the media it’s just St.Kilda - destination club.

Maybe it helps more players in the next year or two request us because of success, not just money. It all builds momentum. It has to start somewhere.
All St Kilda supporters should be salivating we have brought in good players and players that where needed - but there are always people who knock it.

Honestly where would Acres play next year with Hill & Jones coming in? We have Billings on one wing, hopefully going half forward at times which would leave Hill & Jones on the wings, who both have pace which is what we have been SCREAMING out for the last couple of years. Clark has gone past him for a midfield spot, as hopefully Hanners does if he can stay injury free. Future 3rd round pick for a fringe player on decent coin? I'll take it everyday of the week.

Tom Browne saying Sydney might give 5+9+32 (Jones) for Daniher. That would be horrendous list management from a club that is normally so sensible. Wouldn’t surprise me if each of Papley, Jones and p5 have better careers that Daniher from this point.
Dodoro is a massive campaigner but if he pulls this off this would be the greatest steal in trade history.
Can’t help but respect him and his craft for shithousery

People complains about Bruce leaving without a replacement, especially after Ben King re-signed with the Suns.

But I think to support/slowly integrate Max King, we might be putting Battle forward e.g. playing Bruce's role..
Battle is a better kick, can run all day and has better forward craft in general..

The reason Bruce is not rated highly is because he is seen as a hard working forward only who has peaked, not a star forward or even a forward with star potential (Daniher). Think Battle would turn out to be a better forward than Bruce.

This leaves Howard; Brown; Carlise; Austin; Joyce; Claverino and Marsh as key backs, although Claverino and Marsh maybe intercepting backs. Brown should be kept on for another year for insurance.

On the flip side if Daniher gets injury free and returns to kick 60 goals a year then sydney will be stoked. he is only 26, we all seem to have faith when bring in Freeman, Hannebery & even Bytel so why wouldn't Sydney?

Think Jones will play in the guts to be honest.. either Hind or Savage can move to a wing.. I rather see Hind on the half back to be honest (play like Saad/Johanneson role).. Billings on a half forward.. and help out in the midfield at times

This is spot on.

At the end of this trade period we need to view the trades as an entire package, rather than pick for pick.

Let’s also remember the intangibles, 5 players requested to come to us. No matter their reason for doing it, they requested US. Players that will improve us on every line. That’s certainly unprecedented in our history.

That shows they believe in the direction we are heading and the bonus of the positive publicity that comes with this is something that cannot be underestimated. Together with the young talent we already have we’re building momentum for a sustained era of finals. What we had quite clearly wasn’t working, so this is the change we needed to have.

We are showing a more ruthless edge, and there will be “casualties” along the way, which is hard as we all have players we have a soft spot for, but at the end of the day we want success, and every success requires sacrifice.

I want a flag.
**** going through the entire fifteen pages of bullshit, this post is all I need to quote.

You have hit the nail on the head.

At the end of the day, if we've gotten all five players to ur club and only parted with 6, second round 2020 and some players that give us salary cap space, that's a massive win.

Like I've mentioned many times, it's not even about the actual players and whether they are good or not - let 2020 saints worry about that. At this point, the important thing is five players nominated us as their preferred destination and if we get all five to the club that speaks volumes about our club.

Onwards and upwards fellow sainters. Let's get these deals done and looking forward to a cracking 2020!

I have no doubt that Battle will be just as good forward as he was back. A forward line of King, Battle, Membrey and Ryder/Marshall with the best performing smalls (Buttler/Parker/Lonie/Long/Kent) has the potential to be our most potent offence since the Riewoldt/Milne era (and even then, we were always crying out for a competent second tall).

Listening to Ryder talk, what i got out of it is connections throughout the club. This has got me thinking that we really need to replace assistant coaches on a semi regular basis (unless they are outstanding) to attract players from other clubs. Lade has received a massive rap from a fair few boys Howard/Ryder and also having mates Steele/Austin as well helps. We have been far to stale in assistant coaches over the last 9 years. Fresh/New blood is always needed to bring in IP and also those connections that they create with other players.

I’m hoping we are trying to get the Jones and Hill deals done without needing the Bruce deal to go through.

We can then put pressure on the dogs to stump up an overs trade from Bruce.

Something like -
Acres and 10 for Hill
Future 2nd for Jones
Bruce for 13 and later picks.

Maybe looked at 13 and 2020 1st for a Crouch and a second back.

If we can get Jones without the Bruce trade, then we have no pressure at all. We can sit back and wait for the dogs to come to the party or not.

They would of earmarked players who would of been excess next year and having Hunter Clark , Jones , Bytel , Coffield , Sinclair , Hill , Savage --- Acres could well of spent a lot of time at Sandringham.

Yep, see my earlier post (which that was in reply to). I think by end of next year there could be up to ten midfielders ahead of Acres (without him improving significantly). Trading now seems quite prudent in that context.

How is this "Trade Talk"?

What a ****ing joke - who gives a shit. give us news you w***ers.

How good is it having a group of indigenous players now. Ryder, Hill, Fresh, Long, Parker and Young

Remember when Nick Winmar was our only one?

I don't like generalising based on race, but there have been way too many indigenous players talk about how much they enjoy being around each other for there not be some sort of connection.

Hopefully this helps us attract more talent in the future and might give us more confidence in taking some riskier selections.

There was a Bulldogs fan on their board pretending he had a source that told him Gallagher, Lethlean and Gallagher had all gone and done separate deals to get all these players. He then said that they had stuffed up and wouldn't be able to get them all through the door.

I got banned for suggesting he made that up.

How ironic that it now looks as though they won't be able to get the Keath deal done.

I must admit, I love the fact that we have so many indigenous players in our team now - great to see us embracing cultural diversity - for years all we had was Winmar and then the Clarke brothers.

The AFL yet again has no foresight and just gets carried away with short term gain.

Of course everyone will be following it between 3-7 30 today and the AFL will love the saturation but it has no feel for the fans' mood. I think the general footy public has found this trade period particularly boring and frustrating. Everyone is already invested so they have continued to live and breathe it each day but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a drop off next year.

To be fair, he said that Saints will have a hard time getting it all done. Never said that they won't get done

Adelaide being absolute w***ers. Seems like the doggies and Saints will work out a deal where both parties are happy (no stand off tatics etc)
